Matrix Reloaded on DVD Before Revolutions
SycloneFX noted that the Matrix Reloaded will be
available
on DVD on Oct 14, just 3 weeks before the release of Revolutions. This is noteworthy because normally there are large time spans between releases of DVDs and Sequels (although LotR had a special edition released only a few weeks before TTT).
What timing - sounds like October will be "all Matrix, all the time." I think I'll have to load up on those red-hot cinnamon candies that look like the "red pill." Any Agent Smiths or Neo's that show up at my door on Halloween can head right back to their dreamworld...
Stop by my site where I write about ERP systems & more
I'm still trying to figure out the first one.
This was the plan all along. The reason why the film is coming out at this time is because this is the earliest they could release it. The said that they were doing this because the cliff-hanger at the end of the second movie was so much that they would be killed if they waited the normal amount of time to release the sequel.

I could've sworn I was watching a DVD quality version a couple days before it came out. This must be some sort of typo.
From the article:
While both the VHS and DVD will be priced for sale to consumers, the DVD includes several bonus features that should boost sales, such as a behind-the-scenes look at how the freeway chase scene was crafted and shot and the humorous parody of "The Matrix Reloaded" that was featured on the 2003 MTV Movie Awards.
The extra content, in this case anyway, might well be worth the investment in the DVD. Any word on "Easter Eggs" on this one like there was in the original??
Be excellent to each other. And... PARTY ON, DUDES!
dvd? is that like some fancy new divx format?
Now I can watch that rave/orgy in all its home-theatre glory. With slow-motion and freeze-frames, I'll bet I can get a good estimate of the true volume of saliva shown on screen.
Even better, I can loop it and leave it on 24/7. I'm sure everyone in the apartment will love it!

That's better than then Animatrix - which was released on DVD a few weeks after Matrix Reloaded came out in the UK.
Soon they will no longer just come in red and blue pills, but a variety of fruity flavors! But seriously, it's amazing how carefully people market products these days. They've got the video game tie-in (which sold well despite poor reviews and saved the publisher), the online game in the works, comics, and the obligitory action figures.
...does the Matrix contain any SCO code ??
when you can download prematurely via bit torrent?
Personally, I'm waiting for the fourth Matrix movie, "The Domimatrix." It stars a whip-wielding Carrie Ann Moss. She already has the leather part down. I figure that movie would make more sense than "Matrix Reloaded," and would also be more entertaining.
"We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." - Oscar Wilde
I can't imagine why they wouldn't come out with it before Revolutions. There has to be some people who missed it in the theater, and others will want to refresh their memory (or remember where they were left hanging...)
And with the anonymous Kazaa Lite/++ up, that's just enough time for me to download a divx rip without anyone knowing! Whoops, did i post that?! /runs
j/k MPAA, it's meant to be modded Funny, not Informative!
Does this strike anybody as disgusting, or odd.
First off, I understand why them did the two movies together, to cut costs.
But now it just seems like conveyor belted movies, no more "art"
Which is what I thought film was supposed to be, an art. I don't believe in art you can just pump out on a regular basis (With massive advertising campaigns)
Hollywood has doing this for a while, so they'll probably turn into something like the RIAA sueing DivX folks after they fail to reap massive returns on bad movies.
Error 407 - No creative sig found
This makes perfect sense. Because Reloaded will probably be all but out of the theaters by the time Revolutions comes out. Now people (not ./ users, obviously) who want to watch Reloaded to brush themselves up on the story have to go buy/rent the DVD.
I can hear the cash registers right now...
It'll just be made out of silly putty, with a small hair-less child saying "There is no DVD" as it flops in your hand...to which you'll respond "Woah"
What is the Matrix?
Maybe if I watch the first two at home, then that same day go watch the third one at the movies, it will all make sense.
Probably not, but who cares?
Its nice to see few people move away from the hard and fast rules that the entertainment industry lives by.

