    I've just applied for a patent for a system of extracting oxygen from atmospheric air, using things called "lungs" I expect a lot of people will be wanting to use my IP and have to pay me royalties.

    Pops! The sound must've been heavily muffled by the case. I once blew up an electrolytic cap in the open and f*** it was loud. I leapt across the room before I even knew what had happened, and was showered with little flakes of plasticy papery stuff.An this was only a little guy about an inch long x 1/2 inch 25volts or such. That was 25 years ago and I've been pretty respectful of capacitors since.

    Can't remember if it smelt like crabs tho'. Actually I can't recall ever frying crabs. Now there's an idea for the weekend. BBQ crabs! Mmmm, crabs. Should I add garlic?

    If the RIAA/MPAA can't produce a list of their stakeholders (e.g. Copyright holders), I wonder how they go about figuring what royalties to pay them.

    It seems to me that most of their artists are on contract and they get the same payments from the R%&A/M*&A irrespective of how much money is collected from sales - that's why they don't need the list. The two flows of $$$ are separate. One from the consumer to the industry as purchases are made, and another from the industry to the artists according to their individual contracts. It's not like, "we sold lots of CDs this week, lets pay Metallica a bit extra to show our gratitude"

    maybe.

    Yeah, I forgot to do a thesis before I posted ;)

    Take it easy, this is a discussion, OK. I'll take your point that girls DO like to problem solve. What I'm getting at is that if a game is directed at the types of activities they're good at, they'll enjoy it more. Guys like shooting stuff, cos they're good at it. I would imagine girls would like a game with lots of parallel activities to take care of. That's probably why they like Sims.

    Gaming for girls won't take off until voice recognition technology works a lot better. Really, they like to talk and discuss things rather than shoot and problem solve. Get that stuff into a game and you'll get the girls playing. We'll hate it tho'

    If you think I'm flaming, just read one of the hundreds of Venus&Mars books on the shelves nowadays.

    Yes, you wouldn't stick a fork in your eye twice. But children DO learn SOMETHING from EVERYTHING. The more time you spend with them the more you realise how resourceful, resilient and capable the human child is. I think it's when we hit late teens we are at our most vulnerable.(not used to the xtra hormones!)

    And if course being an adult requires having a skin thicker than rhinoceros

    Okalie Dokalie. I can deal with that.There are some good suggestions. I've already tried some similar things.

    Trouble is he really seems keen on the orthographic style games. To his credit he's become quite good at it. If you get on to starcraft he's calling himself SNEG - try and beat him [school restarts Monday so be quick]. The skill improvement over the past week has been awesome.

    I just wish someone would invent a homework game that grabbed as much attention.

    DO you think that makes me a truly horrible parent! Parenting is not that easy, I'm trying. Really. Would you recommend that I ban him from the computers? Would that make me a good parent?

    Look maybe I exaggerated a bit. He has eaten, he has slept - a bit. I read the Korean thing. I'm trying to give him some space while school's out. But I'm willing to consider alternatives, if it will help him to have a happier life.

    Geez, give me a break $0 elite; some constructive suggestions would go down well........

    I'm getting pretty good at Frozen Bubble & I'm way over 35 (hey, it happens)

    My son however is a better example of an avid gamer. He's been playing Starcraft solidly for the past 2 weeks (school hols) including several overniters.

    Seems a bit excessive to me, but then, I'm not addicted

    ... to gaming that is... Beer on the other hand...

    I don't get it, why not just configure your network not to hand out IP addresses to anyone who asks? Does this wireless thing have no security at all?

    So use static IP addresses if you're running a wireles. That would certainly cut down the odds of finding a free address. Simple, but not foolproof.
