The crybabies protest that much of the data CAN'T be made available to people wanting to verify / replicate studies due to HIPAA. They are WRONG. The OP is a fool, a well known one here on Slashdot. But in this case it's not his fault. The vaccine was marketed only as helping females. Because that's what sells. They knew it could help males from many similar cancers caused by the same strains of HPV, but they barely explored it and sure as hell didn't market it.

They first ran ad campaigns yanking at people's heartstrings and accusing people of being bad parents if they didn't get their girls this one vaccine against certain strains of HPV which have been linked to higher rates of certain cervical cancers. Then they funded tons of efforts to require all school age girls to get the vaccine. Challengers stepped forward and were going to use, as one angle of attack, the fact that such laws would be sexist. Then they trotted out some basic info about the vaccine being safe for males, and switched their push to requiring all school age children, males and females, to be vaccinated.

Did they market the fact that they knew it had the same potential benefits for males? No, they marketed it as being the responsibility of boys to get vaccinated to protect girls.

  12. Re:Vaccine for everyone on Australia Set To 'Eliminate' Cervical Cancer By 2028 (cnn.com) · · Score: 1

Those same strains of HPV are linked to other cancers that affect men. But a vaccine against ass cancer isn't marketable.

They only did a half hearted attempt to show it could benefit males after they faced opposition to the campaigns they were backing that would have required all school all girls to get the vaccine. One attack angle against these campaigns was going to be that the laws requiring girls to get vaccinated are sexist. So they said "Fuck it, vaccinate boys too here's a half-assed study also we knew about the potential benefits ages ago but didn't think it would sell.". They spent more time on political and media campaigns than they did on anything else. I can still hear the girls chanting "One less, one less. I'm gonna be one less." as they jump rope in an obnoxious commercial.

I don't know what became of the various efforts to require the vaccine for school kids in the US. I hope they failed. This was one of the most blatant and obvious attempts by the pharmaceutical industry to write their own profits into law.

  13. Adam Driver can act perfectly fine when he has a character whose motivations aren't completely moronic. He was fine in Logan Lucky.

  14. The sales figures for the bluray (absolutely awful) reflect it.

Um, it was the best selling Blu Ray of 2018 to September: http://screencrush.com/blu-ray...

Note that the second most popular Blu Ray was Black Panther, another movie that vocal online critics claim is complete shit and a terrible, failing movie.

Why are you comparing it to other bluray releases in the same month? You need to compare it to The Force Awakens. Go ahead and try that, then get back to us.

Black Panther wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. It had tons of flaws that I still can't figure out. The bad dude's entire mission and rant is COLONIALISM BAD! BLACKS SUPPRESSED!! Okay, a bit simplistic but certainly a valid motivation for a character. As social commentary it's more than heavy handed, it's pretty much breaking the fourth wall. And he has this plan that involves using these people to FIND Wakanda, yet he ends up killing them and just traipsing on over anyway, because he didn't need them at all to FIND it. Did I miss something? Not only do you need to know the location, you need to know how to get in. It's veiled. Was it just a magic helicopter that anyone can fly? Or was it his Wakandan blood? If so, why did he need those people at all? Why not just fucking go himself like he ended up doing anyway?

The bad guy sees his shot at power and immediately turns into a colonizing tyrant hell bent on suppressing whites while still shouting about how bad it is. Was that supposed to be intentionally stupid and hypocritical? Is that the message? If so, nobody really addresses it. The best we get is some lame jokes about "another white boy for me to patch up" after some consternation about whether or not they should help the guy who saved what'sherface's life. Oh, and at the end there's a commitment from Wakanda to open up and share their technology with the world, but it comes with the smug superiority that only deus ex vibranium can provide.

If Wakanda was so secretive and isolated, and actually physically hidden, why did they have western clothing and vehicles? How did they pay for them? Why was their king out and about in foreign countries wrecking up the place fending off assassination attempts? There's supposed to be a juxtaposition between Wakanda as seen by the outside world and the technologically advanced true Wakanda. But that true Wakanda and its King are all over the outside world, influencing and impacting things while crying about how they need to remain isolated to prevent being influenced or impacted. Not only is this hypocritical bullshit the same we see from the bad guy, but it makes no logical sense. Other people would see this and say "Hey. How come Wakanda has all this shit and why are they stirring shit up over here I thought they were an undeveloped, tribal country?" or "Where'd this guy get that car or learn to drive it? They're still actively refusing our offers of food, medicine, agricultural development, etc.".

The biggest flaw, however, is vibranium. It's basically magic, but without being magic. This was more of a Harry Potter move than a super hero movie as far as the actual setting and basis. They don't attempt to explain or detail anything. Drinking up vibranium opium gives you super powers. Vibranium technology is magic and can do anything. You can disable vibranium with sound waves somehow. You may as well have Stan Lee come out and wave his hands while saying "GAMMA RADIATION" and "MUTANT POWERS" for 2 hours.