This is more noteworthy because the DVD is being released less than 6 months after the movie first hit the theaters. That's insanely fast. Of course, so is releasing the next movie in the series without a gap of a at least a year.
But, as the editor pointed out, movies in the LotR series have had DVD releases just prior to the theatrical release of the next film.
I was expecting them to do this all along for marketing purposes. It doesn't take a lot to figure out that a fast selling DVD will boost the market for any sequels. The first Matrix movie is like this, in fact. The movie didn't gross that much at the theaters when you compare it to the DVD sales. I don't have exact numbers, but a quick Google search should bring them up. Obviously the DVD sales pushed the huge release of Reloaded in the theaters. If it worked once for them, why wouldn't they try it again?
You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life. --Winston Churchill
for those who haven't watched the movie in theatre yet. After explaining the "to be continued" ending to a friend, he mentioned he wouldn't be watching the movie in theatre.
I was surprised, and wondered if he would really be turned off watching the movie entirely because of the ending - however his plan is to get the DVD, and watch it the day before Revolutions.
Sounds like a good deal for those who haven't seen "Reloaded" yet, as you can see both movies at about the same time if you grab the DVD.
Seems like the logical thing to do. Release a DVD of the last movie, getting the Matrix franchise back in people's minds. People can watch Reloaded to refresh their memories on the plot so far before going to see Revolutions. A buzz builds in anticipation of the upcoming theatrical release.
It's just "strategized marketechture" at work.
Its plain stupid to be on a rush and go get the movies in separated DVDs, you'll end with less features, needing to sale them on E-Bay just to buy the final-special-edition.
A shame...

Was that my choice or was I destined to see it last night? I'm glad I didn't have to wait too long to get my answer.
It was a great movie. I'm usually a harsh critic, but this movie I liked and the action scenes were simply awesome. I even liked all the "choice vs destiny" talk although they did lay it on too thick at some times.

I'm sure they are a bit embarrassed with Finding Nemo (5/30 release) handing them their lunch to the tune of $18,000,000 after being in theaters for 2 fewer weeks (MR 5/15 release).

Movie studios like to tie in the DVD release with something else, since it ramps up the hype for both things. So the DVD for The Phantom Menace came out not long before Attack of the Clones in the theater; the DVD for Harry Potter and the [Philosopher's|Sorceror's] Stone not long before the second Harry Potter movie.
Keep the hype up, and you'll sell more of both. And with the short release cycles of movies these days (also intended to keep the hype up...), you can release a movie, release the DVD while people are still thinking about the movie, so increase sales, and then release the next movie while they're still geeked on having just watched the DVD.

In about a year from now, they're most likely going to release a box set, probably 6 discs (Matrix, Reloaded, Revolutions, Revisited, another bonus disc, and Animatrix). I'm waiting for this before I purchase the DVDs seperately.
I have seen Reloaded 3 times in theatres, 4 times in DiVX, converted it to VCD (3 viewings), watched the highrez trailer like 30 times ... now I am going to buy the DVD so I can watch it some more.

.. kind of disturbing really ...
I think I have seen the original Matrix at least 20 times in various formats including 3 times in the theatre, 6 times on DVD (Which I purchased twice - lost it once), 6 times on VCD (before the DVD came out), 3 times on DiVX (before the DVD as well), and 2 times on TV
I have seen the Animatrix 3 times in its entirety on DVD, 2 times on DiVX (before the DVD), watched the online episodes about 4 times each
And I don't even know how many 'special features / the making of
Almost 50 viewings
This is noteworthy because normally there are large time spans between releases of DVDs and Sequels
;)
Yes, well there are usually larger time spans between theater releases as well. Instead of the normal 2-3 year span, we're seeing 6-8 months. That'll affect the DVD/sequel time-span ratio

