Emacs article on Slashdot?? Cue the "all it needs is a good editor" comments...
In an effort to understand what sets this project apart from the other options to the point of being worthy of Slashdot (although "worthy of Slashdot" has taken on a new meaning in recent years) I checked out the code and had a look around...
* A grand total of 3 commits (including 2 one-liners)
- First commit was less than 2 weeks ago. This is literally some dude's weekend project from a week and a half ago.
* About 600 lines of code
* About 1,300 lines of embedded XPM images
Definitely not noteworthy so far... "Unifying" all of the existing solutions is fairly cool, but just wrapping them in a few toolbar buttons is... not that cool...
I thought the whole premise of Tor was that you can't tell from that outside that someone is actually using it (much less "collect" the data you transmit over Tor)?
My guess is that they get hits from people who never changed their default home page on IE, and if you're stupid enough to be using IE you're probably going to take a few minutes figuring out how to open a new tab...
I understand what you're saying, but (despite your snide confidence) I still think you're missing the point: there is no children's section!
Wow, all this over the idea of providing a version of youtube targeted at children... I wonder if Sesame Street met such resistance on/. when it launched (how old is that show?)?
Yes, but at least you don't see "top 100 sex positions to blow your mind" books strewn about the children's aisles, which is analagous to the current situation on youtube and the primary concern of the op.
I've found for most of my Computer Engineering needs that a logic analyzer is much more useful than an oscilloscope. From the same people who brought us the magnificent "Bus Pirate" I present to you the
"Open Workbench Logic Sniffer"
I've never actually used it but it looks like a pretty sweet device.
Agreed. Why is it so wrong and evil to accept the fact that many (definitely not all) stereotypes are actually correct?
It's one thing when you don't have any personal experience or regular interaction with whoever's being "stereotype'd", but I've been around enough humans (about half of which are female) to confirm this one.
I can't vouch for the direct translation in French, but it's interesting to see how words in certain phrases resemble words from different languages, especially in closely related languages like French and Portuguese.
In Portuguese:
Faz = do
meus = my
deveres = duties
Isn't the definition of a duty something that you're supposed to do??
If company expansion (in terms of hiring new employees) is an indicator as to how much a company is worth then sure enough they're not doing too well:

If you're on some type of locked down kiosk that only has firefox (like on many school campuses) you can do a ctrl-p to print, click on properties, enter "xterm" in the print command text box, click print and you've got yourself a terminal.
This is only a unix trick inasmuch as you're launching an xterm but aside from that it's pretty much a firefox ( < 3.0 ?) trick...
I'm sick of everyone talking crap on goosh. Goosh freaking rocks! I'm seriously quite amused by it. And it really is easier to type your search in to goosh and then just type the number of whatever result you want to see. It's quicker and cleaner and everyone saying "It's nothing like a real shell" completely missed the point. Props to Stefan Grothkopp.

Oh, and he's an OSX user.

Tin foil hat!!

Right, in the library, (hopefully) not in the children's section...
Yes, but at least you don't see "top 100 sex positions to blow your mind" books strewn about the children's aisles, which is analagous to the current situation on youtube and the primary concern of the op.
Function call taking up 900 big ones? Function *definition* maybe...

Ditto.
This could be just the thing for me to break into the pen business -- MD5 hash capabilities on a ballpoint!

I'm getting straight C's due to my regular slashdot usage.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the plan is to digitize and *destroy* every book ever written...
