You know, everyone is pointing to this inflation thing.
When you cite inflation, which is by and large a made up number... maybe you should give some examples of inflationary products.
10 years later, My tires still cost the same. Bread is still the same water is still the same I can still get t-shirts for the same price.
So, which items have inflated?
Right, so why should we say that we are neglecting inflation on CD prices. We're not, there would be $0 inflation on such an item.
Thus, the price should have gone down much more significantly than it did and what has happened as it was stated before, production costs went down, profit margin went up... and all rejoiced. Well, everyone that was enjoying that profit margin.
We knew all about this last year. It was on the front page of every paper and the lead story on the TV news. Unless the emails in question were written after October 2010, is there anything new?
Everything evolves. You must be new to this species.
FTFY. "Evolve" means "to undergo gradual change" and does not imply getting "better" (or "worse").
Really? Are you confident you know what evolution is? I'm pretty sure a planet full of species, would be willing to disagree with your non-scientific assertion.
-AI
fwiw, I think you made a common mistake and confused the definition of evolution with the definition of evolution of species. And I only made this post since you did say, species.
Not to suggest she knew anything about diamonds, but the price for a 3 carat ring can vary a lot depending on its quality and source. A $16,000 3 carat ring is going to look pretty shoddy, even to a someone that doesn't know much about what to look for. Maybe she just figured that he got it at a pawn shop or that it was fake.
I was thinkin that too, right? That's pretty cheap for a 3ct diamond, by itself... but set? I remember a 1ct VVS1 D that lightened my pocket for +6.5k, I was like, are you kidding? Then I was told the supersize was more than double that.
Please don't buy diamonds people.
If you want to buy an engagement ring, 1) Marry someone smart enough that you can explain the following to them... 2) Diamonds are not rare, they are scooped out of the earth millions of carats at a time each year [ http://www.infomine.com/minesite/Ekati.html ] 3) Rubies and Emeralds [good ones, non-blood] are far more rare and beautiful 4) Diamonds are worthless as an investment, if you don't believe me, try to sell one.
Try bringing a nice size emerald to a jeweler and watch the salivation begin. Ever see the "bling" watches? What are they pave with? 2ct of diamonds, that are 2pt in size? Those 100 diamonds are probably worth... $20-$30. Ever see one of those bling watches pave with rubies or emeralds? You won't. Or if they do use ruby, it'll be synthetic. Or worse, color treated sapphire. [yes, I know ruby and sapphire "are the same", however, ruby is considerably more rare]
And for the dbags that say they will never buy a ring. You're a complete douche man... she's got family and friends. Do you want her to have to explain to every single one of them that you're not cheap, you're just principled? Spend $250... buy a ring.
I guess you missed the part that the boyfriend (and girlfriend) recently visited the victims house. So what's more likely, the boyfriend stole the ring, or that after his visit, a junkie broke in, stole the ring, traded it to a drug dealer, who then traded it for a car stereo, who then sold it to the boyfriend (who was recently at the victims house).
A more likely idea: Maybe they both bought identical rings from a TV advertisement. If you call in the next 10 minute, you can purchase this $12,000 ring for a mere $19.95 (plus shipping and handling). But wait, there's more. If you act now, you will also receive this set of Ginzu knifes, a pocket fisherman, and a portable bottle opener. This amazing offer is limited to the first 100,000 callers, so act now.
Occam's Razor says the second paragraph is what happened.

Ahh, maybe you should study Buddhism a bit more, no supernatural here... [some divisions of Buddhism don't accept the reincarnation thing] and no cool stories to tell kids on Sunday. And no one tells you how to think. It's just, do no harm and help others.
But still, good on helping others. And if you don't need to accept a religion to feel that way (you might want to look up the definition of religion however...) that's great!

I've gotten such severely infected systems that I spend the greater part of my weekend cleaning said infections and uninstalling malware only to pop in a couple spare sticks of RAM or an old video card (where there was once only on-board video). Why? Because I like the people around me and I like to make sure the quality of life is good... if not better than what it was. Seriously. I care about my friends and coworkers and friends of coworkers and coworkers of friends. If they need help and I can help them, I'm going to do it.
Just remember to do a full write-up of all the actions you did:

Put that write-up on the desktop and give a mini-presentation to the owner before they retake the computer. I've always wondered whether or not land speed records would be better if your craft was only allowed to gain traction off the ground . Similarly with water speed records. Else, as you say, it's simply a case of keeping a rocket in near-constant contact with the ground. The vehicles certainly wouldn't look like rockets with pram wheels...

Take it a step further (which some NFL team will), and get a good video game (i.e., simulation) that includes the stats on all the players on both the home and opposing teams, and run lots of plays in the week before the game to see which ones tend to work better than usual with the expected lineups.
You're joking right?
So, what you are saying is an NFL team that makes MILLLLLIONS of DOLLARS, is going to buy a (few hundred dollar) gaming console to teach their players?
Here, let me fix that for you.
Take it a step further and with the price dropping on supercomputers and the rise of GPGPU processing, some NFL teams will hire the programmers of the best games out there to create simulations in a virtual environment, distilling every game against every other team into just a few sets of plays that will work effectively.
The printing press put millions of scribes out of work, because machines could do the same job. Of course we still needed scribes (later renamed secretaries) --- just not as many.

I'm a musician. It costs a lot more than $1 to make a song, so selling for $1 seems like a concession to me.
And yet, you gave up the opportunity to tell us exactly
how much it costs you, why, and how much you get
from the 'music industry'.
So, cmon back... we're curious.

Invest in stable, predictable products that provide a reasonable rate of return over a lifetime. One year is get-rich-quick talk.
Oooh, you mean like houses? Oh wait, that won't work.
Real Estate? uh, negative there...
Bank investments. Hmmm, this is harder than it looks.

Which predictable products are you talkin about again?

And your link had exactly ZERO to do with the release of these docs. Good Job.

Now, if you are shady, you can do what is called "Naked Short Selling", in which you perform this trick with assets that don't actually exist.
Oh, you mean like taking value out of your house in the form
of a HELOC to fund the short?
Hey wait a minute, if everyone did that, wouldn't that cause
some kinda economic crisis?
-AI
My Serta fund has been consistently outperforming most of my other investments for the past several years.