I am the Alpha and the Omega-3
I hope they are not sacrificing extra features for the sake of releasing this dvd early.
I wonder if my cinema will do something similar to what it did when reloaded came out, both the original and reloaded showing with a 30min gap inbetween.
Although I doubt my arse can take almost six hours sitting down, even if I will be watching three of the greatest movies in a row...
Just kidding. : )
It's only funny until someone gets hurt. Then, it's hilarious.
Let's see. Boycott the MPAA and the RIAA! And as someone else suggested in a recent thread a few days ago, boycott books as well. If you don't want to support something, that's all fine and dandy, but you have to pick your battles. If you start or join too many, you wind up injuring yourself, and not the intended party(ies).
There's only so much that geeks enjoy. Outside of computer hobbies such as programming and gaming, books, movies, and music make up the vast majority of down time for the average geek. What do we do when we decide to boycott all of them? Our down time will start to seem like work and become down-right depressing, because you're straining yourself to find something to do, when there's something you enjoy but you're forcing yourself not to.
For instance, I boycott McDonald's and the Olive Garden. As to why, I won't get into that. But if I decide to boycott all fast-food chains and restaurants altogether, I'm severely limiting myself as to what I can eat if I'm not at home, and even limiting myself when I am home, if everyone else feels like ordering out and such. I wouldn't be able to partake in dinner with my family and friends, which is considered by many to be a bonding experience. Why hurt me and hurt others and not eat and share dinner with my family and friends at the four star Chinese restaurant down the street, just because I don't like McDonald's and the Olive Garden?

Neo has something to do with the Matrix.
For those who are waiting for the DVD before seeing the movie, did I mention SPOILER WARNING?
The "guy on the table right across from Neo" is Smith...now, whether that makes the cliff-hanger better or not, I don't know, but since nobody in their right mind would describe the awesome Agent Smith as "the guy on the table right across from Neo", I figured you might actually not be a troll, and might actually not have realized that.
Warning: Opinions known to be heavily biased.
It's available in october on DVD? Funny It's been available at my house on DVD for a month. :)
What indications led you to believe that film was supposed to be an art? Was it the graceful nuances in the the last martin lawrence fish-out-of-water cop-medy? Was it the ferociously artistic roaring engines in the fast and the furious? Was it the sublime metaphorical connotations of Swim Fan? Was it the persuasively muted performance of Vin Diesel that was nothing short of breathtaking in XXX? Did Arnold Schwartzenegger, oft reputed to be the Michaelangelo of that artistic Action genre, stand as though he were David whilst he held a coffin in one hand and a shotgun in the other in Terminator 3? Did Old School really get you thinking? Perhaps the subtext of the Legally Blonde series really resonated with the unsatisfied yearnings of the work-a-day populace.
This means I can skip past the "slow zoom out from Keanu Reeves's ass" scene. Not to mention the part where Morpheus is speaking to the crowd at Zion and trying to be all tough and authoritative with his massive gut hanging out.
Really, any version of the movie where I can skip over the entire Zion sequence will instantly make this movie 10 times better.
I'm waiting this one out. I bought the first Matrix DVD (because I didn't know there would be a sequel). I've been a "victim" too many times of the "release DVD. buy DVD. release Special Edition DVD with special features and extra scenes. buy DVD. release boxed set of all the series on DVD. Buy set. Release special edition boxed set of all series on DVD. ARGH! buy new set." I think my roomate easily spent $200 just on the Star Wars DVD's.
If you were me, you'd be good lookin'. - six string samurai
Resist your urges to buy this DVD! You know that they're going to release a trilogy box set deal after the third movie and that you're going to want that as well...
willpower...fading...must...not...buy...
Well, don't forget that Nemo has the advantage of being rated G. The Matrix has a limited audience whereas Nemo appeals to all ages.
The best analysis would be against a similarly rated movie.
I really like to watch an original movie just before the sequel, if possible.
Also, a new and diabolical tactic they are using now is to include different special features on different DVD sets - so the extras here (which look to be pretty good) may well not even be on the Special Ultimate Uranium Edition, or The Matrix Thoughtfully Reconsidered.
Translation: I'm buying the DVD.

