How can you trust a browser that intentionally doesn't show you what you asked for? You have no idea if you're getting what you're supposed to be getting when you go to *any* page. This is exceeding unprofessional, and violate everything that a browser is supposed to do.
I guess that's the point they were trying to get across.
With Linux you can choose not to install any of the "bundled" apps very easily. Can you choose not to install MSIE? I don't know about the rest (since I've never installed XP), but Microsoft pretty much has a final word on what you may or may not install in Windows.
...Slashdot's own Roblimo! And linked to from Slashdot. Wow. A Slashdot editor posts a link to an article by another Slashdot editor from Slashdot. It'd be funnier if Roblimo submitted it:)
Stylish? Stylish? You mean the big, colorful plastic looking WinXP buttons? You call that stylish? To quote a reviewer on the web (I forget where from):
The Windows XP interface looks like some kid ate a box of crayons and threw up on the screen.
First Linux on one space shuttle. Then on all of them. Who knows, one day Linux may power all space vehicles. Maybe perhaps it will even be installed on FTL starship computers someday. When that day comes, we can finally say that... Linux is ready for the Enterprise.
In the case of Debian, it was simply controlling an experiment in the shuttle, whereas now it's being tested as part of the communications system for the ship itself.
BTW, that astronaut lady looks cute. Too bad they couldn't get a better picture of her.
True, any distro of Linux isn't quite at the XP level not needing to use the command-line, but it's starting to head in that direction. And if more and more companies and, more importantly, governments start to actively look at switching, there will be a big boom in eliminating the command-lind dependence.
We can take a look at Mac OS X. A Unix-based OS which is very pretty indeed, and yet the power of the command line is always available to those who are obsessively in love with command lines (like me).
We don't need to make Linux a Windows clone. We can make it better, but providing power tools to those who can use it, unlike the castrated equivalents found in Windows.
I wonder why the command prompt is so maligned though. Seems like an M$ thing.
Slack has always been alive. Slackers aren't as...ehem...vocal as users of other distros but believe me we're alive and kicking.
If you've noticed, Slackware has always been a profitable company. It may not be as big as Redhat or Mandrake, but its got its own share of very loyal users.
Aren't there any OSes about at the moment that are like all redundant and correctness-proven and stuff, like with NASA-like failure margins? Wouldn't it be better to be using those instead?
IIRC, Linux was used on some space shuttle. Does anyone remember that story?
Hey, that's a new slashdot topic icon! An event to celebrate! It's not every day we see a new topic icon.
I don't think you can purchase a release candidate
After we identify a dangerous asteroid... we send Bruce Willis up to nuke it?
A project like this is more worth my time than modding X-Boxes (which are too pricey outside of the US).

No problem there. Microsoft bought evil from Satan remember?

I've heard of giFT, but how easy is it to find stuff on that network?
Didn't Locutus try to destroy Enterprise? And Enterprise tried to destroy Locutus too. Hrmmm... Sleep Data, sleep...

stylish consistent GUI for a reasonable price?

Is it stylish because Microsoft made it?
Ok, let's all move to Europe :)
Sounds like how you would threaten an evil sysadmin:
RELEASE HIM OR I SHALL CUT YOU OFF ROOT!
I guess Gollum was a Unix sysadmin back in the day. Which would explain why he's a shruken, miserable little creature who hates sunlight.

Some of these games got the "best game" of a particular category because they are the only game in that particular category :)
Funny, Macs used to be faster than Pentii
Pentii? Pentii??? And I thought the term virii was annoying.
Outside a firewall for no apparent reason is a tool
You probably meant fool, but tool sort of makes sense too. An idiot like that is the perfect tool for evildoers everywhere to take advantage of! Heh.

They cloned a sheep first. Does this mean there'll be a ruling hierarchy? Sheep->Cats->People

Being a minority distro, it's quite nice to meet kindred souls in forums.
Keep on slackin' friends.
Hemos is an international open-source legend? Uh...

I've seen it more than once each time my Linux-Sparc kernel panics. It does have a sort of soothing effect though, unlike the BSOD :)
