Indeed. Maxis either got boned or boned us on this one. The minimum specs on the box are about 1/3rd of what is really required for playing the game over an hour.
Wasn't there some sort of lawsuit against EA about requirements being way off?
Heh. You want to see some bad reviews, watch G4TV some time. They have one show "Judgement Day" which says some negative things about games, but then every other show on there hypes 'em up. They had their "Christmas Shopping" specials and they listed almost EVERY game that was out at the time as games to buy. They did seem to order them from good to bad, but they didn't make that clear. Bizarre. I think it was the same guys that do Judgement Day, too.
Call me ignorant, because I am, but I thought Intel's HT was basically emulating dual CPUs, and it was transparent to the OS. Why would the OS need special support for it?
The argument may be that databases are easier/cheaper to update regularly than school textbooks. Perhaps in the future the textbooks will come on CDROM or delivered over the network to the classrooms so that we'd never* see thirty-year-old text in the class again.
At least, that's how I'd justify it if I were Dell/Apple/MS pushing computers to schools.:)
I've been wondering the same thing. The damn feds have it in my head that now I have to check everything a charity does before I give them money or used clothing or whatever. It's burdensome.
I don't want to be disappeared 20 years from now because of what I do today.
I know, I know, I'm a pussy. But I doubt I'm the only one.
The safety and freedom you enjoy in the US is at least partly due to the US Govt's and US corporations's(as supported by the Govt) oppression of other nations (some even demorcacies!). Without the lesser nations to farm off our extreme polluting and pennies-per-hour labor on we'd collapse, without serious domestic reform.
The X10 camera ads were what did me in. The whole "Spy on women" angle was offensive. The method of delivery (pop-under) was offensive.
Haven't been there much since, and definitely not without Mozilla, so I haven't noticed much. Do they still issue pop-unders?
It's too bad Yahoo has sunk so far from grace - they could have taken a stand on advertising policies.

I agree. I have an ASUS A7V266 motherboard with an onboard Promise ATA controller. I put my drive on the controller and plugged in my USB mouse - now when the drive gets really busy, the mouse is all jerky, because for some reason ASUS decided to put USB on the same IRQ as the Promise card - and provided no way to resolve this!
And why do they set up the PCI cards so that they _must_ share IRQs if you were to fill them all (or so you have to consider which slots to use). I'd trade the supposed "ease" of that to jumpers on each slot letting me pick the IRQs. Plug and play is crud.
Heh, wacky. The site suggests that OJ looked more guilty because the photo was darker. And then it goes on to say to question whether or not that was racial insensitivity because TIME was saying "blacker means guiltier". But NPAA.org is saying that, right there!
Yes, let's just "imagine" what would happen if all content is "geocoded". We could make it so people could only view certain content with certain geocoded viewers, and outlaw viewers that can view all content regardless of its geocode. Imagine how marvelous such a thing would be!!
You mean like http://www.gamespot.com/ ? They have a reviewer score and a separate "reader" score, which for some reason seems to be higher usually.
Wasn't it "select, start"?
/.!
It's been 8 seconds since you hit 'reply'! Thanks

Not to mention OpenSSH. That was a fun couple of months.

What evil bit RFC? I've never heard anything about an evil bit RFC. Can /. repost it?

I'm going to wait until all this speculation comes back down to earth.

Yeah. I wonder if there's a good way around that other than having to manually cut and paste the URL.
I'd probably stop thinking of girlfriends as sexual partners if they'd stop getting so damned jealous when I fuck their best friends.
Well, that's what ya get for having a funeral. For me, y'all can just toss me in the ocean or whatever and call (on your cell phone!) for some pizza.
is really making me wish I could run IE on FreeBSD. This bug has been in Mozilla since the dawn of time, as far as I can remember anyways.
But hey, at least we have CPU-consuming smooth scrolling!!

Apple isn't making them because they don't think they have to. They're apparently quite happy with their current market share.
IPv4 gets an "evil" bit
Ya know, there's an easier way to stop getting calls, and it doesn't require paying the extortionists. :)
Discover charges an extra percentage point over Visa/MC. Guess where that 1% "cash back bonus award" comes from? Yep, right from the merchant!
They could sure learn from mr. TimeCube!
