Most cabinet members only stick around for one term (or less). Clinton replaced Warren Christopher with Madeleine Albright. See wikipedia for historical Secretaries of State.

Except that's not true. It IS true in the large cities, but not rural areas (the majority of the landmass). There's actually a bit of a culture war going on in China where the rural areas are feeling quite left out of all this advancement.
When I voted in Libertarian against Clinton, my vote, literally, wasn't counted or reported for three weeks. On election night, %Republican + %Democrat always magically totals 100%.
They call this practice "normalizing". I call it disenfranchising.
Then the service provider in the US dries up and forces you to register with them every 3 months with looming promises of having to pay for the right to access it.
...
It always works and is worth the $12.95 a month...
So you traded the possibility of sometime in the future *maybe* having to pay a monthly fee for the comfort of a guaranteed monthly fee.
Plus, Replay may sometime in the future raise rates or even go out of business. Or, like Tivo, decide to delete functionality.
Anyway, BYO is ok for some and not ok for others. But this article is the perfect example of the advantage of BYO vs. Tivo... Tivo just took something away from you.
I thought the Digital Millenium COPYRIGHT Act dealt with Copyright infringement, not Trademark violations. So is CNN claiming that they actually wrote the parody story?
I don't think the DMCA gives them any take-down rights over Trademark disputes.
As I said in my other reply, the courts have already decided that the MPAA can *not* limit your right time shift. Otherwise, they would have long ago declared that all broadcasts (or at least all cable) were simply licensed.
The Supreme Court has already found that time-shifting is fair use and no amount of "license" agreements have changed this fundamental limit of copyright.
There is no valid contract that says that I am not allowed to tape a PPV movie. This was settled in the Sony case. Consumers have an absolute legal right to time shift.
A former co-worker was telling us about some of her tutoring experiences. She was helping some high school kids with the concept of estimation. She looked at the ceiling and said you could estimate that it was about 10 feet high. She told them that "the great thing about estimation is that it doesn't have to be the 'right' answer."
So she pointed a car parked nearby and asked one of the students how far he thought the car was. His reply, "50 gallons."
Incredulous, she said that his answer didn't make sense.
"But that's the great thing about estimation! It doesn't have to be right!"
SCO's response includes the fact that they are still contesting Novell's copyright registration. What they fail to mention is that Novell's contractual right to waive IBM's contractual obligation to SCO is part of Novell's contract with SCO and has *nothing* to do with the disputed copyright claims.
I stopped locking the doors on my convertible after some cut the top to get in. Nevertheless, someone still broke the quarter glass to break in once even though the door was unlocked.
Last time I voted for a Libertarian Presidential candidate, my vote was literally not counted for several weeks. On election night, only the Demopublicans were counted, and the perecentages were "normalized" so that they totaled 100%. Two weeks later, they announced the real percentages of all the candidates.
I think Giuliani skit on SNL was the best solution. It was a Public Service Announcement claiming that rather than painting over graffiti tags, they would simply stencil "sucks" after the taggers name. For repeat offenders, they would use a professional artist and match the style.
I do essentially what you're asking, but inside my local net. One machine has a TV card and does all the recording. I also have a MythTV client on a laptop with a wireless card that can be used to watch anywhere (including "Live TV").
I have a tuner card on a desktop server. It records off satellite using an Actisys IR dongle to change channels.
With MythTV, you don't need a tuner card to be a client, so the server is the only thing plugged in. My wireless laptop can watch anywhere I can get a signal.
Additionally, one can transcode the MythTV recording (without commercials) onto a VCD, so I can still watch on a traditional TV if I want.
From the conference call, it seems that the EV1 revenue won't start coming in until Q3. They still say it's in the "6 figures," but less than $250K and will be spread over several quarters.
"Brain and brain! What is brain!"

My favorite quote from the film Slacker:
"To withdraw in disgust is not the same as apathy."

Slashdot is doing a great job covering both sides of this election: both Pro-Kerry and Anti-Bush.

When you rent a movie, you have taken one physical copy out of circulation. That's not the case if you tape a PPV movie/event.

I was wondering more about performers who covered the song and paid royalties for the right to do so.
What happens to people who paid royalties since then. Can they sue to get their fees back, or are they SOL?
The Treo 600 is a palm-based phone, so you should be able to install CJK OS onto it. Caveat: I haven't tried this.

Man, I'm glad I live in the 'burbs now.
This exploit attacks a client as it conencts to a server. Seeing ssh chatter in your logs means someone is trying to exploit your server.
Q: How long does a pilot have to fix a fatal exception error?
A: The rest of his life.

If voting changed anything, they'd outlaw it.
