While most everything you say is true and most likely won't be replaced; you have to remember that this guy is a manager type in some advertising company and is possibly quite rich. We all know that the rich buy more expensive and useless shit, simply because they can afford it. Another approach is that all this stuff is not likely to be around in 15yrs, but what about 100? IF we can all learn to get along, deflect global destroying asteroids, rid the world of religion and a few other minor adjustments(some having to do with resource usage) then I think we shall be around for a very long time and this future may be possible. Now, I am off to go build a self-sustaining cryogenic chamber so I can be re awakened when it all arrives. :D

FiOS was my whole deciding factor when I moved. My one place had Time Warner Cable and they were just awful. Cutting out between 11pm and 2-3am at least 3-4 nights a week and my online time was between 10p and 2a. So yes, it pissed me off quite a bit when I was paying 50$ for 15Mbit service and not even being able to use it. There was no one else to get internet from and Time Warner's excuse month after month was they were upgrading. Which was bullshit. I think that is their default response to constantly shitty service.
When my lease was up I specifically looked for a place that had FiOS. I found one, have been there 3yrs and I had one hiccup about a year ago. It was the router and if I unplugged and plugged back in it would work for 20min. Did that for 2 days until I got the new one and haven't had a problem since.

Hex should be reserved for a Programming 101 class. In my 24yrs of doing tech work, not once has a need to view something HEX come up. Only when I go out of my way and want to modify programs to change their expiration date, the ability to unlock the SAVE button, bypass the CD/DVD check or even give myself more time on a level in a game has HEX ever come into play. Joe User isn't doing that. Joe User wants to play games, work on a project from home in Office, print his tax returns or a sales order for his home business.
