  1. Re:The Wii is a christmas fad on Will Wright Opines That Wii Is the Only Next-Gen Console · · Score: 1

I can only come up with definition for a serious gamer. A person who plays game for 12+ hours per day...which is more than half of the day devoted to games. And I guess any game these people play would be considered "serious" gaming? If you play tag for 12+ hours...I would assume you are a serious player and the tag must be a serious game. Unless the hunters are flesh eating zombies and you are their food. Then you are seriously screwed and the game is now about survival. Wait... wasn't there a game about...

Sure it's not perfect and sure it's only a party console that people do enjoy playing in a large group, but wil got this cute controller thing going. And no I don't quite like the way it works at time but it is a step closer to it then any other consoles right now.

Closer to what? The TOTAL virtual reality where you can completely immerse yourself in. Honestly, I think that's where the 'real serious gaming' really is. All those fancy graphics and wireless control are all stepping stones towards it and nothing more.

Mind you, I don't know if it's gonna end up like the Matrix or simply wearing a 3-d goggle or something...but I want that. And wii is a lot closer to it then any other console right now.

So until we have that thing...all the smart people here and everywhere debating what's the greatest should focus their energy on developing better games and help me get my serious gaming machine. Soonish!

-I spent $1000 to upgrade my pc for Oblivion. Survived through months of delay. Got the game. Played for a month and got bored of it soon after. Mediocre game. Ever.

Actually, that really should be the way to go in any community: that law to keep trouble out should not be necessary. But that's just wishful thinking of course. I do have to ask how many of us would simply pay off any damage if it's less than $1000 in fear of your automobile insurance going up if you start filing everything? Sure, large accidents and manufacture errors--like engine suddenly going kaboom...happened to a friend of mine after getting his car one week prior--should be covered and mostly likely you will let insurance company foot the bill. But if you scratch your car while parking, unless it's a major dent you will either just keep it there until it gets more damaged or it's out of your own pocket. You gotta admit insurance in many situations are...simply a money lost and investment on 'what-ifs' that you hope you will never have to cash out but still pay since government mandates.

  5. Torment, anyone? on On Provoking Emotions Via Games · · Score: 1

I think it's one of the few games where I realized the game ended when the credit rolled. I mean, I knew it was a game but the story was so involved that when the game really ended (one of many endings, from what I hear), I realized this is it. Then awe and sense of completion followed. And desire for more that never... I should get back to it one of these days.

Actually, I wonder if text based games are dead or not. I know people still play nethack and what not but those who play, probably are not the first time players but rather players visiting nostaligia, etc.

Yeah, mine is not gathering dust since I put it away in a plastic bag... I think I might lend it to my brother soon. Having said that, it has been great at BBQ parties where we took out our TV and set it out in the backyard so we can play wii sports without hurting each other. I think it's just the matter of how busy you are. I spend more time on DS since I can use it while I commute. PC/wii, not so much.

How many companies are under EA now? If EA ever go down, won't we see a huge void all of the sudden as all the creative game labs also go down with it?
