Whole Foods really doesn't bring anything to the table that can't be done by any competent general grocery chain. They aren't even the best when it comes to the snooty foodie crowd. Whole Wallet just found a nice consumer niche full of suckers.
Forget security professionals. Most people are just plain lazy and won't go that extra mile to use the in store wifi. It requires an extra intentional step that most people simply aren't going to bother with.

Unless you are in the middle of Montana, you don't need to lean on wireless for anything else. Wired will always be faster, more reliable, and more secure for a myriad of reasons.
I find my problems in this regard (as an American) to be data caps rather than total speed. I know people in other countries and I don't really see them taking advantage of the improved speed or lack of bandwidth caps.
Even with my own landline service I am not using it to it's full potential. I don't pay for the fastest level of service because I don't have a use for it.
Data caps are the real thing holding back wireless use in America.
Not sure where this 24/7 notion comes from. Lowe's has pretty mundane business hours and a pretty limited reach. They aren't exactly IBM. A 3rd shift IT workforce seems like it would be nothing but a total bother instead of some sort of benefit.
125 jobs also doesn't seem like enough of a potential gain in terms of salary cuts to offset the potential PR blowback.
