Your wishlist is excellent, I would absolutely love to see those items go into PHP instead of useless items like the pthread wrapper. I am sure that community and industry response would be positive, as well.

What in the hell is "server safe"? How about this?
$sql = "select username from accounts where username='".$_REQUEST['username']."' and password='".$_REQUEST['password'].'";
What percentage of php developers use inline variables in their SQL and what percentage instead uses bound parameters?
PHP doesn't even support remedial sanitization warnings like perl's "taint" mode. Every piece of PHP code I have ever seen uses inline sql with the "addslashes" crutch. It's the worst of all worlds.
But hey, PHP has wrapped the entire pthreads library, now THATS useful!

A databased-based session will serialize a file descriptor?
You'd have to live near a mosquito-infested area to understand. Imagine a black haze of mosquitoes as far as you can see in every direction. Keeping mosquitoes out of cities will definitely not affect their population outside of the cities in any large way. I'd also suspect that the method of trapping and destroying the mosquito itself is environmentally better than the current method of mosquito prevention (pesticides and surface water oils).
I'm not being pedantic but I do want to mention that independant labels have some fantastic pop artists. Obviously, the artists aren't "popular" by mainstream sales figures, but they share a sound similar to mainstream pop music only the accompaninment is typically more avant-garde and the lyrics a bit more educated. "Bis" would be the first group that comes to mind. Freeform Five is another top-notch indie pop band, many cuts off their album "Strangest Things" would sound right at home on mainstream radio. The excellent quality of indie pop, and the fact that it will never see mainstream airplay in the US, is really the constant reminder for me of how bad US radio has become. These artists do get played on Sirius and XM, however. I have been very surprised at how progressive the playlists of some of the satellite radio stations are.
Web sites generally have a high level of concurrency and, as such, SQLite is probably not an appropriate solution for the web. For a desktop application, however, it would definitely be a viable alternative to low-concurrency databases such as Access.
Protools is the industry standard because every pothead rocker knows the name and won't set foot in a studio that doesn't have protools and sixty different types of microphones. Protools is the windows of professional recording.
The indie labels don't lose money because they usually sign bands for a 3 record deal. The major label buys out the contract and the indie label banks. If a band gets too big too quick, the indie label doesn't want anything to do with it anyways due to the amount of capital that can be rapidly required to meet explosive demand.
The truck is a brand new Oshkosh MTVR. The company's involvement in the project is substantial, they approached the university about working with them, not the other way around as was the case with most of the other teams. Oshkosh has a huge interest in developing the autonomous transport because, in the end, it's going to be something like the MTVR and not a Touareg that the military will want to use as a platform for the technology.
You think the red team has major military sponsors? Look at Team Terramax. Their vehicle is from Oshkosh, the largest supplier of military trucks, and is widely in use by the military. The team's navigational system came from Rockwell Collins, another colossal military contractor. I'd say that Terramax's military ties is stronger than any other team.
It's 10:23pm EST here and I don't see any automatic update icon on either of my FF-running machines here. I did even get out the magnifying glass to make sure that the tiny icon was not there and it is, in fact, not.
The hotel cards are indeed primarily for the safety of the guests. It's the hospitality industry, hotels are very concerned about the safety and satisfaction of their guests. Physical keys are extremely unsafe compared to key cards. The danger posed by lost or stolen guest keys, lost or stolen master keys, and untraceable room entry are all substantially mitigated with a card key system.
Disney's point-of-sale system is linked into their room charge system, so all the card stores is your guest "folio" number and everything gets charged to that. This is a common resort implementation.

If you had read the article, you'd have seen that the device is not an indiscriminate bug zapper. It has a mosquito-specific attractant.
Did +you+ think CowboyNeal would turn down a sandwich?
Yes, because no pop music can come from an independent label.

My Braun electric toothbrush does too and you can recharge it just by setting it next to a CRT-based monitor.

Your comparison between the RIAA and the mob is right on point. Historically, there have been ties between record labels and organized crime.

To make it truly Springer-ish, we'd need Ballmer's chair-throwing antics.
The real problem was the huge glasses of vodka tonic prior to my post.

I think that researchers who study the evolution of linguistics really don't care much about the "experiences" of "someone who plays a lot of MMOGs".

The front desk staff never read the manual.
No, the room key can be used by the WDW point-of-sale systems to read your folio # off the room key and charge the transaction to your room folio.