This is noteworthy
Not really.
because normally there are large time spans between releases of DVDs and Sequels (although LotR had a special edition released only a few weeks before TTT).
For something to be noteworthy people have to care about it. Does anyone really care that a release date is slightly earlier than the mean? Especially for a so-so movie?
You know, of course, that the major reason to release now is to get people to buy it so they can watch it right before Revolutions. Then, when everyone has bought it, they'll release the "Ultra Cool Platinum Titanium Plutonium Whiz-Bang Edition" of the entire trilogy in a special collector's case with 16 different documentaries per film and 4 hours of deleted scenes and bloopers, forcing everyone to spend yet more money on the same films.
I picked up a copy of Reloaded on DVD over a month ago... in Seoul....what's with this October noise :)
"collect all 5 to create super-mega-man!"
This seems like a pretty half-assed DVD to me. We all know the term "Special Edition" has no meaning anymore, but it's pretty obvious they've rushed this out to coincide with the release of Revolutions.
Take a good look at those "bonus features." It's a few featurettes, the kind of vapid press release crap you see on HBO before the movie's released. No commentary. No deleted scenes. Why do they need a second disc for this?
There's already talk of a genuine special edition (scroll to the bottom of the article), after the Wachowskis are done with the Revolutions hoopla. If you're not willing to buy a movie twice, you're going to be kicking yourself later.
I've been screwed too often by The Man to buy a first release of anything anymore. Anyone know when the really loaded Reloaded version is due out?
I wish I didn't, but my brother forced it on me. Oh, do we mean "available through authorised channels of distribution"? Then in that case, I don't. There is no screener.
If you were blocking sigs, you wouldn't have to read this.
Why the hell does yours get rated 2? Oh well. Ratings are for suckers.
But what you just said is exactly why the MPAA and the RIAA don't have a problem keeping afloat when they piss off nerds like us. Some of the more educated will boycott Britney Spears, or Eminem, as protest against what the RIAA is doing (and producing). Yes, fine, but then they go out and listen to an RIAA Sponsored Local Band Concert (Yes, guys, I'm sorry to say but the RIAA does fund local bands, especially non-profit bands [I don't mean indy rock crap by the way]). Or they buy some older music, which still goes back to the RIAA.
I just don't see why Slashdotters even try to pretend to be so above everybody else when it comes to knowledge on the RIAA and MPAA, especially when they post things like this on the main page. It's a limp wristed protest, and nobody will take us seriously. We make no sacrifice.
Someone remind me... do we hate the MPAA today, or what?
It is just a deja vu, It happens when they change something...
You can't handle the truth.

Shouldn't that be T3?
--
This is noteworthy because normally there are large time spans between releases of DVDs and Sequels (although LotR had a special edition released only a few weeks before TTT).
Thankfully they're doing the same thing this time with an awesome 4-disc set for the TTT as well (just a month before Return of the King hits).
I guess we only like to hear the boycott *AA chant when it pertains to Britney Spears boy bands and the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.
Way to stand up for what you believe in slashdotters!
YAY!
pretty much expected the release of the Matrix Reloaded DVD before the theatrical release of the third installment - makes sense for marking and boosting sales of the second DVD for those returning to the cinema to watch the third installment.
Also will take advantage of the Cristmas gift season - although I would still expect numerous returns after Christmas since some people may get multiple copies or will have bought themselves a copy.
I was wondering when they'd figure this one out. I mean really, is it that much a brain surgery to guess that releasing the DVD just as the movie ticket sales drop would be a good idea? Wait the normal length of time between release and media and people say "Oh I gotta get this on DVD!" and then forget. Put the video out after the theatre experience is still somewhat fresh in their memory and maybe you get more sales? I'd be surprised if more movies don't do this. Am I missing something here?
BTW, I'm not purchasing this DVD. Why collect media at all anymore? I have only one answer to this. Transport of large amounts is still cheaper and faster by foot. Other than that, Net becoming fast ubiquitous, I think I'll make the leap and commit to media-less entertainment.

