If Jesuss teachings were followed today, we would live in a wonderful world.
true enough, but if eveyone were FORCED to do something, where's the People's right to choose?
I have less affection and respect for contemporary organized religion of all faiths, which have, in my opinion, turned far away from such teaching.
<sigh>Jon, there are many similarities in the teachings of the world's religions, but more of them never taught Christ's teachings to begin with. how can they stray?
I do resent the so-called Christian Right, which intruded itself into American politics more than any other religion and often promotes censorship and a visceral distrust of technology.
what's wrong with people voicing their opinions? just because i happen to be a Conservative Christian (and i AM!), should i stop trying to support people that share my beliefs? it's part of what makes America great, Jon. if you can't handle it, the border's over there.
But I have also criticicized other religions when they do this.
i will have to take your word on that one.
I believe religion has no place in politics, education or technology.
then you might like to know a little about what influence it's already had on your ability to speak your mind. go back and read the Declaration of Independance, Jon. how many references do you notice to God? i count four direct references and one indirect ("We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here.")!! if we were to remove any/all religion from our government, you'd be forced to ditch the Declaration, too.
Some -- in fact, almost all -- of the people closest to me in the world are devout Christians, and in the original and wonderful sense of the term.
if you substituted a race for each reference to "Christian" here, you'd have done some serious insult to members of that race. i am Christian. do the math.
i mentioned this to a friend of mine, and he had this to say: "it's harder to use windows for the DDoS stuff because you can't do as much with windows. ok, so the yugo must be better than my saturn because it can't drive as fast, therefore, less accidents."
trying to blame an OS for this DoS stuff is like trying to blame Ford or Chrysler for drunk drivers and speeders.
many have made the point already, in various forms: the OS that the perpetrator(s) used could have been anything. he/she/it/they could have used any or all of Linux, Solaris, Win*, or even OS/2, just to name a few operating systems...
the OS that was used isn't the point. the fact is that there are people that do this stuff. there always has, and there probably always will be. the trick is to figure a way to get around the problem so that it's not an issue anymore.
consider, if you will, the Great Flood. all you that don't believe the Bible can stop reading this right now; you won't get it, and you will only try to ridicule what you don't understand.
i heard some compelling things about this; that the people and animals that didn't make it onto the ark with Noah ended up becoming what we know as oil deposits. think about it. there's this huge amount of water (no reference of rain in the Bible until the Flood with Noah!), and the dead got buried in the silt and whatever else was settling as the waters receded... another poster here mentioned fossils found in the coal or shale. if you consider this theory, then it would make sense, eh?
where i work, it's not uncommon for a lab (like mine) to "inherit" machines from other labs that have been merged with other groups or done away with altogether. sometimes those machines have NT on them.
a solution that we have used is to have a Linux boot disk handy....;)
People like you give religion a bad name. You think that you're God's frickin' gift to humanity, here to set all of us unwashed pagan savages straight with your divine truth. People like you are responsible for the crusades and the inquisitions and the witch burnings of the world. Worse yet, you're the type of moron who would go to the Sistine Chapel and start painting boxers on all the nudes 'cause children might see Adam's dick.
how the heck THIS crap made it through moderation to a '2', i'll NEVER know.
since you like harping on the religion point, try reading the First Amendment to the Constitution. read ALL of it. it's simple, really. it says:
Congress shall make no law respection an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free excercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of people to peaceably assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
the problem is that people like you keep stopping after they read the "establishment of religion part. try looking at history some time. when there wasn't such a mad rush to quell Christian beliefs, this country wasn't so bad off; the worst thing common to schools was that the kids chewed gum in class or wouldn't stop talking or something. today, teachers are nothing more than glorified babysitters, often afraid for their lives because they don't know when one of their students are going to go postal.
before you start ranting on me because of my comment on Christianity (and yes, i AM a Christian!), i understand that Christians don't hold the corner on morals; it just seems that way when the rest of the world wants to make up the rules as they go along.
i'm not saying that Christian beliefs need to be forced on people. i AM saying that before beliefs are thrown out because they HAPPEN to be Christian, they should be examined for value on their own right.
what do you suppose would be their reaction if everyone reused to honor their restrictions? they can't sue EVERYONE, and maybe they'd just take their ball and go home......which looks like it might be their next step anyway.
what would it take to get a devoted Free replacement available? granted, these buggers have the first-hand information because of their position, but there's got to be SOMETHING that can be done about their attitude....
i wouldn't be surprised to see M$ behind this. Corel has, as any self-respecting/. reader knows, a lawsuit against them that it looks promising for Corel... (of course, why it's taking this long to go to court is BEYOND me...)
i tried Pepsi MAX when i was in Italy this past March. it tasted like a cross between Pepsi and Pepsi One.... it didn't hit me as anything that had caffeine, though....
when i was in college, i used to go to my four-hour Electronics lectures with eight (8) cans of Jolt. I'd start out by chugging the first two before class started, then nurse the remaining six over the course of the class. on days when i felt i needed to "cut back", i substituted Pepsi for Jolt. did Jolt about three days out of five.
right now, i have between two and eight of those little "demi-tasse" cups of espresso every day...
hmmmm... maybe i'll cut back a little before i get cancer or something. nah.:)
apparently, nobody has thought about it... This idea doesn't sound new to me.
Ever seen a SPARC boot up? they have a neat flashy picture there that (get this!) CAN be changed. the trick is that (on older boxes anyway) the picture you use has to be a black-n-white.xpm or something. i think one could use color files on the newer Ultras, but i might be wrong.
if an ad can be put there, it can be changed. it would be stupid to have an advert be permanent, since in today's day and age, there's no guarantee that a company will even be around next week... 8\
