So everyone is sending midget subs to the arctic in an attempt to gain some sort of rights to exploit the resources there. Is it only a matter of time before they start equiping them with torpedoes and try to sink each other? Last sub floating wins...like underwater robot wars.
Actually, now I think about it, no-one will get hurt and this is starting to sound like fun!

Whilst the above is true, it's worth noting that the most deadly aviation disaster occured on the ground, at Tenerife's Los Rodeos airport where two 747s collided, killing 683 people.

Yes, quite. Now regarding the actual article, what they seem to be saying is that there might have been a longer window for life to develop on Mars. Frankly this was always an unlikely event...Mars is and probably always has been dead. Sad, but true.
Interesting bit of geology though, and it's amazing what we can find out from these probes.

  13. From the Submitter on 1000-mph Car Planned · · Score: 1

I did wonder about calling this a 'car' when I submitted the story. A true 'car' should have driven wheels and either an electric or internal combustion engine. But it is designed as a terrestrial vehicle, and has wheels. 'Car' is a short form of 'motor car' which in turn is a contraction of 'motor carriage', and as this vehicle carries a man it is a carriage of sorts and it certainly has a 'motor' (well two actually) so ultimately, yes, it is a car.

Not just writing styles but spoken English as well. I hope I'm not too pedantic, but surely the correct use of the correct word is essential to ensure correct understanding. Yes we could 'Wiki' language so that what the majority believes is 'right' is right but this road leads to a chaos where, eventually, mis-understanding will become the norm. As for split infinitives, I'm quite happy to boldly go there!

  25. Re:I have seen the same on Finding Better Tech Broadcasts? · · Score: 0, Flamebait

It's not just Tech. TV in general is dumbing down, which is odd considering the general population is supposed to be ever better-educated. Not only is it dumbing down, but certainly here in the UK it's getting sloppy too, particularly in areas like basic grammer. Stadiums instead of stadia is one common (and annoying) example.
There does seem to be a trend towards the lowest common denominator which I, for one, would like to see reversed.
