Take flash cards/drives instead of DVDs, and mail those home. You can use a smaller computer, they will be arguably more rugged than DVDs, and the cost, while high, is no longer that prohibitive.
Better than a reactor...
I think the concept is neat as long as they treat the surrounding environment well. Hopefully we will get some groundbreaking research and nice pictures for the rest of us!
I was going to have a witty reply for this, but my computer beat me too it sending out 50,000 e-mails about hot stock picks in the time it took me to read the comments...
I think of Slashdot as one of my prime media BS meters, and I was disappointed he was not included on the front page. To me, he is the only one saying anything interesting in the Repub party... Take transcripts of the other three, hide author names, and unless you see a phrase like "gates of hell..." odds are you could not tell who was who! I STRONGLY disagree with Paul on many social issues, and some fiscal ones, but at this point, we are in a fiscal crisis in the States, and even if the method of fixing it is way odd, we need someone who at least wants to try.
What I read stated that this was being watched because they did not like the game accompanied by a religious message. I think the screen size issue is being used a way to fight this issue without bringing it up directly.
It is hard to comprehend... Keep in mind it is the EU, not the US.;) I sure enjoy checking out the server logs to my site, if only to see that we do reach worldwide, even to bots... I can clearly identify with both sides of this issue. Honestly, you have no privacy online if you do not take certain steps, and the general public should not be shocked by this!
Hopefully if get people far enough down the ladder this would actually work. My not just flood the database with bad info? Hopefully having to sort through it would make it bad enough...
Seeing some of the people walking out of Gov offices, I think working at home might save the ones that can do it! Remote access has made me happy, not to work from home, but to be able to catch up on e-mail and stuff on something besides the blackberry... I do think you have to be careful who you let telecommute though, and keep the ability to call them in at any time. I could productivity dive if there were not some pretty draconian measures.
Exactly, the stat becomes truth by the time it is revealed as false, and no one cares. The BS gets accepted, and those crying foul are regarded as conspiracy theorists...
I think these companies are trying to do anything they can to not appear openly hostile to open source... Many have not been doing so well in that department. At least it is not a step in the wrong direction!
At least this is going to result in a big audit and will hopefully shed some light into how this really works (or does not work). I will be excited to hear about the results, and even if they go back, I am glad it is being explored...
I bet there will be some nasty digital skeletons in the closet.
The software at my employer gets manhandled by so many people that by the time it is done it never even has the same mission as when it is started. My business division gets burned time and again after all the requests from the front line get bumped out of the release candidate, and the ground troops are stuck with something that is a hinderance.
I hope some people I report to at least hear about this book...
I think this is fantastic, but only because of the massive backlash that is going to come back from universities! They have been targeting specific ones, and in many cases getting beaten back by law schools, general counsels, etc. I am going to sit back and watch with glee as the heavy hitters from academia decide the RIAA finally overstepped too much. I do feel that I have to say that I am sure many of the people on the campus networks are doing things they should not be, but this has NOTHING to do with education money.
Agreed. If these people sound like idiots and are using bad logic, we have the right to know. Part of being an official in a public agency is that you are accountable for what is going on. It seems to be that holding stuff back this only makes it a bigger deal, and the media is rabid for the info by the time it is already uncovered.
I do agree this data should stay open. They should make a larger appeal for weather data points. I would happily give them the data from a station at my home as long as I knew it would be a public information good...
Return signal strength might be able to estimate distance, but only in 2D. I do not know enough about the bluetooth standards, and the article mentioned something about cameras, but I just see this as so awkward and limited in application.
They do it with the Wii, but I think that is using accelerometers. Regardless I am still not too hot about the idea of waving my phone around. I do enough damage to them already. If this was anything like voice commands, I would probably throw the phone across the room in frustration...
Certainly better than financials... I think they do awesome work. I have been proud of the rover project, and I think the knowledge gains from NASA missions have long tails.
The entire premise of blogging to me is that the content creator is able to put an opinion out there not regulated by a publisher. I think "unionizing" bloggers is hilarious. I know everyone wants to think that what they do in their free time is important, but this is just a little out there... My blog will remain a non-union shop.
The frequency is what is needed. You would have to have more repeaters for a two way system, but it could still work very well.
I have a aircard on the CDMA network and I have been stunned with the speeds I get through the mobile provide with the Rev. A hardware. A purpose-built system not piggybacking off of the mobile network would likely be much better.
I remember getting Windows 2k on a new laptop after XP came out, by request...
Until you realize you used the wrong algorithm and the get out of the tank and start walking around your basement...

I stopped looking out for them after I insulated my first bunker with only AOL mailings...

This statement will be revised in 60 days after the manta has spread...

This is a fantastic point. On top of that, what part of bluetooth technology would be able to pin down 3D positioning?

Making this data available can be very valuable, both as a vetting process and as a way to compound knowledge. I think it is nice to at least offer.
