    FYI: Burger King has been accepting debit/credit cards in my area (Washington state) for many years now, and McDonalds has just started accepting debit/credit cards as well.

    What I want to know is: As the government would pretty much have to encrypt their key escrow storage, would they need to provide a key to some other escrow agency/system? IE, wouldn't they be held to the same laws we are? If not, you have to wonder which government agencies would be exempt from these laws.

    IAANAL (also), but I believe this is what the "survivability" clauses in contracts are for. Basically, if any part of the contract is ruled null, then the remainder of the contract remains in force.

    4 hits, that's all? This morning I counted 1699 unique hits on one server, and 3485 on another (both up about 50% from 1 hour ago!). And these are just two servers out of a farm of 20 each of which have 2-5 /24's on them. Haven't seen any of Microsoft's servers yet, but I'll keet y'all posted. :)

    This search engine needs some serious help. The search engine spamming^W"positioning" folks are hammering it already. I did a search for 'dpk', and several 'dpk.htm' hits from various spammed porn sites with obviously bogus URLs show up. (Check it out, you'll see what I mean.)

    Each of them has hit default.ida on one server I'm watching. From what I can tell from whois -a, 207.46 is all Microsoft corp! They can't even keep up with their patches.

    (btw, on this same server I'm seeing a new unique IP default.ida hit every second)

    PGP your email to mom asking for some new underwear. The thing is, if everything is encrypted, they wont be able to tell what is actually supposed to be encrypted

    This is assuming, of course, that they can't already crack PGP encryption. If you get a package from the NSA, don't be surprised if it contains the underwear you asked for. ;-)

    This is a Microsoft story. It's both a commentary on VeriSign's sad security, and a warning to those who have trusted Microsoft's certificates in the past to be aware of the fact that they may be bogus.

    Not sure which voucher system you are talking about, but the voucher system I've seen attempted - the private schools that would accept vouchers would be limited to only accepting the voucher value and nothing more. So there wouldn't be a big difference. Current public schools would shrink, sure, but only as newer, better private schools pop up to take on the students. Unfortunately, it wasn't passed, because people didn't understand what they were voting on and listened to the ads.

    Fine. Open Relays are bad in this day and age. But don't let that cloud the issue. They are not the true cause of the spam. Don't try to shift the responsibility off the spammers here, it's fully 100% their fault, nobody elses. It's just like if Safeway leaves their door open, they're not at fault for getting robbed. This is the kind of thing ORBS spews to justify their damage to the 'net.

    Most of my domain transfers are handled within 10 minutes. But what really, really burns me is updating host records. I've been waiting over 2 weeks for my host records to update; in 4 weeks the old IP address will no longer function!

    We *need* free and fair competition. NSI knows that if true competition entered the market, they would be out of luck, due to gross incompetence, overpricing, and a complete lack of net.clue.
