I, being the information junkie I am, have read fairly extensively into this whole thing and have found some interesting information. The key thing is that all the really crazies seem to latch on to things like this and give it a bad name. The Mayans did not predict the end of the world, only the end of an age. In their thinking, there are basically cosmic seasons in the form of every 25k years. Also in their viewpoint, all previous transitions of ages were relatively catastrophic, but by no means end of the world. On top of all this, there happen to be a lot of coincidences scientifically with the date. The primary ones I have seen are the alignment of the planets on the galactic plane, and the best theory I read was that the potential for magnetic changes on the sun could make it a flurry of activity or the opposite. Im no scientist, but I gleaned past the hype and saw some good facts that at the least are interesting. Regardless, its not the end of the world, but it is also not the completely ridiculous y2k idea either (y2k = no scientific basis).
I just thought of something... What if the company who developed the paint had this story ready (bribing of researchers) to release right after they announced their paint. Instant interest/sales increase...stroke of genius!
I dont know who to mod UP? Fuck, well I guess I'll just post and save the mod points for something that I actually have some chance in hell of influencing. Fuck you all Corporate Trans-National Business Bending to Like minded Office managemant fucktards. (caps = FACT BLO)
Please note the excessive amount of libation I have participated in (I have now run out of beer and am sipping 1800 Repasado Tequila) while trying to sound even slightly intellectual. Your one word response deserves nothing more than a..."English, do you speak it motherfucker?!"
Or, Like the rest of the mindless babble who went to college to learn how to teach English, you simply learned the modern day equivalent of what was appropriate in the context of what you are expecting. That is to say, you a merely a pawn in the game of the universe, a slight soldier who will at a whim of the powerful say x-y=x and a-b=n. I had professor once upon a time who was more than aware of the intention and overall intellectual position on a subject despite grammatical errors. When he would correct me it would be because of lack of empirical evidence or supporting arguments or counter-arguments. What you speak of is basic common English, which whether you like it or not changes over years, decades, and centuries. Grammar is not nearly as important as matter in any context or situation worth noting. how many authors have had no editors? Just because I write a book of philosophy that is grammatically incorrect but possibly deeply insightful doesn't not make it any less important. Despite all my ramblings, grammar is still a core building block of good writing, but not necessarily a strict requirement. I say all this after about 7 Guiness at happy hour with the boss, and 3 pints of Three Philosophers' Ale afterwards. I challenge you to find the same spirit in all your writing AND speaking, for the good of the human race! Good day! ROFLMAOBBQ11!!!!
I havent seen anyone else say this yet, so here goes. What happened to me was that I learned at a young age to write in cursive, and what ended up happening was that within a year or two I had so many complaints from teachers that my handwriting was so messy that I should learn how to print. Which I did. Now, I just happen to have very sloppy handwriting, and a couple years later I was told to start using cursive... I feel that a school systems time would be better spent teaching cursive and print young, and then letting a person decide what they want to use. I ended up just having to take my time when writing or even in print it would become unreadable, the problem being that my ideas form faster in my head and I was basically just trying to scribble as fast as to not loose the next thing I was thinking of. I have seen it both ways, and though I don't think cursive is necessarily good, it should be a choice, and by choice I mean it should be taught at some point so that a person can decide later.
First of all, it sounds like your just hating on the trolls, but becoming one yourself. Now, I could be wrong, but a quick google turns up http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/07/11/obama.netroots/index.html which says he did vote for the bill that gives the ability for all cases to be dismissed if they provide a letter from the government. Do you really think any Big Telco isnt going to be able to get one of those letters? So maybe he did'nt vote for the actual immunity bill, but he quickly changed stances in the middle of his campaign. Furthermore, beyond this entire discussion, I am sick and tired of the Obama Haters AND Defenders. When are you all going to realize that ALL (maybe an abnormal blip excepted) are corrupt, greedy, fickle, liars. They will do whatever they can at the local, state, and federal levels to gain more power, more money, and more influence. When it gets down to it, all you people arguing about obama are the equivilent of people arguing over who gets the last coke while the titanic is sinking. I'm not saying I have any answers on how to make things better, as I have generally lost all faith in the human race, but at least drop the pretense and wake up. Have a nice day.
If the parent douchebag would have read what the person hes aiming this at was talking to, he would have realized it was sarcasm to point out the others idiocy... talk about woosh...
At my Uni, they charge mid level state tuition, but tack on over 2500+ dollars worth of "fees", all not including books. Using the GI Bill I was not even able to cover school costs, much less living and school. That's why now I suggest to my siblings (2 are about to go to college) that they first get a two year with a community college that works with the college they really want to go to, and then to transfer. If you graduate from a Uni after transferring from a community college, it doesn't say "Transferee" or "Only spent two years here" its just the same as if you spent that 17k extra on school.
