And, of course, in the normal way of life, we are predicted to have clouds and rain for the next few days. Seems to always happen whenever there is something cool going on in the sky!
I knew an guy who had worked with air conditioners for years- he couldn't be fingerprinted either, and that was with the old style ink method. The chemicals he worked with burned off the surface of the skin on his fingers.
I bought several items from them recently, and on one item ordered the wrong thing (my fault). They accepted the return and shipped the right part with no problems, no hassle.
When I was much younger, my mother could sit down and write up a grocery list to feed a family of 9 for a week- and do it in the order she would be going thru the store aisles- by memory alone! Now she gets frustrated because things get moved around, or aren't carried anymore- and she's only buying for 2.
I work at a hospital, and doctors will go out and buy their own laptops without asking us for advice first-then they bring them to us and expect us to make them work on the hospital network. They get a little unhappy when we tell then their Vista Home notebook isn't compatible, and they will have to spend another $200 to upgrade to Ultimate. I like what I have seen of Windows 7 so far, but I was really hoping they would cut down on the number of editions available.
Per Microsoft's FAQ, you have to use IE and their active X downloader program to download the file. There was mention of a web download, but I didn't read the details. BTW, it downloaded much faster from Microsoft today then it did from the torrent I tried last week.
Swear to God this just happened today!!!! While at lunch, our network guys got a call that the network was down at one of our locations about a mile away. They stopped by on their way back from lunch, of course the network was up and running. Turns out the power had just come back up after a 2 hour outage.
No, but that would be fun. I have to reboot each time I want to switch OS's. I loaded VMplayer, and tried 2 different Ubuntu images in my XP load, but neither would run..I think they had problems with my hardware. I wanted to play with Server 2008 as well, but the only appliance that VMplayer has for it is out of trial period time.
For some of us its our job. No matter what we think of Windows, our livelihood depends upon our knowledge of whatever flavor of Windows the customer is using. And that means staying ahead of the game. My current personal system is triple booting between Ubuntu, XP, and Vista. Why would I ignore Windows 7?
In the 1970's there were still parts of the beach in Daytona where blacks were not allowed to go. In the 1980's, the police routinely were called when a group of blacks went to the beach "because they might be planning a riot or something." In the 1990's, there were still restaurants where, if I took a black friend, we could not enjoy our meal because we would be stared at the entire time. There are parts of Florida (and I am sure elsewhere) where the KKK still has power. And last night, Florida, as well as the rest of the United States, elected an African American as President. We may have a long way to go, but we are getting there.
I worked as a contractor for a short time for a company that was starting this. They offered free gym membership, a discount for a diet plan, etc, but the downside was if you didn't meet certain goals for weight loss your insurance rates went up. They also ran a variety of other tests to see if you smoked, etc. Luckily, I had another job offer by the time they were ready to make me a permanent employee. Too Big Brother for me.
Whether or not you have legislative backing, it certainly creates bad PR for a company when they cripple a fully licensed piece of software because their system mistakenly identified it as pirated.
Thank you for your post, even if you posted it as anonymous. You expressed what I was thinking perfectly. I hope your condition will improve in time, although I bet the doctors tell you it won't.
So what's new? It's been a couple of years since the LAST time I went to college, but college should be about more then just studying books- it should also be about learning to make your own decisions, and not have Mom and Dad make them for you.
I'm not sure if the college administration was making up the part about parents "complaining" or not. I still haven't figured out why parents want to treat college students like they are still in middle school, and why colleges are willing to go along with it!
I wish I had mod points to give, tho the parent comment is already at 5. The poster has hit the nail on the head- this is exactly what I have seen. Hate to tell you this, but people DO pay attention to how you present yourself the first time they meet you, and base a lot of their future opinions about you on that first impression. It can take a long time for your skill to overcome that, depending upon the thickheadedness of the person making that judgment.
And the poster is also right about the female and race issues. And that is the reason that, as a female, I will often "overdress" for the position I am in. People can't quite figure out a female installing their PC who is dressed better then most of their staff. It's quite fun, actually.
As a real female and somewhat of a feminist, I am not offended by yahoo offering this, but it does seem a bit odd.
Happened in New Zealand, I believe. I have no idea what the laws are there regarding employment.

It's about time the court system in Florida got something right. (And I speak as a FORMER resident.)

Isn't this what Microsoft tried with WGA? And you know the rest of THAT story....
