I have a farcebook account. I started it a long time ago, under my 'real name' solely to stop anybody else trying to 'imitate' me. I have never used it, except for now. I have just posted the following on my 'wall'.
"This site is telling you to use an incorrect/unknown/un-used email address to contact me. Why? I object to this strongly!"
I wonder how many 'likes' it will get?
Why shouldn't it be on/. ?
This is a 'nerdy' item, and a rather sad one as well. Rather this than the endless, tedious and (to me and many others) redundant posts relating to US politics.
From the article (above) "when a patent holder accuses someone of infringing a patent, the burden is on the infringer to prove with 'clear and convincing evidence' that the patent is invalid".
Surely the burden must be on the patent holder to prove that their patent has been infringed. What happened to 'Innocent until proven guilty'?
No not *that* one. Just a nice pink screen saying you've been banned. I found this out the hard way when I accidentally set Opera's speed dial to refresh every second or something and they banned me as a suspected DoS attack!
My presence here now is testament to the fact that they do listen to reason, though for a while I was a bit worried. Life without slashdot - unthinkable.
"The Hobbit author JRR Tolkien suffered from a perforated ulcer before dying in 1973."
So what, everybody I know will have lots of diseases and illnesses before dying. You don't get many afterwards.
Surely the only answer is for ISPs to simply flag-up a warning with a 'Do you wish to Continue' button when someone tries to access a child-porn site, but do not block them. The Police know where these sites are, and can presumably log who goes there, with the assistance of the ISPs.
This way, innocent surfers will be able to avoid these sites, but the visitors would be logged, and can face the consequences.
I've not met a single person who doesn't use the start button.
I don't. Linux doesn't have one :P

Help him to build an electro-mechanical exoskeleton!
..is a crazy system that allows a site to be taken down with no prior warning, negotiation or appeal beforehand, surely.
Yes, but will it observe the Three Laws of Robotics?
The radiation breaks the water molecules down, liberating oxygen into the moon's exosphere.
So what happens to the Hydrogen? (No of course I didn't RTFA! This is /.)
Smivs rushes out to buy Apple shares
the lesion I'd wrongly thought was the result of a spider bite
Now that could have been waaaay cooler than Lyme desease.

Well I don't have Apple stock....can't speak for the other two people who have found the world's best browser by far.

Slashdot does not ban as far as I know.
Yes they do, and you get a nice PINK screen telling you so as well. Don't ask how I know this.

But it's no use if it's not automatic! What if you forget to switch it to the appropriate level?
