I think it is truly a novel idea - you went to two department stores, and now it's around 11:30 AM. You're probably going to eat lunch out. Time to advertise food places. Location over time is not the same as location-based. And as long as business process patents are allowed, this seems to qualify.

We do have a lot more latitude on what's considered free speech. If it's true, then you can say it with no consequences - normally. Imagine if this wasn't an ex but a politician. Our legal system is set up around the right to blast them into the ground, publishing whatever we can dig up on them if it's true. Unfortunately that digging up of dirt sometimes becomes the basis for an opposing political campaign, but still a fair trade-off to have a certain level of freedom.

Exactly. The only reason to be afraid of "Secure Boot" is broken implementations that just happen to work with Windows (or that Microsoft worked around the bugs in). Just look at ACPI - no evil intent is obvious, yet the damage is done.

The "Desktop" is merely presented as an app on the Metro UI. When you click it, you get the classic desktop and icons and programs running under it. In the developer preview, attempting to click on the Start button just takes you back to Metro - there's no Start Menu. On the bright side, the Windows key will act as a toggle to go back and forth between Desktop and Metro. I didn't install anything like Firefox or Chrome to see where it put the launch icon. I got too fed up with it before trying to install software.

I use wired Microsoft Natural keyboards and only replace when the letters wear off (despite not needing to see them). It takes about an hour twice a year to take all the keys off one-by-one and wash them by hand then wipe down the base, and put them back on. And all that time doubles as TV-watching time, so no time wasted.

Netflix's streaming library is already bigger than that of a Redbox. Netflix DVD is a DEEP library of almost any movie or TV show I could want to watch - including limited-run/canceled British and Canadian TV. I have a 150-disc Queue and only a handful are available via streaming or Redbox. Only people who enjoy being told what they want to watch will be happy with such a small selection.

You and I, we broke a few moulds in our time, eh, Gordon?

-Yeah, and a few eggs. -Yeah.

-Eggs? -You can't make an omelette...

-Yes, I can. -No, you can't.

-Yes, I can. -Not without breaking eggs.

So what if I can't, Gordon?

I mean, I'm a busy man. My talents lie in other directions.

No, no. I mean, you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs.

What is this, Cookery Corner? I don't need this, Gordon, all right?

I'm about to have a working breakfast with the toughest divisional sales manager since Moses
and all of a sudden you're giving me a list of all the things I can't do!

    Thanks for the support, partner.

-No, Stu, I only meant... -What am I supposed to say?

''Derek, I'm not right for this job, choose someone else. I can't make an omelette.''

-No, you can, Stu. But not without... -It's delegation, Gordon. I don't have the time.

I want an omelette, I go to an omelette-maker. Does that make me a failure?

All right, I'm a failure. I can't make an omelette without breaking eggs.

Well, no one can, Stu. That's the point. It's impossible.

-What do you mean, it's impossible? -It can't be done.

What do you think I've been eating all these years? I had an omelette last night.

Yeah, but they broke the eggs.

I hardly think they'd use broken eggs in executive room service, Gordon.

Yeah. I'm more likely to go with a company that goes to great lengths to get the small details right - even at the expense of some of the bigger features. My current portable computer's an iPod Touch, and they get a lot of details right. On the other hand, it took me close to a month trying to buy a washer/dryer combo. NONE of them had robust buttons. I bought one that had as close to physical buttons as possible, but I fear the internal workings are likely to wear out before the mechanical. The buttons just wore out on my working microwave and nobody had any information about how good the buttons are. I'm not talking about the lettering, of course. Just the workings behind them.