If there's someone sewing discord in America it's people like Kathleen Kennedy and Rian Johnson. These shitlords actively attacked fans and customers. They continue to double down on alienating the people who give them money when it doesn't work. Oh, the movie did poorly because we didn't listen to the fans and their concerns? Time to insult people for not "getting" that the new animated show (at a 10PM time slot) is shallow, bland shit because it's for kids. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Disney doesn't understand Star Wars. They got a freebie with The Force Awakens because people wanted new Star Wars. They got a crappy ripoff of the original with major plot holes (who the fuck is making this map and why does R2 have a missing piece of it and if you have a portion of some map/tracking data why not just start searching in in the blank areas?). Adam Driver is a bad actor. Emo Darth Vader is a terrible character. Daisy Ridley is a plank of wood. Rey isn't a terrible character, but that's only because she isn't even a character. I won't see Episode IX in the theater. I'll wait for Redbox.

  20. AV1 isn't "by" the Alliance for Open media unless it's physically beside it. It's a minor nitpick, sure.

If the "composed of" piece refers to the codec, then there should be an "and" before "composed of" to indicate that the codec is both "by..." and "composed of ...". Otherwise, it's ambiguous as to what "composed of" refers to. Alternatively, you could add a comma after "codec".

"Web" is not a proper noun. It's an adjective here, describing the type of companies. The companies are not owned by the "Web", nor do they make up the "Web".

Further, it's not the 90s and we don't need to capitalize internet or web, just like we don't need to say "electronic mail". Unless you're talking about a very specific thing (e.g., in relation to Internet2) the proper nouns aren't involved. This article was not talking about the official, proper noun "World Wide Web".

And the Britishism I was referring to was not license, but "patents". I could just hear the jackass pronouncing it with a long "a". An American would say "patent license" or "patent licenses" as we are referring to the type of license or licenses. The quantity is not applied to the adjective "patent". But the British love that shit. Hell, we can't get them to drop the "s" when abbreviating "mathematics".

  21. Woosh

  22. AV1 is a new video codec by the Alliance for Open Media, composed of most of the important Web companies (Google, Facebook, Netflix, Amazon, Microsoft,...).

I would have added "developed" or "written" or "created" before "by", but whatever, I'm busy figuring out how a codec is composed of "most of the important Web companies" or why we're capitalizing "Web".

AV1 has the potential to be up to 20% better than the HEVC codec, but the patents license is totally free, while HEVC patents licenses are insanely high and very confusing.

I'm going to give you a pass on the unexplained "better", and "the patents license" may be an awful Britishism that I'll ignore (for now), but if the HEVC "patents licenses" are "insanely high", isn't that a problem? Are they going to go out and announce that they're taking HEVC public at $420?

The reference decoder for AV1 is great, but it's a research codebase, so it has a lot to improve.

I'd throw in "based on" or "compiled against" before "a research codebase", and probably throw in an "on" after improve (or rewrite it so there's no preposition at the end of a sentence, though I never found that to be a logical rule). However, the big concern here is that you're calling the reference decoder "great" while simultaneously saying that it isn't.

Therefore, the VideoLAN, VLC and FFmpeg communities have started to work on a new decoder, sponsored by the Alliance of Open Media. The goal of this new decoder is: be small, be as fast as possible, be very cross-platform, correctly threaded, libre and (actually) Open Source.

You shouldn't be capitalizing "Open Source" here, and something being "very cross-platform" doesn't really fit, unless you're talking about a waffling politician. Can we at least agree on quantity, though? You've listed more than one goal. You want "goals" and "are".

Without further due, the code: https://code.videolan.org/vide...

If you're providing value (economic, industrial, agricultural, etc. etc.) to the world on a scale that justifies it, then yes, it's cool.

  25. You need to upgrade your birding knowledge.

If you never got fucked, you can't be a cuckold. The whole point is that you already have a nest, with some eggs in it.

And a different bird (the cuckoo) comes and lays its egg in your nest when you're not looking. Everybody got fucked the same number of times. (once) Birds that didn't get fucked didn't stay to take care of a nest, and didn't get cuckolded.

Same with humans. You can't normally cuckold somebody who isn't getting any. The cuckoo is always second fiddle. It is important that the cuckold is getting fucked too, so that they'll stay in the nest and take care of the brood.

Broods parasites who attempt to parasitize individuals without a brood are unlikely to be very successful. The same is true for fetishists; you can't effectively role-play a cuck if you're not already fucking somebody. It is a 2+1 game.

You're not very well informed on human cucks and how they operate.
