    Not all LED bulbs dim. I know this from direct experience.
    I think it is because part of the design of the dimmer circuit is the resistance of an incandescent bulb.

    I replaced the halogen spotlights in my small bathroom with LEDs. Brighter, no heat, and still instant on. I also saved about 90 Watts.

    That was my old house. I am working toward a fully LED solution in my new house.

    I have never known Accenture to do anything successfully. I worked for a company a few years ago that brought Accenture in to take over running their IT. It was supposed to speed up issue resolution, make experts available, and be less expensive.
    No, no, and NO! Plus they used getting this as a way to get their foot in the door, and then got their people into everything they could. The company is slowly failing.
    I went out and celebrated the day I got my layoff.

    If this is a problem, change the rule. It is just a rule, it is unlikely to be carved in stone anywhere.

    You let off the gas and kick it down by one gear, then downshift further as the car slows down, while keeping an eye on the tachometer to make sure you don't completely red-line it - even downhill, the engine itself acts as a brake quite well in most cars and small SUVs.

    I have done this in a car that the brakes had failed. Very frightening, but no real danger. As long as you are maintaining proper following distances you will have little trouble. If you know your vehicle you don't even need to watch the tach, you will know when to shift down.

    Theses days, if someone claims that GOD speaks to them, we conclude that they are nuts, and either medicate them, or lock them up. I think most people would agree that this is appropriate.
    So shouldn't we just assume that the prophets of old, were just crazy and then ignore the ancient ravings of crazy dead people?

    From time to time I get out my slow cooker, and make up a batch of stew, or split pea soup, but mostly I just couldn't be bothered.

    yeah, and those that don't get a balanced diet?

    Like me. I live alone, and so I don't cook very often. Mostly I get home from work, heat something up quickly and that is dinner.
    I started on a daily multivitamin about a year ago, and have since generally felt better. For the minimal expense I will stick with my daily multivitamin.
    YMMV.

    While baseball bats may be suitable, we here in accounting will only approve the less expensive 1-meter steel pipe from Dai Yung Enterprises.

    The shipping price of the 1 meter steel pipe is too high. We are therefor substituting a 1 meter aluminum pipe.

    Solution: Don't drive a McClaren in those conditions. You'll just have to take the Bentley, or the Rolls Royce.

    You don't drive a Bentley or a Rolls Royce... Your chauffeur drives the Bentley or the Roller. So it doesn't matter how the windscreen is kept clean as you will be riding in back, far away from such irrelevancies.
    As it should be.

    I've spent over an hour in a sensory deprivation tank and it wasn't nearly as trippy as this makes is sound.

    Thinking about this, I have come to the conclusion the the majority of /. geeks would probably do pretty well in a sensory deprivation environment. A lot of us have the ability to focus to the point where other sensory input practically disappears. So we are already used to it.
    I have frequently been so engrossed in what I was working on, that I could not hear someone trying to get my attention. I once worked through a fire alarm. (Fortunately a fire drill.)
