    Rock-solid slides for milling machines would rock the world. No, it ain't a sexy application, but it brings us a step closer to the ideal manufacturing scenario, where mechanical parts can actually be CNC-milled before they're even designed.

    I got a call from Erik Troan last week, telling me I could get fantastic savings by switching to RHN. It was a little irritating since RMS had already signed me up for Sprint the day before.

    To get around the death-of-PKI problem, I'm currently writing openSSH support for the St. Cyr algorithm. Security through obscurity isn't always a bad thing.

    once they relicense their code into WINE, they can't "withdraw" it, right? And any "missing" features (e.g. DirectX 10 olfactory extensions) could be added by others ... especially since the groundwork would already be laid, and obviously TransGaming doesn't control the spec. Is there really a risk of ongoing extortion here?

    This ruling led to the rise of "wannabee" phone directories (which we've had in California for over a decade). The compilers don't copy the yellow pages ads, or any data processing such as separation of business and residence numbers, but they can legally reprint the raw listings.

    (What's pathetic is that the wannabee phone books come out a few months after the telco's, and with a prettier cover, so people actually discard the official phone book ... and yellow pages advertisers are forced to buy their ads twice, one in each publication. Sad.)

    I waited years to find a copy of this game. Unfortunately it didn't age well -- the robots are programmed with logic gates and IC's, and they don't shoot each other -- but it's fascinating nonetheless.

    Not sure how you'd get away with ECM ... the rulebook says :
    If you employ magnets/electromagnets in your BattleBot design you must inform the Technical/Safety Inspectors of their presence and demonstrate that they will not cause radio interference. You may be disqualified at anytime if your BattleBots is found to cause radio interference.
    Darn ... good idea tho :)
