exactly, If I'm driving down a road, and a car stops suddenly right before me because the police wanted it stopped (maybe they're a few blocks back, or maybe they got the license plate wrong, whatever) and I get into an accident with them, who's fault is it? the drivers, OnStar, or the police?
I'm actually running the Penelope extensions.. Its pretty darn slick, and since my users are still using Eudora 5.5 as their mail client, it will hopefully give us an upgrade path with the least amount of training. They have not yet started on the import features yet though, just the look and feel.
The story said that the stem cells were from an anonymous boy's birth. Hope somebody has the foresight to tell him and his parents, otherwise, things could get interesting if his DNA is found somewhere else (like a crime scene)
Could you put Your Life on the line for an idea? I like to believe that I could, but if it really came down to hitting submit, or seeing my lady, family, etc again, would I hesitate? Would I do it? God, I hope I never have to find out. I can't explain how much thinking about people dealing with this makes me want to help them. I won't insult you by saying I salute you, it is not nearly enough..
One thing to point out (and I'm on your side) apple announced that they sold their 1millionth iPhone.. since they dropped the price $200, lets assume it was profit (in one way or another). Thats 1/5 of a billion dollars for a single product, in a quarter, for a locked down, proprietary product from a company that is losing it. I'd say they're doing pretty good..
Per their FAQ: If you use Linux, you can currently buy individual songs. A Linux version of the Amazon MP3 Downloader is under development, and when released will allow entire album purchases.
Actually, Some of the newer Dell and HP laptops have the tracking software built into the bios/motherboard. Were looking at using it in combination with the Encrypted laptop hard drives, and fingerprint readers.. For us, its not so much about getting the laptop back, but making sure they can't get at our data. Privacy of our customers is critical. Also, the Computrace stuff built into the Dells can be told to remotely wipe the hard drive.

If there have been more than 4 articles about google or apple this week, we hate them!
If the day ends in "Y" you hate microsoft

If a post is made by a "4 digit" user, even if they claim the Iraq war was started by Ceasar in 42BC, for control of the moon and the entrances to the caverns beneath the earth were the Hobbits live, you may never comment against them, or mod them down..

Sun has containers.. Sun is also working on other virtualization stuff.. Lets say I need a Solaris box for my DB, and a Windows server for my App.. Do I buy a $10k sun box for the DB, and a $5k box for windows, both with different hardware, warranties and contracts to keep track of, etc, or do I buy a $15k box, put Solaris on it, and Run windows under a VM? Keep in mind that i still need a license to run windows in the VM, so I would rather buy it all from the same company for support and simplicity. Now, after this, do I pay $ for VMWare, or do I use the free Solaris VM software (that sun signed this contract today for), allowing me to spend $15k+$ on the server, and get even more performance... (or just spend less money). Now, I get more bang for the buck, Better hardware performance, and One vendor to go to for ANY Problem on the system! That does sound like innovation (when innovation is defined as not throwing the customer all over the place, pointing fingers at the "other" company, while your critical systems are down!)
The the new inferface is probably great for somebody who has never used a microsoft office suite before, but for people who have been doing things the same way for the last 10+ years the change was too much.
Kinda sad, or Ironic, that you use the biggest barrier to open source adoption as the reason for adopting it. Thats the same argument people have been making about linux for a decade now.. Its different, I'm not used to it...
While I agree with you, keep in mind that in the US, there are a half dozen different kinds of cell phone technology. This causes 2 big problems, one, you can't take your Sprint Cell phone and move to T-Mobile service, because the phone won't work. And number 2, it is not cost effective to manufacture cheap, simple cell-phones in the US, because you would have to make several different types of the same phone. So the companies work closely with the cell-phone service companies, and develop the phones that the company wants. This results in expensive, customized phones that have loads of features I don't want!
your forgetting that there are two court systems in the us. Criminal Courts, and the Court of Public Opinion. The Court of Public Opinion is headed by news organizations who will refer to someone who murdered 5 people in front of 20 witnesses and 2 cameras as the "alleged Murderer" yet treat any celebrity or person that is a suspect in a crime they don't like as guilty.
We in this great country prefer the Court of Public Opinion, because it gives 40 seconds to one side of the story, 10 seconds to the other side to show their not biased, and 10 seconds of the newscasters own disgust or personal opinion. That way, we get the whole court of public opinion case over with in 1 Minute, instead of months of boring details like evidence in Criminal Court!
Don't be so gentle when you turn it, and make sure the DB server is running.. If you happen to do it just right, you can make enough hard drives in your raid array hiccup, and lose the whole array. Then it can read the entire DB in a millisecond!
Its interesting to read one of his other blog postings that he points out in this blog posting about how he thinks the patent system is broken, and its main goal is to force everyone to cross license patents...
But I'm torn.. I've been looking at NAS,SAN boxes, mainly the StoreVault S500, or the Higher End Netapp 270, or a lower end Sun StorageTech 52xx for my work.. I hate patents, love ZFS, but not sure which one to order now! Guess I'll have to give Equallogic another call..
I think the issue is battery life. The big screen uses much more power than the smaller one. Microdrives use much, much more power than flash drives... They probably thought of it, and realized it meant making it much thicker, or with a 5 hour battery life..
I don't own an iPhone, but if I remember correctly, the "Syncing" between apps and your phone are handled by iTunes. I would assume that the iPod Touch would work exactly the same, since they both require iTunes to work correctly on your PC.

Yes, but a 50Mpg diesel is a Volkswagon Jetta, wheras a 50MPG gas car is a old Geo Metro. The diesel has a hell of a lot more power. A better comparison would be to compare the same car... Ie, a 17MPG Jeep liberty with its 3.9L engine, or a 30MPG Jeep liberty 2.4L Diesel (that they only produced for 2 years in limited quantity, when will they bring them back???) There is more CO2 in a gallon of diesel, but in the same car, the diesel will get you almost 2 times as far, so unless it has 2 times the CO2 per gallon (it doesn't) diesel is the better choice. Then you get into the fact that diesel uses much less "refining", so less energy and chemicals to create it. Or the fact that the engines last much longer, and are simpler, so less waste from the cars "wearing out" and getting replaced, etc...
How is this more complicated than Installing Cameras, finding a way to get the signal back to the "main office" either via new cables, or wi-fi, or some other infrastructure that would need to be put into place, having someone monitor all these cameras, or having software do all the monitoring and counting to give some data? The Cell Towers are already there. The data is already there.
They used existing data with existing infrastructure and a bit of logic to implement a solution that does not cost as much in maintenance and installation, and provides the needed information!! If only our government would be so good with our money!
I haven't been their for 4 years, since I never got my rebate on my laptop. (the manufacturer sent one, but not best-buy). But now I want to go back, especially since in Oregon, only 1 person in the conversation needs to know it is being recorded. Or hell, don't bother hiding it, just grab one they sell off the shelf, pop a battery in it, and buy both of them.. They won't even notice I have it turned on when I'm holding it..
Yeah, but think about how many Semi trailers of hard drives a day they must get at the NSA for all their "wiretapping" needs.. That could be a huge chunk of revenue!

That is really nice to see!
In which case, the American Cobalt's price will raise to $14,900 for no reason other than the fact that they can, and still have it be cheaper..
Heaven help us Linux users if some commercial company were to get access to the source code for the Kernel!

Yeah, and with phones that just "standby" instead of turning off, you have to remove the battery. Oh, wait, how do you do that on an iPhone?