If you sit through all the closing credits on Matrix Reloaded, there is a small preview of Matrix Revolutions.
Different audience sizes = different market potential.
Matrix Reloaded is rated R: Must be over 17. This limits the potential audience. Matrix Reloaded is one of the highest grossing R-rated movies of all time.
Finding Nemo is rated G...

I know several theaters were showing The Matrix right before Matrix Reloaded came out, I wonder if anyone will do a double-feature or triple-feature, show Matrix 2/3 in one sitting. You definitely need an intermission in the middle (although I guess the 9 minutes worth of credits would work), lest your bladder burst. But that would be a blast.

It's nice to see these production companies caring about their fan base. This will bring them their money while at the same time satisfying the demand for the movies on DVD. It would be nice if some of the greedier people *cough*George Lucas*cough* would get with this trend and appreciate their fans.

Up here in the Great White North, the Canadian Value of Music Coalition (a group of music industry types) is running a series of ads. The ads promote the idea that buying music helps make more music. (Check out their site for more info (Warning: flash intensive site)). So, by extension, buying DVDs provides money to produce more movies.
Personally, I'd like to see the RIAA, and the MPAA take this sort of stance, rather than the "load the thing up with content protection and prosecute people" tack that they are using.

Or did the Wachowski brothers lose about a thousand geek points by not naming their sequels something like "Matrix Product" and "Matrix Inverse"?
I live in LA and the other day on the bus I saw a young man carrying a couple of DVDs. Being curious I read the titles. One of them was Matrix Reloaded. I was very surprised.
I mentioned this to a friend of mine and he tells me they have already been mastered and dupped.
As a side note someone else I know has a copy on VCD in english and the "translated english" subtitles are very very humerous.

The fact the DVD's coming out so fast isn't surprising at all. Movies nowadays are edited digitally anyway, and are therefore already in a format ideal for mastering to DVD. The special content was produced while the film was being made anyway with the intent to be on the DVDs. There's no additional footage or anything like the Lord of the Rings releases, which even had additional score for new portions. Mastering and manufacturing are the longest part of the process in this case, since the content's all there.

If you have a movie that ends abruptly, then the main thing that's going to stick in peoples' minds after they get out of the theatre is "Oh God.. I can't want to see the next one.." NOT "I can't wait to see that again." That's why Reloaded fell from first place so quickly. It's not that people didn't like it, but that, apart from the geeks who want to analyze every bit of the movie, nobody is going to go see a movie that leaves them high and dry again and again.
I predict Revolutions is going to dominate the box offices at the end of this year, with people going to see it over and over, because it (should) have a satisfying ending. And, if the studios are smart, they'll make sure to put the whole Matrix+Reloaded+Revolutions 6 hour epic out in limited release in theatres.
I don't think anyone was suggesting this was some kind of altruistic plan, where they were going to lose millions of dollars but get it out for the good of the fans.
Anything in business is (hopefully) strategized. It's just nice to see a business realize that it can do something a bit different than usual and either make the same revenue while pleasing fans, or perhaps make extra revenue.
Nothing wrong with that.
Cheers

Find a dollar theater or drive-in in your area - they are generally a good way to catch films months after the initial theater release. I am sure Reloaded will still be showing somewhere come October.... Currently it is showing at the IMAX.
It had to be said.

