The final ASCII version is also produced by hand. After two rounds of proofing, the text gets into a queue. From that queue, a 'post-processor' checks it out and reformats it according to the Gutenberg guidelines, along with any error corrections that might still be necessary. Then she or he uploads the final version to Project Gutenberg, where the 'whitewashers' check the text yet again before posting it to the archive.

About the XML: You are in fact welcome to produce an XML version, I believe some fellows at DP indeed do that already. However, the main version is the simple text version, since you can read that with everything. But nothing keeps you from also posting an XML or PDF or TeX or whatever version.

I mean, Goth is something that sprung up long after July 1983, right?

    Wrong.

The godfathers of goth-rock were British post-punkers Joy Division, whose bleak, remote, obsessively introspective music and lyrics laid the initial foundation for goth. But for all intents and purposes, the true birth of goth rock was "Bela Lugosi's Dead," the 1979 debut single by Bauhaus. Already chilly post-punk outfits like the Cure and Siouxsie & the Banshees became full-on goth bands around the same time, and their heavy, menacing makeup and dark clothes became an important part of their fans' expression.

An argument that improperly assumes as true the very point the speaker is trying to argue for is said in formal logic to "beg the question." Here is an example of a question-begging argument: "This painting is trash because it is obviously worthless." The speaker is simply asserting the worthlessness of the work, not presenting any evidence to demonstrate that this is in fact the case. Since we never use "begs" with this odd meaning ("to improperly take for granted") in any other phrase, many people mistakenly suppose the phrase implies something quite different: that the argument demands that a question about it be asked--raises the question. If you're not comfortable with formal terms of logic, it's best to stay away from this phrase, or risk embarrassing yourself."

Give me htp and a good text editor and I got you a complete website sooner than you figure out how to handle Amaya's incredibly cumbersome interface.

With the advent of structured markup from the XML family, graphical HTML editors seem to become superfluous - you put a logical structure into the text and have it presentated by another file, the style sheet. There's no reason why that should require any form of WYSIWYG editing, especially since all the WYSIWYG editors I know suck at handling style sheets, let alone creating them properly. They are handy when prototyping, but after that, a script can do the same job in one tenth of a time.
