the problem with this is that most of have literally no options. It is not take your business elsewhere, it is accept their crap or do without. We could go back to dialup, but other than that, I am stuck with Comcast. Verizon DSL is not an option for me, because they say they "oversold" in my neighborhood, so they can't sell any more (after I had already bought, but that's another bitch) leaving me with: Comcast and dialup. If we had the option to "take our business elsewhere" we would not be having this discussion.

Slashdot's subscription service adds very little value to the free service, as far as I can tell. I already get a checkbox asking if I want to hide the adds, and if that weren't here, there is still adblock. How much can Slashdot possibly make on subscriptions, and how many people currently viewing for free would pay to view this content? Especially if all sites started charging for viewing because they no longer had ad revenue?

In what society that worshipped both gods and goddesses were goddesses inferior to gods? The "Earth Mother" in many religions was the most important deity, and in Greek mythology, Athena (goddess of wisdom) was a tactically superior general over Aries (god of war) To actively deny the differences between male and female is to call attention to them. Use the word you are comfortable with, don't try to change the language of others, as you will never come accross as more than an asshole.

Apple has once in its history abandoned an outdated platform. I can still get all the apps I need for my 10.3 computers at work. The difference is the features of the OS itself, not compatibility. The few apps that require 10.4.x or higher (or 10.5.x) are not made by apple, they are made by third parties utilizing new features in the OS. This happens on the Windows platform even more often than Apple, many apps requiring a certain level of service pack to operate. My guess is that the app store won't have this problem anywhere near as much, as Apple retains tight control on the apps sold. I do not understand why people perceive this as an "apple thing"
