How about WMD-enabled RISK. Have a new card that forces another player to begin the search for WMD. Every country they have a single army in becomes immobilized - they're busy defending themselves against the citizens of that country. Any time you have more than one army, at least one is under attack by the citizens, while the remainder are paralyzed by their search for WMD. This lasts for 20 turns, or until a reelection.

Just don't let yourself get caught up in the consumerism (such as evidenced in the Matrix DVD article - all the whiners talking about how they "have to buy" the new DVD now that its a "special edition" and how they were screwed by buying the original one before) and marketing and you'll do fine.

Anyways, rent's around a grand a month, utilities (electricity, water, garbage, sewer) top $150 or so, cable + cable internet $100 or so, liability insurance ~$70 (which is high, but I'm still young), $500 food (I eat out a lot :)), and a few hundred for gas or other discretionary stuff, and you're still around $25K before taxes.

(And I didn't mean to suggest that all of our hires made that or less, I just meant to suggest that most people can live incredibly well on less than $50K a year. I'm speaking from personal experience, from living in the Bay Area for some years and Seattle for other years).

The way it is now is nearly pure competition. If you're good, and with a bit of luck, you'll get the expired domain. There is actual competition over getting the domains.

The way Verisign..excuse me ICANN (little difference) wants it, only Verisign can reserve domain names. Other companies can resell Verisign's reservation system for "only" $24-$28/year.

This matches Verisign's past work, basically killing, neutering and then buying (essentially) ICANN so they remained the one source for .com/.net/etc. It's anti-competitive and it's wrong, and Internet users should be applauding the suit, IMO.

The reason the word "monopolistic" is exactly correct is that Verisign themselves will be collecting $24-$28/year from the other registrars to provide this service. It's not like ICANN, or a non-profit, is getting the fee to run this database "for the greater good".

But as we all know (or we all should know) ICANN is firmly in Verisign's pocket - look at the $6/year fee they get for every .com/.net/etc domain registered by anyone, for a single database row.
