  1. Re:Workaround bad memory howto (linux only) on Reliability of Computer Memory? · · Score: 1

Wow, that's amazingly helpful. Never knew this option existed. Here in Tampa, FL we have a LUG that takes old broken down machines, allows people to learn how to put the pieces together and take a rebuilt machine home themselves for free. (We teach them how to install Linux, show them that windows will OBVIOUSLY not work on the old hardware we build)

We generally test out all the hardware, and we get a LOT of bad memory, it's one of the things that we have to overload on lower-clocked systems to make them usable. Being able to map around bad memory is something I'll try next time we get a build session together. It will be very nice if we can map around these addresses to get some more workable machines.

Now...if only you had a howto for magically repairing crashed heads/destroyed platters on hard drives we'd be set!

With as many FPSs as I've played I should have freakin' x-ray vision by now! I'm staring very hard at the girl across the street...but...OH MAH GAWD IT'S A MAN! Turn it off! Turn it off!! I'll never play another FPS for as long as I live.

Isn't this how the *internet* is (at least in theory) supposed to work anyhow? Instead we have 90% of the cables that route the middle-east/europe running through the same canal. And I know of VERY few ISPs who actually make their systems redundant anymore. /sadface

  4. Re:Your choice on How Do You Deal With Pirated Programs At Work? · · Score: 1

Not only that but if your buying the license for something your already running, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have to change it in the first place. I worked for an architectural firm in Orlando, FL for 5 years and when I originally walked in the door the same thing happened. Most of their machines were Win98, pirated. I talked to a Microsoft reseller and they informed us that as long as you have the licenses on-hand and you can provide a machine-for-machine license, then your compliant. No need to change keys from OEM/Volume if the server software is the same. Just keep the license on hand.

  5. Re:You don't need a Wii or the remote. on Head Tracking w/ the Wiimote · · Score: 1

Generally also, webcams don't have the resolution that the Wiimote has. Aparrently from the specs I've read, the wiimote resolution is 1024x768, something most inexpensive webcams will not do. Your better off buying the wiimote.
