They only did a half hearted attempt to show it could benefit males after they faced opposition to the campaigns they were backing that would have required all school all girls to get the vaccine. One attack angle against these campaigns was going to be that the laws requiring girls to get vaccinated are sexist. So they said "Fuck it, vaccinate boys too here's a half-assed study also we knew about the potential benefits ages ago but didn't think it would sell.".
