FYI: Burger King has been accepting debit/credit cards in my area (Washington state) for many years now, and McDonalds has just started accepting debit/credit cards as well.
What I want to know is: As the government would pretty much have to encrypt their key escrow storage, would they need to provide a key to some other escrow agency/system? IE, wouldn't they be held to the same laws we are? If not, you have to wonder which government agencies would be exempt from these laws.
IAANAL (also), but I believe this is what the "survivability" clauses in contracts are for. Basically, if any part of the contract is ruled null, then the remainder of the contract remains in force.
Of course, if it was your first day on the job, you may have to consider yourself lucky if you are invited back for a second day. *This* guy may not have suffered damage (I'll contend that he did, but for the sake of argument....), others *will*.
4 hits, that's all?
This morning I counted 1699 unique hits on one server, and 3485 on another (both up about 50% from 1 hour ago!). And these are just two servers out of a farm of 20 each of which have 2-5/24's on them.
Haven't seen any of Microsoft's servers yet, but I'll keet y'all posted.:)
This search engine needs some serious help. The search engine spamming^W"positioning" folks are hammering it already. I did a search for 'dpk', and several 'dpk.htm' hits from various spammed porn sites with obviously bogus URLs show up. (Check it out, you'll see what I mean.)
Each of them has hit default.ida on one server I'm watching. From what I can tell from whois -a, 207.46 is all Microsoft corp! They can't even keep up with their patches.
(btw, on this same server I'm seeing a new unique IP default.ida hit every second)
Humorous. So if they'd prefer to use the date that we have on our own computers, which can be way way off, rather than using their own more accurate datestamp?
PGP your email to mom asking for some new underwear. The thing is, if everything is encrypted, they wont be able to tell what is actually supposed to be encrypted
This is assuming, of course, that they can't already crack PGP encryption. If you get a package from the NSA, don't be surprised if it contains the underwear you asked for.;-)
If they're so bad, and you feel you can do better, maybe you should try to get a job there? At least that way you don't have to put up any capital, unless you want to.
Imagine a world where complicated computer networks need little or no interaction with humans
Wasn't this the plot to, oh, around a million sci-fi movies?
This is a Microsoft story.
It's both a commentary on VeriSign's sad security, and a warning to those who have trusted Microsoft's certificates in the past to be aware of the fact that they may be bogus.
Not sure which voucher system you are talking about, but the voucher system I've seen attempted - the private schools that would accept vouchers would be limited to only accepting the voucher value and nothing more. So there wouldn't be a big difference. Current public schools would shrink, sure, but only as newer, better private schools pop up to take on the students.
Unfortunately, it wasn't passed, because people didn't understand what they were voting on and listened to the ads.
Has anyone reformatted the movie into something less lame than Quicktime so we either a) don't have to use annoyware or b) can view this on our FreeBSD boxen?
Fine. Open Relays are bad in this day and age. But don't let that cloud the issue. They are not the true cause of the spam.
Don't try to shift the responsibility off the spammers here, it's fully 100% their fault, nobody elses. It's just like if Safeway leaves their door open, they're not at fault for getting robbed.
This is the kind of thing ORBS spews to justify their damage to the 'net.
''We can build a better product than Linux,'' he (Alchin) said.
Then please, do it already.
At least he's implying that Linux is already a better product than Windows.;)
Most of my domain transfers are handled within 10 minutes. But what really, really burns me is updating host records. I've been waiting over 2 weeks for my host records to update; in 4 weeks the old IP address will no longer function!
We *need* free and fair competition. NSI knows that if true competition entered the market, they would be out of luck, due to gross incompetence, overpricing, and a complete lack of net.clue. - dpk

Hi mods, please mod this up. And maybe highlight it. Make the font +20. Nobody is reading it.

The procedure could make it possible for a surgeon to perform an operation on a patient anywhere in the world.
and here we are worrying about whether or not the govt will be able to open our *emails*...

Doesn't matter. UTC is Universal Time Something. It's the time before the time zone offset is applied.
No, UTC is UTC is UTC, everywhere. Any servers that will attack will attack in 48 minutes - 5:00PM PDT.

Hasn't it been well past that time for years?

Huh, I saw FreeBSD's license behind "Copyright", on the bottom of FreeBSD's home page. Stunning.

For some reason when you said Trojan hardware I imagined a condom with "chips" printed onto them. Oh the possibilities there.