Since there have been a number of recent updates to GMOD (a Half-Life 2 open sandbox "game" where you can create just about anything you can think of within the limits of the physics/materials/models) came out I have played with it everyonce in a while and find it very fun to take ideas I've had in the past and try to make them and try to find out how well they would work. I think the potential is there for very easy and semi-realistic prototype and R&D type building to go on, the poor mans NASA testbed! I have seen and made many designs, and one that I keep coming to is some sort of all terrain vehicle (I am a ATV and Jeep guy that loves off roading) and many of my designs have looked very similar to the ATHLETE. One thing I think those scientist types could use is some real world off-roading/rocking experience. Anybody can just rumble across rough terrain, the important part is to do it A) without breaking anything or putting yourself at an extreme risk/reward ratio, and B)Do it well enough that it actually becomes "smooth". Off roading is all about wheel-placement and physics estimation combined with experience. If my wheelbase is X long and my approach/departure angles are B and this incline is Y steep, should I attack it straight or at an angle, etc. Anyway, now I'm just rambling but I would give a left nut to have the funding to be able to create some of my off-roading ideas in real life, so its really cool to get to see other people able to, till then back to GMOD.
Oh yeah, a much better article on Wired! Despite the bad link and very short summary, it is still an important issue. They key is that they say "Ideally, when searching a computerâ(TM)s hard drive, the government should cull the specific data described in the search warrant, rather than copy the entire drive, the San Francisco-based appeals court ruled. When thatâ(TM)s not possible, the feds must use an independent third party under the courtâ(TM)s supervision," So basically, they had a warrant for 10 drug results, but happened to find 104 results, and took them all. This ruling is a good one in my eyes. Now, they keyword I see there is "ideally", which seems to mean it could be stretched both ways by a smart lawyer, but still overall good stuff.
I agree completely with you. I absolutely love *nix all around, but the issue for me is that after a long day of working on computers (albiet usually windows) I get a bit burnt out on actually working on my home machine. So I play games (and also fancy myself quite the level designer for FPS's) *nix still has quite a long way to go before games work well, and that includes *nix and the game developers, both have to work together if they want anything substantial to work. Simply put, make every steam game work on *nix, and I would completely drop windows in a heartbeat.
Since most you other fucks just make some sort of quip with no facts, (yeah yeah, i know it slashdot) here is the wikipedia entry for DX11.
"Microsoft unveiled Direct3D 11 at the Gamefest 08 event in Seattle, with the major scheduled features including GPGPU support, tessellation[11][12] support, and improved multi-threading support to assist video game developers in developing games that better utilize multi-core processors.[13] Direct3D 11 will run on Windows Vista, Windows 7, and all future Windows operating systems. Parts of the new API such as multi-threaded resource handling can be supported on Direct3D 9/10/10.1-class hardware. Hardware tessellation and Shader Model 5.0 will require Direct3D 11 supporting hardware.[14] Microsoft has since released the Direct3D 11 Technical Preview.[15] Direct3D 11 is a strict superset of Direct3D 10.1 - all hardware and API features of version 10.1 are retained, and new features are added only when necessary for exposing new functionality. Microsoft have stated that Direct3D 11 is scheduled to be released to manufacturing in July 2009,[16] with the retail release coming in October '09"
Seems pretty big to me. The thing I see being the biggest is the work on improving multithreading/multicore support, and the whole GPGPU thing. Not to mention that the API will be very compatiable with older cards (read: no real need to upgrade cards just yet)
The summary jump to the conclusion that "is made with a process that traditionally uses fossil fuels" to "emits carbon dioxide" , albeit without saying the latter? Wouldn't the more effecient thing to do be to figure out a way to make cement without using traditional methods requiring fossil fuels? I guess nowadays anything you call green and make sound even close to like it helps the environment makes the hippies happy and business believe you..sigh...
To give them time to photoshop (NSA edition) out the A) Hole that shows the earth is really hollow, or B) the giant alien spacecraft with a military installation next to it. Your pick.
But between this and Google OS and everything else, google is getting dangerously capable of mass information collection for nefarious purposes (read: more than is currently possible). Ive been willing enough to forgive the search engine because of its usefulness, but I see Google as the biggest potential data mining operation in the world. Have an OS, web search, email, chat, and voice all have the central management of one company who for all we know could have been served on of those secret orders they cant even talk about that all data mussed be passed on to some crazy orwellian agency. Not saying its true, but it makes you wonder...now I'm off to finish building my patented alaskan off-the-grid living structure called an igloo.

Ahh the glory that is bugmenot.com. Only in a handful of cases have I found a pay site without a login on there.
I posted this very article, http://yro.slashdot.org/story/09/08/19/1626217/Wired-Writer-Disappears-Find-Him-and-Make-5k?art_pos=2. Looks like someone spends too much time working and not enough time on /.! Get off my lawn!