It's not stupid to buy this DVD if it allows you to watch the first and second movie just before the third one comes out. I don't have an eidetic memory, so don't you think my enjoyment of the third movie would be heightened if I can have the previous one fresh in my mind when I see it?
What I think is stupid is to call other people stupid. You know nothing about me. My wants, desires, needs. My likes and dislikes. My IQ. My common sense. Calling me stupid is an insult to stupid people. Or something.
Lets take Cynikal's post:
...the red pill was to "wake up" into the real world...
...the blue one was to go back to the dream world...
And then the quote from Morpheus:
You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.
...Both meaning you want to exit the matrix. Staying in wonderland is a bit misleading, as it implies the made-up world that is the matrix, but I believe the Wachowski brothers did that intentionally. Morpheus can only show "how deep the rabbit hole goes" if neo steps out of the matrix. The next comparison should cement this point.
Cynikal's post:
And the quote from Morpheus:
You take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe.
Once again, a bit misleading, since the story ending implies leaving the matrix. However, you can only believe whatever you want to believe if you're still in the matrix.
The clincher is that Neo swallows the red pill in order to exit the matrix.
Man, I wouldn't buy that DVD if it came with a free hummer from the porn star of my choice!
What's the director's commentary gonna be like?

This is not noteworthy, nor should it have even been posted. (Just my opinion.) (It's just like my post--my post is pointless too, but I'm bored.)
I find it amusing that Slashdot has chosen the two pills as the symbol for The Matrix, thereby accentuating the drug-taking aspect of the movie above all others.
Furry cows moo and decompress.
I boycott McDonalds too - because their food sucks. Unfortunately, I still like going to Boston Market (they still exist, at least out here in the Boston area). Boston Market has some of the highest-quality fast food you can get. But it turns out they're owned by McDonalds. D'oh!
I also "boycott" the RIAA by not liking any of the current crap out there. I've bought something like five CDs in the past couple of years (RIAA CDs, that is - I also got some CDs from non-RIAA sources). I can't really boycott them any further - I haven't bought a CD at all this year, and have no plans to in the future. I also don't "share" music online, so they haven't "lost sales" that way, only by producing crap. It's a pity they'll never know and even if they did they'd blame the Internet.
I also wonder how much boycotting really effects these companies, especially with something like the Boston Market/McDonalds thing up above. When Boston Market was owned by a local company (and was Boston Chicken), I could support them guilt-free. Now that they aren't, their mashed potatos suck. Er, I'm supporting another business I don't like. ("Oh, BTW, the vegetarian French fries kinda-sorta had beef fat in them.")
Similar things happen with Sony. I don't buy any Sony music (not buying music at all helps with that), but I own a PS2 and purchase games for it, helping Sony anyway.
I guess I wonder how much "voting with your dollar" really matters - it seems to be next to impossible to get boycotts up to critical mass where they'll actually have an effect. I suppose what I'm saying is that boycotting doesn't really have that much of an effect unless we can get a large number of friends to actually care enough to join in. Otherwise, I think boycotting what you actually like is rather pointless.
You are in a maze of twisty little relative jumps, all alike.
Have you tried the dirt flavored one? I was curious and it's AMAZING how much like dirt it really tastes. Too bad my girlfriend wasn't as impressed when I passed her one without telling her what it was.
Seriously, dude. I wouldn't be bragging about those stats.

I don't know-- I seem to recall seeing "re-issued" CDs (now "digitally remastered"!) with "bonus tracks" as early as, say, 1994 or so.
Lucas first polished up SW for the "20th Anniversary" release circa 1997.
Really, if somebody has to take the credit (blame) for the practice of dripping out tiny bits of new content to get you to buy the old product, it's the record industry.
Forcing? More money? I saw the first one on VHS and that's the extent of my direct experience with The Matrix.
(films above 2.5 hours are not good financially as they reduce the number of performances per day and hence the number of bums on seats of paying customers)
:-}
Frankly I'd be worried if there was an excess number of bums on the seat of ANY paying customer...
--- I wish I could hear the soundtrack to my life. That way I'd know when to duck.
This makes perfect sense to me. I was thinking about it the other day. When people walk out of the theaters after viewing a great movie, they want to buy it on DVD. For most movies, this isn't possible, and the people have to wait. But if the movie they just saw was a sequel, and its predecessor is available for purchase, the people will run out and buy it. So, to release a DVD weeks before its sequel comes out is marketing genius. It hypes the upcoming sequel and itself, and if the sequel is great in the theaters, the first will sell great for the home.
How about "The Matrices"?
Man is the animal that laughs.
And occasionally whores for Karma.
Whoa.
The sequel is being released 6 months after the previous film. When do you expect them to release the DVD? This is only happening because they decided to release both movies in the same year. Wow, so exciting. But imagine if these movies were made by lucas, heck, we may not even have the first matrix dvd yet.
That is friggin gut busting. Awesome.
In the future Spaceballs will be a reality, but then again "even in the future nothing works!"
There is no dark side of the moon really, matter of fact it's all dark
That I have a subscription to Netflix, and never even considered that option... so ingrained is the impulse to purchase The Second Matrix.

