Plus, wouldnt a setup like this have to have a graceful failure system in the event of power loss so you arent slamming a few thousand tons of maglev train onto your long run of coils every time theres an unavoidable power loss.
Then in the event of a train no longer being under engineers control, simply cut power to that length of track, the train fails-safe. A system relying on a near-frictionless grid would definitely be trumped by a sudden resumption of friction, it would just be a question of making the fail-safe something that wont cost a million in maintenance every time you trip it.
Yes sadly. They remain a warning to all of the dangers of when the evil and greedy also become stupid...and also a reminder of what groups like this actually represent.
Hopefully the overall response won't be the realization by the evil and greedy that they need an evil and smart person in tow at all times whilst everyone else moves on.
A Karl Rove for every opportunist...not a world i want to see.
What I do not understand is how they cannot see that making it LESS valuable for content creators to sign with their labels is going to result in LESS ARTISTS bothering to sign with their labels. There already has to be a certain breaking point that is leading the current boom in independent artists releasing their own content or finding alternate distribution methods. Further reducing the incentive will surely cause >0 others to do the same.
This results in less product diversity, therefore even less market penetration, therefore making them lose even further influence over the market. Thats not even to mention the reduced income and reduced relevance.
Hypocrisy yes, but even in the evil "Exxxcelllent" sense how does this make ANY sense in terms of a business decision except for the ultra short term? This seems more along the evil "ONE MILLLION DOLLARS!" side of things. Sounds like their people organizing strategy will be retiring soon and just expect the corpse to rot after they do. That or someone really IS that stupid.
The issue here is a group maintaining its power, that just happens to be making use of the local religion to do it. Sharia law is NOT uniform in all islamic countries, or even amongst different sects in the same nation in some cases. The clergy in afghanistan ARE NOT the ones who are considered the be all end all for interpretation of sharia law.
To polarize this by religion is ridiculous when its a governing body making the judgement to begin with. Yes, they are the clergy in afghanistan, but they're just humans maintaining their positions of power not widely accepted views from the entire world of islam. If I were to use the same tactic in reverse, i'd be spouting things like "What part of "Thou shall not kill" is so hard to understand?" like the onion, or perhaps suggesting one contemplate when it was that executing the mentally challenged was finally banned in texas....part of the proverbial bible belt yes?
Course its always a lot easier to spout a knee jerk response and feel righteous about it. I suppose thats why springer existed to begin with. Look at it this way, culturally a blanket statement of "blasphemy" tends to have other people look the other way when someone is sentenced to death in that country, so that is the bent the officials used to silence their critic.
In north america, we call it "witchcraft" "communism" or "terrorism" and replace death with life without parole, economic destruction, or character assassination...except for certain states of course. We also have a culture of questioning blanket statements concerning freedom of speech, and went through our own embarrassing period with Salem and such.
Granted, I prefer here to there based on this, but i've lived in this system all my life so I cannot really compare at all. The arrogant attitude that the US is somehow of a "superior class" and shouldn't be compared with other governments is just racism enhanced by jingoism in the end though.
If we want to be angry, be angry with Hamid Karzai for not demanding a pardon. He's been dealing with western diplomats long enough to know what kind of outrage this would cause, even if he isn't humanitarian enough to do so on his own. And if he somehow doesn't have the balls to step up to the clergy, then who is REALLY in power in afghanistan currently?
I dunno, whether it has been implemented or not I would be AMAZED if CSIS or the CSE did not have some pretty heavy network traffic sniffing research.
We were considered some of the best espionage and counter-espionage operators in the world for a reason. And for those that never heard that...well, exactly. If you doubt, look into the world of cellphone tapping and radio espionage between 1960 and 2000.
Not causation by any means, but a hell of a lot of indicative correlation =)
All history up to current day adds insight into the different kinds of points of view people may have. In fact, actions of humans in the past are the ONLY data we have to work with when you really think about it. No one "knows" what is going to occur in the now or the future until it has happened and we see the causation or at least the correlations.
P.S. How do you really find a needle in a haystack? With a match. Or, assuming a Ferrous needle, a magnet.
It's definitely a strange argument to attempt when really what you need when searching for a needle in a haystack, is a method of needle location that IGNORES THE HAY, not cataloging each and every instance of !needle.
If one is searching for needles amongst haystacks, trying to control the size of the haystack or the number of haystacks seems rather....absurd.... Then the needles that don't want to be found now know exactly which pile to stay out of, even more so than now.
K, i think i've anthropomorphized at random enough for one post. I entirely agree with you except for that last bit, as needle finding tactics should require direct interaction with the hay itself as infrequently as possible.
Corporations have bottomless wallets while the people don't. I never understood this mentality. Do people really believe that when they're suing a corporation that the money just magically appears and isn't impacting anything down the line? The fact that most people end up sitting on that cash the rest of their lives makes it as it they've effectively pulled that cash straight out of the countries GNP, as the corporation in question WILL cut costs elsewhere to hedge the difference.
The impact is people losing jobs or lower wages, poorer quality materials in use, poorer service, as well as this friggan warning label on my "Travel Coffee Mug" not to drink from it...
One thing we have in Canada that helps reduce the impact of these types of suits is the fact that the courts decide what damages should be awarded to a successful plaintiff. Although I prefer this to the "I choose to sue you for amount n" method in the US, this still hasn't removed the mentality from our citizens that corporations are magical money trees.
Isn't tanstaafl mentioned on the first day of econ101 courses anymore?
Personally I almost prefer to see kids who read adult level literature as early as possible, especially before they can truely grasp the more complex abstract concepts. It's always fascinating to hear the questions that come up that one would never have asked as an adult, having been through the filters and prejudices (in the most neutral meaning possible) of society by the time ones considered "at that reading level".
Course, whether this is a good idea or not really DOES depend on the child. It's certainly the same idea with video games, as so many games are really at the choose-your-own-adventure-book level in terms of engaging the young.
"Every book is a childrens book if the kid can read."
Whether a child is "Ready" for such things isnt something that can really be generalized. It really depends on each individual child, their ability to see the difference between reality and escapism, and their desire to make use of this kind of media.

I thought the point was that the only thing that holds their loyalty in this entire world is money.
Alas, grip tightens, slips through fingers, etc.

Meh, the ubuntu convention is just the hurricane naming system alliterated.
Also agreed that theres no particular purpose for such strange naming notions beyond baring ones excessive elitism to the wide world.
Free of what?
I'm sure like anywhere else, it began free of humans.
Humans arrive, and then start doing things for the first time...
whats your "free" checklist that makes one qualify for your definition?

Jebus, I was just making a joke (hence the "wait..."), but its interesting to see the discussion that developed from an idle comment between clients.
Don't trust any spec over 40.
wait...
Theres a few more steps than sun->chlorophyll->stomach for the hummer though.

To use the Godwintastic route this has gone, consider the Reichstag Fire Decree.
Remind you of anything? or at least the beginnings thereof?
It's as if a million chinese officials burst out in laughter....
and then kept on laughing.

I could almost see it..
"Hey man, check this out! they're doing exactly the same thing as people before....on the innternet!".
Yeah, when they all forget to attach the doll it'd kinda ruin the whole nuclear non-proliferation bent pretty badly.
