HAHA! A new meme! Those kitten killers need to feel the wrath of angry mob 2.0! Instead of burning torches and pitchforks, we the angry mob 2.0 can wield flickr, twitter, youtube and/. at the naughty witching minorities!
It's funny. The US calls all their sports the 'world series' and shit. They only involve the US!!! HOW IS THAT THE WORLD??? The world cup soccer involves folks from all continents (even little Australia is in it again!) and world cup rugby most continents. These are sports with competitors from around the World not just all around the United States of America "world".
Solution, go to canon website download.debs in a tar. Install and done.
I am actually too lazy to try DVB cards or wireless cards, but I have found the DVB cards work out of the box on Linux usually. My wireless card has given me problems but there are open source drivers which can be easily downloaded and compiled.
Case in point though. I have a USB webcam where the windows drivers have been lost, it works out of the box on ubuntu, you can not find the drivers anywhere for Windows though!
I noticed that google does give credit to ffmpeg on its "about" page, funnily enough I checked it out last night and clicked the ffmpeg link to read about what they had to say! So I think it is now included.
are a couple of dead giveaways. I know a guy at school (Pattie) who always checks folks laptops for recent documents. Very funny sometimes! So my advice is to a) use a browser with 'incognito' or similar mode for 'privacy'. Of course there is always having multiple user accounts! Ubuntu has a 'guest' account by default I understand. I usually have a "user" account on my laptop, no privelages, default browser etc.
I reckon the thing I miss the most when looking for good applications on Windows (and to some extent OSX) is package management. This method of distribution including central update management and the use of key signing to ensure software hasn't been tampered with is priceless.
The advantage I can see in this java distribution is the ability to search one location for software, just like you do with a package manager like apt (on Debian, Ubuntu etc.). Another is that it is cross platform! Maybe this will lead people to pay just a little for OOo and to realise that it is fine for most peoples' needs.
I say good on them. Especially if it is cross platform. But I also reckon that if it is possible, there should be an open source model created too. This way I could install apt-osx or apt-win and have a nice gui to acquire all the latest and greatest open source software from one source.
I am totally sick of port on the mac and hunting for shitty shareware on win*.
I used to play the shareware version of the original duke nukem (you know... the 2D one), always drooled over the really fucking cool lookin' next 3 episodes which weren't on my computer.Ahhh... the memories.
But surely the duke nukem forever thing was a joke from the start right? There never was intent to finish it (hence the forever bit).
+1 Handbrake. It is packages with a GUI for Ubuntu (Debian?) it is fast (multi threaded), you can line up several runs to go one after the other (baatch processing) and it 'just works'.
I used it the other day to rip 3.iso's (of Charlie and Lola) down to my custom 1GB avi (using h264 and vbr mp3) and it ran and finished in what seemed like ~1 hr! This was on 2 pass, and they look fantastic!
I wonder if it only works so well because it was made for mac first?
I read about (in the New Scientist) how the warming arctic is melting permafrost which is possibly related to the cold air flowing down over north america. This is why you call it climate change, there are places which may get colder even as the whole world on average warms.
Well I still like paper books. I find it far easier to read if it is printed, I can't even read more than a page or two of a pdf before I print it out... let alone a whole bloody book!
I exported a spreadsheet as a picture from ms-excel and OMFG it defaults to.png!!!!!!! wtf!!!! Surely this is not the sign of a limited spread? I think png is the new default format, after jpg.
I am not a systems admin, simply an end user but I have heard about Ubuntu's (pay-per-user) system management, group policy tool, Landscape. Now like I said, I don't know much about it but it is $150 per seat (I understand) but sounds to me to manage all the above stuff!
There is a free trial, so as you can test it and check it works for you. You get the advantage of using the (in my view) most widely community supported Linux distro which means great (recent) software. This is what I would start with (but I have never done it before and would be learning hard and fast).
Web surfing and particularly flash web surfing takes up a bit of CPU, so I reckon this is why ipod tough etc. don't have flash. How does the N810/800 go with flash games etc.? I reckon the Kindle would crumble before most web pages when the bloody flashing adds start playing.
Virtualbox booted windows 7 fine for me. I called it Vista and it was good. Needed the Vista network drivers and now I have it running good in a VM. Now... I wonder if I can change the date in the machine so it lasts longer than July/August and then can replace my aging XP VM for windows apps...
I read that NiNs' freely available album was the highest selling digital music seller on Amazon I just checked tpb and the fellow who created the torrent says the whole album is CC share alike!
So this means that the album IS available for free to legally download via torrent AND it was the highest sale on Amazon. Remarkable eh!
I have had sugar running on my ubuntu pc at home, it is very different, but in a school with very connected computers, wouldn't Sugar (regardless of the OLPC debacle) be perfect for an educational suite specifically built for collaboration?
Perhaps a pilot study should be undertaken with one of the above school admins and a class (10-20 PCs) of kids to see if Ubuntu + sugar = fun, educational, inclusive and collaborative computer learning experience!
The one big issue I can see is the near impossibility of getting out of sugar and back to gnome to use open office!!!

Hey I love mpd and pitchfork too, with icecast I can play my music on any computer in the house (albeit with a 6 second delay)!
so the thing to do is not worry now, worry later. the warm weather will mitigate the flu.
What about we unfortunate folks in the south of the planet... It's getting colder here already.
I call insensitive clod.

You must be a statistician.

So I just tied some CAT5 to her ankle and sent her into the attic.
So err... you must let her out for sunlight every now and then right? Sounds good otherwise.
I guess causing 'cybersecurity issues' is better than 'nuclear warfare issues'.
There market is about to shrink...
err... Sorry to be a grammar Nazi, but... since your sig is:
I prefer the "u" in honour as it seems to be missing these days.
It seems timely to let you know that you should have used "their".

I understand that China asked for (and received) the source code to Windows (no source err.. reference) although I don't know how complete it was.