Oh no you didn't... you did not just insult my favorite movie EVER... Back to the Future!
WB screwed it up. It should have read "TO BE CONCLUDED...", like in BttF2. Either that, or they are planning another move after Revolutions...

> Hence why most of us ... rent the video ... you are aware you can rent DVD's now
Yeah, right. Our local videos stores seem to think the directors vision of the film was off base, thus stocking about 90% fullscreen titles and a remaining 10% of widescreen. Of course, the widescreen editions are always gone. I'm sure the fullscreen edition of The Matrix will be a nice treat.
Now with 20% of the original film missing!
It was blatantly obvious that 1) the Reloaded DVD would be released before Revolutions, and that 2) this release would happen a few weeks prior to the Revolutions openning. Any categorization of this event as "news" or "something that matters" is naive at best and serving as a tool for the propaganda machines at worst.
...and in other shocking news, movie-sequel-makers release the current episode on dvd before they put the next episode in theaters. Film at noon, 1:30, 2:45, 5:50, 7:50, 9:50 and 10:55.
Just hit "Pause" any time, and rotate yourself around the screen if you want.
... and everyone will acknowlege "there is no dvd"... ... just my centropy replica in my machine.... ergo, vis-a-vis, concurrently...

Tell me about it... As hilarious as Monty Python and the Holy Grail is, I can't stand to watch it through to the end.
A popular movie is going to be released on DVD, hmm wonder how often this happens? Its a shame /. doesn't tell me everytime a movie is going to be released DVD.
From what I hear its allready been released on bittorrent.
The Matrix boxed set comes out. Of course, the smart money will wait for the next spring when the super-duper ultra-special Matrix boxed set with never before seen footage of Keanu Reeves picking his nose in bullet time comes out.

And me without my modpoints! Too bad this discussion wasn't yesterday.
Nice post. Not only did you get what he was TRYING to say (which some of the other people replying seemed to miss) but you also got why he missed his mark.

And I bet you don't even know what a spoonerism is

they know that after everybody has seen Revolutions nobody is going to buy Reloaded anymore!
If Google really cared they would fix Android Chrome to reflow text, instead of discriminating
Here's how i see it going down...
:o)
1. October - Reloaded DVD.
2. November - Revolutions in theatres.
3. Easter - Revolutions on DVD.
4. Christmas 2004 - Release Super-Duper Scum-Scrubbing Ultra Edition Boxed Set for Copophiliacs.
5. ???????
6. Profit!!!!!
(Sorry, I just had to do the obligatory profit post
Now I don't complain about the comparative emptiness
of Reloaded because I *understand* that it's only half
of a movie, so of course it has only half of a plot, and
the playground fight and the freeway fight more than
make up for the lack of paradigmatic innovation by
superlative implementation, but who the hell wrote in
the utterly pathetic and pointless sex scene? Fire that
man. And the direction! This could not be Wachowski
doings -- no, not the director(s) of Bound. Whoever
shot that crap should be pilloried without limit. How
anyone could make Carrie-Anne as sexy as a tapir
in a spittoon is a question to boggle the mind.

