Agreed! A *real* descent though, not one just to show off technology but one bringing back the original story and finally bringing our hero home from where ever it was we left in orbit.
Ok, kidding aside, I actually did manage to end up with stitches in my eyebrow from a game of tag when I was young.
And oddly enough you lived, your parents didn't sue the school, and you got up and were likely playing within a few days at most.
Why do we want to take the opportunity of teaching our kids how to get back up after you fall away from them?
And it wouldn't surprise me if the school, after the fallout from this, requires parents to sign a disclaimer before the kids are allowed out on the blacktop. *sigh*

No game can make you play. You choose to play. Have the Tier 2 Armor to stand up and say with pride; I ruined my life with a silly game! Otherwise, don't bother. When 7 million people play and don't get addicted - it can't be that bad can it?
Serious Sam 2 had the misfortune to come out in the middle of a fairly bumper crop of big PC fpses. In particular, Quake 4 and F.E.A.R. really stand out.
Wow, talk about a confusing name change. First Serious Sam: The First Encounter, then Serious Sam: The Second Encounter. Now Serious Sam II. Shouldn't this be III?
I got burned out on the "more of the same" exercise in Sam II. Fun, well done, well storied, but ultimately looking for more than what was there and getting tired of trying to dance my way through billions of mobs...
I am a player and I do enjoy that I don't have a montly fee. Is it new? Not to the PC space, but is very new in the MMO space. No one, before AreaNet, had run an MMO without a monthly fee - at least not on this scale. Even really bad MMOs had a fee.
It's also been interesting to watch as a marketing exercise from SoE. As WoW, EQ2, etc. all spawned there wasn't much of a hiccup in the game, things just moved on - despite the game having radically changed from its roots.
Take note builders of level oriented MMORPGS; As your characters get older, they will get bored, you can keep throwing new levels, larger Monsters, etc. but in the end if your model is "level up and pay the monthly fee" - its a short ride.
Enjoy my cash SoE. Bring on GuildWars!
Personally when I purchase something I expect that I've purchased control over it. So if I buy a song I expect that I can move the song from my CD to my PC to my portable player, in whatever format I prefer.
Think of it this way. We all have VHS tapes around, and now that the world is going to DVD we bring those tapes forward onto the new media. Okay, now flash forward a decade - how do we bring our now DRM DVDs up to the next level? Can we?
Seems to me like I've lost that "control" that I thought I bought. There will always be thieves, but treating us all like them isn't the best solution.
And GuildWars will be running its 2nd "Alpha" event, the WPE, across the weekend allowing players to try it out free of charge pre-release. http://www.guildwars.com/
Oof, Pepsi Blue has a kick?
After a late night of coding there are only a few choices, IMO: Mountain Dew, or Bawls.
The other ones, Jolt, Red Bull, WhoopAss and XTZ are just hard to palette at 2am. Too much syrup.
Ah! I had forgotten the days of upgrading to a 117200 baud external modem to be able to down load the fiodnet mail quicker. Remember DESQview? TradeWars?
man, what a flash back.
Definitely a renaissance of gaming titles coming up, with Wolfenstein in the works and now DOOM III it will be interesting to see how the projects come out. I agree though, having DOOM in a Quake setting will not work. The original feel, and fear, of DOOM will have to be rebuilt using the newer technologies without looking like a Half-Life wanna-be.
