    What in the hell is "server safe"? How about this?

    $sql = "select username from accounts where username='".$_REQUEST['username']."' and password='".$_REQUEST['password'].'";

    What percentage of php developers use inline variables in their SQL and what percentage instead uses bound parameters?

    PHP doesn't even support remedial sanitization warnings like perl's "taint" mode. Every piece of PHP code I have ever seen uses inline sql with the "addslashes" crutch. It's the worst of all worlds.

    But hey, PHP has wrapped the entire pthreads library, now THATS useful!

    You'd have to live near a mosquito-infested area to understand. Imagine a black haze of mosquitoes as far as you can see in every direction. Keeping mosquitoes out of cities will definitely not affect their population outside of the cities in any large way. I'd also suspect that the method of trapping and destroying the mosquito itself is environmentally better than the current method of mosquito prevention (pesticides and surface water oils).

    I'm not being pedantic but I do want to mention that independant labels have some fantastic pop artists. Obviously, the artists aren't "popular" by mainstream sales figures, but they share a sound similar to mainstream pop music only the accompaninment is typically more avant-garde and the lyrics a bit more educated. "Bis" would be the first group that comes to mind. Freeform Five is another top-notch indie pop band, many cuts off their album "Strangest Things" would sound right at home on mainstream radio. The excellent quality of indie pop, and the fact that it will never see mainstream airplay in the US, is really the constant reminder for me of how bad US radio has become. These artists do get played on Sirius and XM, however. I have been very surprised at how progressive the playlists of some of the satellite radio stations are.

    The indie labels don't lose money because they usually sign bands for a 3 record deal. The major label buys out the contract and the indie label banks. If a band gets too big too quick, the indie label doesn't want anything to do with it anyways due to the amount of capital that can be rapidly required to meet explosive demand.