Or are you all boycotting Blockbuster, too? I didn't see it mentioned here, but seems like a quick rental would be a good alternative for the LOTR releases too. $4 or so lets you and all your friends watch Reloaded before you go see Revolutions in the theater, while you continue to wait for the boxed set of dvds to come out later. Just because a DVD is released and you want to watch it, doesn't mean you have to purchase it.
You want a sig? I can get you a sig... Hell, I can get you a sig by 3 o'clock this afternoon... with nail polish.
Actually, if you watch the scene between Neo and the Oracle, right after he comes out of the "back doors" -- the one where she admit's she's a machine intellegence, but she wants to work with humans to solve the problems the Earth is facing rather than destroy again and again -- that candy she's eating, is the kind you're talking about. It's pretty significant, because she offers him some, says that he's already made the decision whether or not to eat it and she knows what that is, and then he eats one. So that candy really does symbolize the Red Pill.
on vcd the day it was released to the rip-off houses, er, ^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H theatres..
Someone released a direct film to video rip of the movie, complete with Dolby 5.1 sound about a couple of weeks back. It was in DiVX format, but clear enough to approach 1st or 2nd gen VHS.
Just because you can mod me down, doesn't mean you're right. Shoes for industry!
First, the Matrix fanatics who love the story and saw Reloaded in theatres several times will watch it on DVD several times during that three-week span before rushing out to cram theatres for the Tuesday-night previews on November 4 (Election Day?).
Second, those who were skeptical or otherwise missed Reloaded (and/or even the first film as well) will have three weeks to rent or buy the DVD/VHS tape in order to catch up on what they missed.
A potential third could be that, because even Reloaded is so fresh, and because the entire trilogy is available for the first time, fanatics might be more likely to watch all three films several times in order to catch every tiny detail.
In any case, the finale to an incredible story spells Box Office success. But I'm not going to see it for the money it can make. I could name a few good reasons to go see the film that might make me seem like I'm an egotistical know-it-all. While those reasons apply, let's just say that wire-fu, guns, explosions, and more philosophical problems than a movie should be able to handle are what's drawing me back.
p.s.- Drop by the newsgroup ALT.MOVIES.THE-MATRIX to discuss the movies and their "universe".

So I've been moving house and working over to meet deadlines, but it was just this past weekend that I decided to head off to the cinema to see the new Matrix film. Thing is, it's gone. None of the local cinemas are showing it any more. It was a choice of driving 40 miles south to a cinema that had a single showing at 7:05pm saturday, or 90 miles north for a cinema that was still running the film albeit in a broom cupboard or something.
Someone, somewhere has decided that it would be better all round to take the matrix off and show Daddy Day Care instead.
So, um, yeah, that DVD release couldn't come too soon...
He's still in the Matrix, he just shifted to the "Alternate Matrix designed to occupy rebelious minds that won't accept the civilized Matrix".
We'd guessed something like that after #1, then #2 just cemented it. Now to wait for whichever one spells it out in neon letters for the terminally dense... >^-^
(Oh, and as you're slashdotters, I don't think you are in the terminally dense category!)
Sweet - I can't wait for opening night to see how many people are waiting in line with laptops watching 1 and 2 on DVD, timed just perfectly to start with 3 right afterward. Mmmmm...that's definately going to be one night of total loss of other productivity. :)
They aren't forcing anyone to do anything. If I want to see Reloaded just before Revolutions, I'll pay a video store $3 to rent the DVD.
i share your sentiments, but i'm sure you've already come to the same conclusion we all have. We pay the extra for the distribution, marketing and all the rigamarole that although might we label as "bullshit" is actually effective in generating mass appeal and attention to make it successfull enough to scale and plan the movie in the first place. What the executives pocket is an entirely different issue.
What the brothers get paid is what they negotiated. It has nothing to do with what's fair value or what's fair share. While we get some amazing things due to the thanks of many greedy little men in the middle, I'd give it all away for fair economics, personal style. Did anyone say "barter" and "remote island"?
"Last one in is a rotten goblin!" - Kepp
They are probably rushing the release of the second matrix to use it to promote the new one. If people are buying the second one than they will rush out to see the third one.
