Just sayin... I was a latchkey child, and can remember my mom leaving for work and me walking to the bus stop for kindergarten after watching Romper Room (which, by the way, taught me how to dial 911 if something happens).
Am I exceptional? By certain metrics, I am. I was always safe as a kid, and remain so today. Was me being left home alone for about an hour every morning before school when I was six child abuse? Considering the alternative would have been a single mother unable to financially support her kids, I think child abuse is as far from reality as possible.
I think there are legitimate reasons why security is so important now, but really, the shotgun approach just doesn't scale well. Add in the bureaucractic overhead and we're looking at massive investments for little return.
Hell, if you're gonna go so spend crazy, at least get the shit sponsored with ads or something. If you grope me at the airport, at least tell me it has been brought to me by Trojan condoms, and pass out a free sample.
Just because your brain is no longer spongy, that doesn't mean a young child can't learn how to do something new. If you can teach them language, you can teach them how a UI works.
Leaving a 5 year old at home is child abuse. and most state agencys would agree.
Which really is too bad and is further proof The Idiots are Taking Over. I wonder what the state would say if the child was exceptionally well raised otherwise and had a vastly superior ability to think for him/herself since they have been given more to explore life for themselves.
Sure, while it probably isn't okay for people with average or less-than average children to leave them alone, for the people who have really great kids, there is nothing wrong with this.
I would think that a majority of people could find simple and practical ways of reducing their electricity usage. Most people end up being lazy, though, and revert to wasting power like they always have.
I can recall the big failure that happened in the northeast some years ago, but I certainly don't remember anything even remotely close to "several near national wide powerouts".
Actually, our facility (which was previously private non-profit, then got absorbed into govt) would take all the kids that every school district didn't want to deal with. What they do is arrive all messed up, and eventually transition back into public settings. Because the failures of other teachers and parents have already jacked these kids up before I ever met them.
Seriously, unless you've worked at a place like that, with the highest success rate of any facility in the state, you have no clue what it's like to deal with a job like that. I wasn't a teacher, I was a para, and I got paid squat to basically do the same job as the teacher, but also have to break up fights, physical restraints, ugly crap like that. I lasted a year longer than the average burnout rate, so I'd like to think I actually did a pretty damn good job while I was there.
Coyotes are not much of a threat, that is, unless you let your small children run around in open fields in the middle of the night.
They might go after cats, but in my experience, cats are pretty adept at escaping from (or not being seen) by coyotes. There is the occasional story of someone's cat getting nabbed in rural areas, but it is not common.
Besides, if you tell the public, you won't get to laugh when someone freaks out the first time they hear a pack land a kill in the middle of the night. It's actually one of the coolest sounds I've ever heard from mother nature.
While I worked at a special ed treatment facility, kids would regularly make all sorts of things out of pencils and pens. Much like the teacher in TFA, I had enough of it, and just made the kids who were guilty use crayons for writing.
Success was mixed. Some of them would be so annoyed by having to write an essay in crayon they stopped being punks. Others, however, just found other things to aid their misbehavior (water bottle projectiles, origami projectiles, etc.)
No, the speed is just fine. They simply need to improve the spam and general douchebaggery that occurs. There are simply too many leeches and lame robots that live there.
I'm more interested in a site that will do what Craigslist does, but modernized and free of all the bullshit that plagues CL. Currently, CL is akin to Mos Eisley and it doesn't appear that there have been any significant improvements in years.
When random adolescents were asked, "Is apathy and ignorance the biggest problem among American teenagers?" the typical response was, "I don't know, and I don't care."
Much like the onboard sound on my system (and I do have a decent set of Klipsch speakers from 8 years ago or so) I really don't give a crap what sound device I'm using. The last time I bought a dedicated sound device, I bought one of those cool Creative external devices for something like $80. It lasted a little over a year before it mysteriously stopped working.
If someone is coming around, snatching up money and people, instead of arguing over which is worse, you better just hide your money, hide your wife, hide your kids...
While I mostly agree, scalpers do in fact at least provide a service to the fans. There are times when a fan wants to go to a show bad enough that they will pay a hefty price. If the show is sold out, the fan's only option is to go scalpers. It's not like they can go to the venue or band themselves and say they are willing to pay 4x the cost for a ticket when no tickets remain.
I'm not saying scalpers aren't generally malevolent to others, because they are, but there are times when they come in handy.
"Fool me once, shame on you....... Fool me ya can't fool me again."
the immune system is targeting harmless compounds (allergens.)
Lmao at this statement!
Allergens are hardly harmless.

Simple, yes. Politically tricky? Obviously.

While young, the kid is still AT HOME! If there is anywhere you should be able to leave your child unattended, it is there.

They don't aready? WTF are they so busy doing?
Didn't know about this, been complaining for years. I may need to have a word with my friendly banker.
Slot machine?
Well, I can read people's facial expressions also, does this mean I only need to train myself to be a mind controller?
Confusion, indeed.
Circle of life, my friend. If you're leaving your dogs out at night, and there are coyotes around, expect what is expected.

Lesson? Kids suck.

Oblig Twain:
"A man who carries a cat by the tail learns something he can learn in no other way."
I think in this case, since you don't want to wake up your parents upstairs, the integrated option would probably be best.
When random adolescents were asked, "Is apathy and ignorance the biggest problem among American teenagers?" the typical response was, "I don't know, and I don't care."

For those not keeping up, here are the options:
1) Have your money stolen from your bank account.
2) Have the female loved ones in your life raped.
If someone is coming around, snatching up money and people, instead of arguing over which is worse, you better just hide your money, hide your wife, hide your kids...
Agreed. Phones make no sense for even the current model to be sustainable. Put a browser on the phone, point the browser to a web site. App installed.
Granted, I can see the point of having a library that simply links to a web site, but I wouldn't necessarily call that an app store.
