If the record companies don't want us to create so many digital copies, maybe they shouldn't be using technology they know can be copied, and they should just hold more concerts and go back to vinyl or something.
You never heard of the analogue loop? The cat's out of the bag now.
Adobe is not only slow to fix security holes; it continues to distribute software it knows has holes that are actively being exploited.
True, Flash has issues, but then Adobe also make Photoshop (yeah, GIMP is usable but nowhere near as good), Dreamweaver (actually they bought that one, but it's still closed source), After Effects and a host of other top-notch industry standard software.
But then I don't use anything closed source anymore, so perhaps I'm missing some other well deserved programs.
So what you're saying is you're talking about something that you don't know about? When was the last time you did use some of this software that you so hate?
Is this why the latest post I see was apparently 10 hours ago (even after refreshing) when I know for a fact people have been made comments since then?
In this case by showing Sony we won't take their crap, by buying their crap
No, it's a case of showing Simon Cowell that we won't take his crap by buying someone else's music. yeah, it's on the same label but the sentiment of "fuck you, I won't do what you tell me" is perfect when taken in this context.
Yeah, getting people to buy nothing is nice idea, but it's too passive to work. It's better this way.
Living in cities has enabled us to abstract the bare necessities. Since we do not need to worry about where our food comes from, or how it is made; just that it will be there when we need it, we can focus ourselves more intensely on updating our twitter status and choosing which brand of coffee to drink.
My Macbook Pro came with instructions on how to replace the hard disk. I didn't look very closely but would that really invalidate my warranty? I'm just curious - it doesn't matter much to me because I'm a smoker and therefore touching the inside of my Macbook is apparently too dangerous for Apple employees.
There's a woman who works near me who I regularly see walking along whilst wearing headphones and reading a book. I figure the problem will take care of itself eventually.
Don't blame the band, I'm sure they would be more than happy to leave those small places in favor of larger and more lucrative joints
No, do blame the band. If they want to play at bigger/better venues then they will need to learn how to play at appropriate levels - this includes listening to the musicians around you and adapting as necessary. The bands that hurt your ears are the ones that play at a constant excessive level. They're the ones who laugh at their guitarists saying "yeah, he likes to turn it up!!" and the drummers that say " yeah, I can't play quietly! lol!" They're the ones that turn their guitars and amps down during the sound check and then up when the gig starts so that everything distorts, as if it's some kind of battle between the band and the sound engineer.
Sure, you've got a point: small venues with bad acoustics just make things worse, but if you can't play well quietly then the chances are you're not a very good musician.
Well considering that languages are abstract structures and therefore highly unlikely to possess a brain in the first place I would posit that English itself is very far from brain dead and it is more likely the case that the above slashdotters (yes both of you) are the ones who are in possession of said deceased grey matter.
They can also glide upwards. You can get lift by riding thermals or catching the lift from where wind hits a hill.
How exactly would you power a glider mid-flight without an engine? Attaching a tow line mid-flight doesn't sound like fun to me.

The energy required to push a car forward is nothing compared to the energy needed to keep it in the air.
And yet gliders work without an engine at all...
Google: We just make shit and then figure out what happened afterwards, on Slashdot.
I've got a product. It's brown and it smells and I can make as much as you need. I just can't find a market for it anywhere! What am I doing wrong?
It does actually have oil
Isn't that's why "dubai doesn't have oil" comes under the heading "misconceptions"?
And yet it's classed as insightful. Aah, Monday mornings!

I'm still missing it.
Such high hopes and potential.
Should check out haiku.

Don't you mean "1 Megadollar failure"?

If I give them the source, anyone can immediately take the culmination of time, effort and ideas and duplicate it for as many people as they want.
Maybe I'm just a stinking commie hippy liberal but isn't it kind of sad that that's considered a bad thing?
Ah, I'd always wondered how they get that striped effect on football pitches!

tl;dr
What, an 'unlimited' plan which has limits?
