"When we found out that the show has been cancelled we were surprised because there is a huge fan base for the show and it has a large online following too. Many of us watch the show with friends and believe it has vast quantitiys of potential and has an almost never ending amount of fresh possiblitiys."
Fox would probably take the petetion more seriously if it wasn't written so poorly. Run-on sentences, typographical errors, and misspelled words take away credibility from an otherwise noble cause.
also note that for the last two years, defcon was paid for by it's sister, black hat...a $1000 a head conference.
BSDCon is in a MUCH nicer hotel than Defcon, and includes such things as the dinner. Last year, they took a dinner cruise ship around the SF Bay, free of charge to attendee's. This year, the dinner is at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, again, free for attendee's. Not to mention the fact they give out goodie bags, serve 2 meals a day, and have a free beer bash.
Metallica said during the Yahoo chat that they always have, and continue to encourage fans to bootleg and trade (not sell) the recordings. They added that there problem with Napster was the bootlegging of their master recordings that was a financial hit to them. My question to Metallica is how they feel on LIVE MP3's of them, wouldn't this be just the same as taped concerts which they support? Cracking down on Napster also discourages the trade of the bootlegged concerts they themselves support. sqweak
Welcome to the media infatuation. Try going to something like defcon and feeling normal. I always see the reporters running around and think of "The Crocodile Hunter" (that wacky australian on the discovery channel). They might as well be saying "Observe the Geek in the wild, watch as he attempts to mate. Now I'm going to stick my thumb up his buttocks without pissing him off" Basically, we're getting all that damn press that Gen Xers got last decade, I just can't wait until they companies start exploiting once sacred things (even more so than now).
You seem to be missing the point. Darwin is open source, MacOS X runs on top of darwin. In order for MacOS X to support pc hardware, someone would have to write drivers. That someone doesn't have to be apple, because it's open source pretty much any BSD developer could help out. This will have to be done in order for Darwin to run on x86. Therefore, it's not that much of a stretch to see MacOS X on x86 hardware. The release plan as of last october at FreeBSDCon was to release darwin and continue updating it as a seperate open source project in conunction with OS X. For the corporate apple world, they got the full package. For the open source fans, they get Darwin w/ the apple gui replaced by an eventual port of XF86. (this is done, and was slashdotted a month or so ago.) Looks like things are progressing nicely for a full darwin environment on x86. sqweak
Original wording was that units shipped after the 20th would no longer be able to be modified. People who had unit's shipped after the 20th have confirmed nothing has changed. There is buzz now that unit's manufactured after the 20th may be protected, but as was said in a previous message, to implement a change within a week would have to be small and easily beaten. check i-opener-linux for the latest news on the new protection.
The "rebate" is not a "rebate" or a "refund". It is an instant credit and the documentation from best buy as well as my experience warrents it as such. When you check out, they take 400 off the purchase price. Period. This is considered a loan under california law, and MS can therefore not require you to repay it. I will be experimenting with this tonight to see exactly what happens. I will let you know of my purchases and results.
You sir, are on crack. I paid $50 for the BeOS Bundle at Best Buy just yesterday. It goes for almost 80 on the website, and is a "$105 value". I dunno if you've checked lately, but M$'s OSes sure don't retail for 50 bux with a high quality book bundled in.
