This is good news BUT, in order to get decent 3D accelleration, we HAVE to keep after the hardware companies.
I work for one of these companies (although i cant say which one) and let me tell you they are all in the "considering it" phase, but they really need to know that there is customer interest before they invest man-hours writing X drivers.
This is the most important thing the Linux/FreeBSD/etc. community can do at this point. The more _polite_ and _persuasive_ emails the hardware companies recieve, the better. None of these companies want to be "the first to try it" and then get burned. It must be proven to affect their bottom line.
on a manned mission to anywhere. What do they expect to find there?? I could just see the scientists: "Oh look! Another rock!!! and we're spending $10,000 per minute finding it!!" Sheesh.
To the USA: spend the money on more important things.
Of course you aren't seeing much of an improvement with current apps. Guess what? CURRENT apps aren't written to make use of the new P3 instruction set, so of course you won't see a major improvement!
Once hardware vendors start releasing P3 optimized OpenGL and display drivers, we will see a teriffic performance boost from P3's. And no, I don't work for Intel, but I happen to be writing P3 optimized stuff right now, and believe me it's really something:)
Fox has been known to shut down sites bearing no resemlance to their own, and ones that never claimed to be the official sites. I know of a lot of X-files sites that were 'foxed' over so-called intellectual property.
I wish there was a search engine that actually listed useful information. Heh, guess thats the holy-graile of search engines. For instance, wanna find out about Pontiac cars? Do a search for "Pontiac" on yahoo. You will be presented with 100 links all pointing to www.pontiac.com, which is basically just a big bloated advertisement.
Wish there was a search engine that filtered out all these "official" sites!
Unfortunately, there are lots of sites with.com names that aren't really "for-profit" sites (my url for instance), so grepping out the.com sites wouldn't work.
I'd rather not dick over anyone, personally. Remember, when someone makes money, it isn't _always_ at someone else's expense. Admittedly sometimes it is, especially with the very rich, but of the friends that I have that are "well off" none of them can claim that they got there by beating down someone else.
I, along with many other geeks I know, tend to be a "fiscal republican". Fiscal republicans are conservative when it comes to your wallet, and liberal when it comes to your bedroom.
Hopefully Internet2 stays in Universities and non-profit organizations, unlike it's bloated, over-commercialized predicessor.
I remember when you could get 400K/sec on a file download from somewhere on the other side of the US. Now thanks to the convenience of U.S. commercial intere$ts clogging everything up with their bloated WWW sites, you can barely reach 30K/sec.
"Caligula was never supposed to get out," he told InternetNews Radio. "It was a proof-of-concept virus. No one in our group actually spreads viruses. We only make them available to the programming underground and that's about it."
Seems to me there are lots of people making intellegent and thoughtful arguments for using a non-microsoft platform on the station, and then there is one or two people who can only come up with things like "fanboys" and "propeller-heads" to justify their pro-MS position.
Cassius your whole argument boils down to the assumption that for the stations crew of _scientists_ that using unix is somehow a "change". Now no one here really knows what the crew of a space station was "brought up on", but seing as they will all be educated scientists, it would not come as a surprise to me if they are already used to working in a unix environment.
I also happen to agree with the posters that mention the decision to use Windoze is more politically motivated than technically or logistically motivated. I worked for NASA for a time and I know how science and politics mixes there.
If kids are curious enough about sex to go looking for it on the Internet, that indicates the parents need to sit down with them and EXPLAIN things, not try to hide it from them and pretend it doesn't exist!
...and the emulator isn't a product in and of it self that is worthy to be sold? Sony's case is totally groundless. Show me one person who uses an emulator for _any_ machine, who would have actually bought the machine had the emulator not been available.
This is like Nike suing Reebok for making socks that fit into Nike shoes.
Absolutely.
What else of use did we find there?

Use Windowmaker. Problem solved.

I guess if you want a "no-brainer" sysadmin running your systems, you deserve something as worthless as NT.
If only there was a distro like this but instead installing GNOME by default. That would be heaven heh.
Lots of "it's funny cause it's true!" stuff there!

I guess that means if it's an Xlib based game, they don't really consider it a game.
Has the site been slashdotted already?

There is a name for people who do for money what is against their ethics--and it's not a pretty name.
hahahahahaha.
Call me when MS actually _creates_ anything.

What a fscking jackass.
By that logic, IE is emulating Netscape if it is used to browse Netscape's www site. Thank you for proving my point, AC.
what a great double-standard
If a multi-billion-dollar company creates a product that interoperates with someone else's stuff, it's called innovation.
If a few guys in a dorm room do it, it's called theft.
It's your world. I only live in it.

Haha this is one of the funniest things I have read all day.. If the troll was actually serious I would be scared.
