The ISPs and the content providers are currently in disagreement as to who should pay to upgrade the network infrastructure..
Jesus. Lemmy draw you a diagram:
Customer <-----> ISP <----> Internet
Do you see what's between the customer and the Internet? The ISP *controls* *each* of its users' Internet connections. If they can't handle the traffic that the customer is pulling through them, then the ISP can -if needed- stop that traffic... dead. Do you understand that? Do you understand the *implications* of that?
Saying that there is a "disagreement" between "the ISPs and the content providers" about payment for network upgrades is like saying that I, John Q. Blogger, have to pay Comcast to upgrade its infrastructure so people can get to my wildly popular blog on fruiting plants. That's not how it works. Comcast's customers pay Comcast for bandwidth and physical plant maintenance and upgrades. I pay my blog's hosting provider for the same thing. If one or both of those entities is unable get the job done with the money that they're being paid, they need to reduce the level of service, charge more, or get out of the business.
...I happen to know that most modular crypto libraries out there take modules with nearly identical APIs to the sample implementations.... A blind onion could make the marginal changes needed.
The marginal changes need to... what? Create a new crypto module? Sorry for not understanding. I'm a blind onion.:(
Still think those libertarians are a bunch of nuts?
A little bit, yes. Completely unregulated markets *would* be all bailout, all the time... for the rich and powerful. A likely outcome of Libertarian market policies would be a world of overpriced goods where the state of the art hasn't advanced in decades.:( People suck.
It's hard to have a voice-activated Google-Earth-running warstumbling device that's *not* a reasonably powerful laptop. I don't mind lugging my laptop in my oversized backpack.:)
What do you think about throwing away sperm or egg? Is it only when they are combined into a potential human that disposal becomes contentious? If so, in the PP's world, *every* wart has the potential to be a human. How -then- is disposal of a wart different from disposal of a fertilized egg?
It won't nuke your box if you have a properly configured system.
Try running 'ulimit -u'. You might be surprised.
*sigh*
You missed the PP's point. Lemmy boil it down for you: "Why pay $50 per month for a million channels when there's nothing on?".

This guy's style is offensive, but he's telling truth. Apple has *no* excuse for shipping updates that break their hardware.
*sigh* :/
I wish that I had mod points for you.
There are lots of 19-inch monitors with 1280x1024 native resolution.
This just *rankles*. Where *are* the friggin' commodity 300dpi displays, man?! Why aren't they *HERE*? :(
Meh. :/
That doesn't excuse the *rest* of the entire industry forgetting *everything* the mainframe folks learned.
With this, expect P2P to move to dynamic DNS.
That would be *incredibly* slow.
Hey.
I'm not in the NYC area. :(
Thanks for the extra info, though.
Defeating botnets is possible in theory (you need passive fingerprinting and end-system auditing capabilities...
Hell, you don't need all that! All you *really* need is clueful users! You kids... always goin' around overcomplicating things.
WAT?
Why do we need to kill the dumb ones? Who would be left to serve us fried foods?
You seem to be a chatbot. I'm not sure how you got onto slashdot, but welcome!

Sorry for not understanding. I'm a blind onion.
Unfortunately, this is often too hard for your users.
We need to grow smarter users.
Are you saying that you configure your RAP servers to only allow access over loopback to root, or for all users?
http://./.././
Filler for the filter.
SHUT UP, YOU!
JUST SHUT UP!
*points gnarled finger, glares*
(I don't wanna be old anymore.) :/
There's this new thing that you might wanna try out... it's called FM radio. You can get music and news for free, wirelessly!
Still think those libertarians are a bunch of nuts?

OH GAWD YES!
*proceeds to enthusiastically fellate this heroic AC*
*shrug*
And I'm a 100% Asus user. I've purchased two boards from em in the past ten or twelve years and have had no problems with them.
There's probably something going on there that our limited sample sizes will never allow us to figure out.
Negatory!
Slashdotters can't read!
It's hard to have a voice-activated Google-Earth-running warstumbling device that's *not* a reasonably powerful laptop. :)
I don't mind lugging my laptop in my oversized backpack.
And that IS screwing with nature.
Okay...
Look, if we all screened all of our embryos to hold up to our popular standards of beauty...
Do you see what you did there? You just went off the rails. This paragraph has nothing to do with the first. :D
