    If you run a QBASIC DirectX software renderer under a JIT MS-DOS emulation in a computer with those specs you probably won't notice any difference either. Even if the JIT emulator is written in C#.

    Have you ever seen a baby? To him the parts of his body including his hands and feet are not part of him. It's through experimentation that he becomes able to use them and to put them into his body space. The process for tool interiorization is probably the same.

    It isn't text. It is the typewriter paradigm that is obsolete. Just in case you didn't notice we are not using BASIC time-sharing servers anymore. PHP forums and GUI applications(even in text mode) are ways beyond mail-lists and undocumented command line -qwertyuiop mail clients. Support for such obsolete technology should be left to emulator writers.

    You left out the other 7 people. Seriously, if you need a console mail client you are either living in the 1970s or using mail for things that have been rendered obsolete by modern web and OS development. Either way you are outdated.

    It is domestication. We share many traits with other domesticated species. We are much less agressive and social than our ancestors(well not US I mean humanity in general) and have strange eye and fur colors due to conscious selective breeding. We were the first domesticated animal.

    I usually download Firefox through FTP. I don't dare to do even the slightest browsing in IE. I keep it for some non-compliant sites, but even then feel dirty.

    The fact is that most computers use Windows. So Microsoft not following standards with their software effectively renders them useless.

    What do they expect to find?
    Even if they found life, and that would be extremely unlikely, even if it is there, due to the life-unfriendly conditions(no heat, no organic medium) at the surface, they would have to dig and dig in the correct place. Then, when they had their rocks dripping Andromeda virus how would they know if it's dangerous to humans(or other earth life, I wouldn't like it wiping out Saccharomyces cerevisiae) without releasing it in the wild? They would need to check their interactions in vitro with every lifeform in the world to ensure 100% safety. And even then it could evolve.

    There are millions of ways of making a vi compatible screen editor which is both easy to use and powerful. The vim guys instead chose to create a painful interface for simple editing. Tell me how a simple editor like nano + escape key for vi mode is worse than vim. And you wonder why users ask for graphical configs. Windows .ini files were not painful to edit using the standard tools.
