You must have a pretty small music collection!

As a proud member of the no-fly list, at least I don't have to put up with bozo Nazi stooges wiping their blue gloves all over me. They will never touch me and if their bozo VIPR squad tries to stop me on the highway, I will run over them. tiocfaidh ár lá Oglaigh na hEireann

But the police did not seize the hard drives but simply ordered them destroyed. Did the Gestapo check to see if this was Snowden's computer? The absurdity of this is barely comprehensible. The next step will be to shoot the reporters to present the spread of this information unless the Limeys have developed a neuralyzer. tiocfaidh ár lá

  7. Another abuse by the feds. on Former Student Gets Year In Prison For College President Election Fraud · · Score: 1

What! He used a computer to commit a crime and didn't get the death penalty? Seriously, a year in prison is gross overkill for this stunt. A hefty fine would be much more appropriate assuming that he only rigged a meaningless election. The feds have much more important things to do like run guns across the border, spy on citizens and close down marijuana dispensaries. . tiocfaidh ár lá

That is a remarkable claim and one that rarely (never?) stands up under good double-blind testing conditions. You might want to read a paper by Meyers and Moran at this link: http://drewdaniels.com/audible.pdf

Please note that the British did far more than take land from the Irish. The have basically been committing genocide against the Irish for nearly a 1000 years. Even recently, they have been working with the criminal orange order to Kill Irish nationalists so whatever problems the Irish might be for the British, it is only a minuscule payback. BTW, my support for Irish nationalists has landed me on the no-fly list so I don't worry about the silly TSA rules. Tiocfaidh ár lá

Actually, they were 512X512 displays. I was in the development group that produced them. The memory feature seemed fantastic at the time since computer memory was core but of course dynamic ram soon eliminated that advantage and the displays would also burn-in. It seems that burn-in still exists. :-(

Be glad that you are not a supporter of Irish nationalism. The Brits can take us any time they want and US courts can't intervene. We all know what a bunch of butchers the Brits have been throughout history. They are just as bad as the Nazis but much less efficient. Oh, and don't try to get on an airplane. Lets rearm the IRA and have them take the miserable bloodsucking limeys!!! But as they say in Ireland, Tiocfaidh ar la!

The MIT code was distributed through DECUS (the original open source?!) and one of the engineers ported it so that it would work on the first 512X512 Plasma panel. I know that seems tiny now but it was the largest available flat screen panel at the time.

  14. Re:Ridiculous given viewing distances and screen s on 33 MegaPixel TV in 2015 · · Score: 1

Well stated! It might also be pointed out that getting decent content even at the current HDTV resolution may be a problem. Some standard DVDs look pretty poor in terms of poor focus and noise. Better processing can fix some of the problems but it is not clear that there will be much benefit for releasing many movies beyond the current HD technology.

  15. Re:"Suddenly"? on Vinyl Gets Its Groove Back · · Score: 1

Actually, vinyl has great difficulties achieving an SNR of 70 dB. CD SNR is over 90 dB and actually exceeds the SNR of real-world recordings. The main reason recording studios use 24 bit converters (that only really only provide about 20 real bits) is so they don't have to be careful about gain settings when recording. Musicians tend to be very inconsistent when recording. The higher resolution converters allow lower gain settings to be used and still achieve sufficient resolution. Its easy enough to show that CDs easily outperform LPs. Just record an LP to a CD using a decent sound card and see if you can tell the difference in a double-blind test.

  17. Re:A pox on both their houses on Sony Calls Current Blu-ray/HD DVD Format War a 'Stalemate · · Score: 1

May I suggest that you visit a good optometrist or get a decent HDTV. The difference between NTSC and HDTV on a good HD set is night and day. Even standard DVDs are vastly better on an HDTV set but not as good as an HD TV broadcast. I can't comment on the difference between HD and BR DVDs since I have not seen either but it would not be surprising if the quality differences were small.
