The point I was trying to make is that I don't really think there are any essential knowledge that the/. audience needs to have in common. I think/. has a large enough variety of articles that appeal to geeks of most kinds so that you really can't classify someone as the typical/. user. I could see someone who doesn't even know what open source (but learning quickly around here:)) coming to/. TFAs about YRO or green tech.
Of course, that does mean less sex:-(
I guess the consolation prize is more time for/. yeah, that's a mighty thin silver lining but it's the best i got:)
I've looked into cleaning lcd screens and such and almost every solution is just 50% rubbing alcohol and 50% water.
Fell free to drop those $5 on an ounce and a half of rubbing alcohol if you want but i recommend just taking a refillable water spritzer and making your own solution.
I've been using it on my equipment for several years now and I haven't noticed any problems whatsoever
ok, so if I built a scale model of the Egyptian pyramids in Kansas you would find it more valuable than the existing ruins of the originals in Egypt? All this regardless of the feat of engineering it took for them to accomplish all of this without cad programs, lasers(they had to use just sharks) etc?
Why don't they come up with the environmental criteria/requirements and state that the application submitter must complete the study and submit the findings with the application. If further study would be required, they could then investigate or push it back to the requesting company/agency.
TFA states that they are doing the study to determine these environmental criteria/requirements. Surely you can see a problem with solar companies doing that kind of research for the government. Might be a just a tad biased.
If you ever have the chance, go to Tarifa, Spain. It's one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.
The beaches are nice and wide with fine sand. It makes for a perfect place to ride wind powered boards and of course kite surfing in the ocean.
All of this wind also makes for the perfect location for windfarms. The area around Tarifa is spotted with the turbines. Honestly that was my favorite view was to stand on the beach and watch all of turbines happily spinning up on the mountains producing nice clean energy.
If I had faster internet I'd find you some links for pics.
Who is this guy to think that the market should be catering to him instead of the millions of other people who aren't as wise with computers?
I think you are confusing stupidity with ignorance which is a big mistake. Just because someone isn't wise to all of the risks and no-nos in computers doesn't mean they are stupid. How much do you know about quantum physics or hispano-arabic literature? Because you lack knowledge in a field doesn't make you stupid.
The future of computers isn't every user learning so much more about computers but computers being more and more idiotproof. And these ignorant computer users are the majority of the market so guess where things are heading.
Most highschools have AP classes for their brighter kids to help them get a leg up in university and hopefully get a few credits. As shitty as my school was with most things they did do one brilliant move that helped make up for a lot.
Dual enrollment. My highschool allowed us to take classes at the local community college that would count for highschool while simultaneously they would count as college classes. Since we had such a small school we actually managed to get the professors to come out to our school and teach a few of the classes so we wouldn't have to rearrange our class schedule or even drive over to the community college.
This obviously is only a feasible for junior/senior years but it's programs like this that I think can really help to allow the high achievers to challenge themselves and prepare for university in a meaningful way.
This is why the iphone is not the major threat everybody thinks it is. If it's not a threat (i'm personally not saying it is) then why is nokia trying to make a clone?
I don't see how nokia can hold both positions at the same time. If the iphone market is so niche it seems like it wouldn't be worth their time.
That's exactly my point. if they are pushing so many other phones and the iphone is selling so poorly in comparision why are they pushing out an iphone clone? The two ideas just seem incompatible to me.
i wanna be the first kid on the block with Stalkerbot 5000!

you're right. there goes my geek cred. I didn't know that AND i have a girlfriend.
holy shit, I am so gonna write that scifi novel!
What the hell? The editing here has just gone down hill. I mean this is ridiculous!
Everyone knows it's spelled "gefÃllt mir"
p.s. yay german girlfriend!
p.p.s. /. doesn't like foreign characters so my correction won't be exactly right but at least no one can correct me!

I assume you mean Chippendales not Chip and Dale.
There's a difference?!?! Oh God! Must cancel my son's birthday party ASAP.

Maybe (s)he is getting old and his money is starting to slip.
Geez, I bet none of you even RTFA before you posted;)

last time I checked, France was still considered part of the West.

fyi, not even the right coast
I hear they have those stationary vehicles now that don't require any power
no, it simply raises the question.
This is not a troll or flamebait. All I ask is that you teach your students correctly and save a time-honored philosophical device.
Please, think of the child

Man, I honestly believed Steve Jobs would have a lower user id.
I guess Spain isn't invited to the download day. I keep going to their page and it keeps trying to get me to download FF2 :(
Anyone else in Europe having the same problem?
p.s. yes i'm sure i could find the FF3 download somewhere but that isn't really my point.

FTFA: "Something for us that sells eight or ten million [Apple's 2008 target figure for the iPhone] wouldn't be that big a splash."
Yeah, that's why nokia keeps talking about the iphone clone they are releasing....
