Only reason thousands of people are not out of cable modem right now is the providers that were using @home saw it coming and plopped down money on switches routers etc... There is a big difference between that and launching a satellite... and this wouldn't be the first satellite service to fail..

Which is why I replace or have them never install the stereo when I buy a car so I can put my own speakers, head unit, amps, etc in the car. To get the sound that I like. Not what the bean pushers would allow them to buy 30billion of for the mass production of a car. So loosing the increased functionality is just a fact of life for those that crave better sound. No real loss to install another random box in the trunk to recieve sat signals at that point.

I am not going to pretend that everybody here uses these things for legitimate purposes so lets get down to the point. If you want to use a service and have it stay around for awhile, you need to find another filesharing method that has been around for years without being pinched off.
The number one that comes to mind for me is IRC combined with a real file transfer method (ftp) none of that dcc crap. Well... awhile back I started playing with Direct Connect. And it seems to be a good shot at the "right" way to do it. Anybody can setup a HUB, which is used for chatting and brokers search requests. Hubs can interconnect (like irc) and make a much larger resource base. And clients are the nodes.
It has a higher learning curve than napster or kazaa but after you figure it out and find a few good hubs you like you should be set.

Having used paypal quite a bit I think I can answer how there could be harm in giving the money back to the original owner. If you define that as letting the original login have access to it. Because if there was indeed a transfer initiated from your account to another account, that would mean that the 3rd party that was playing with your money had your password and account info. Which would allow them access to it once again if it went back into your account.

I am not saying that their process of finding out who you are is not taking too long but the process itself makes sense. Odd transaction, red flag, prove customer is original customer, setup new account/change password on old, release funds. If they were speedy about this I would have no problem with it, but if what you are saying is correct, they are either amazingly understaffed or playing the insurance company game.

Which is another gripe completely but knowing several people who have worked for insurance companies, some of the companies it is standard _unwritten_ procedure to deny claimes the first 1-2 times no matter how valid they are.

  19. Worst purchase ever. on ATi's All In Wonder Radeon 7500 · · Score: 1

A month ago I was in the market for a new video card and after looking at the geforceX cards and the Radeon 8500 cards I settled on the Radeon 8500 due to it's price and performance stacked up against the Geforce cards in the same and higher price ranges. After three weeks I am back to my Geforce 256 card and the Radeon 8500 is sitting in it's static bag on my desk. It has to be the worst hardware purchase I have ever made. The hardware itself may be very impressive stacked up to the comparable Geforce models but that isn't the problem.

ATI's inability to write a decent driver has caused this card to be a huge failure in my book. I play a good amount of quake 3 and in the earlier driver revisions it would lock up my computer every round or 2. Then some un-supported beta drivers came out that made it lock up less frequently but messed up the rendering of quake 3 worlds horribly. Version after version of drivers have come out and seem to fix one problem and introduce 3 more.

Issues like the frame rate randomly dropping below 30 and staying there till I reboot. The edges of a world being visible because of gaps in the texture rendering. Random lockups, a few random reboots.

And before I get 30 replies saying that the radeon is a great card and works for me and you have a crappy computer. Any other 3d video card I put in this machine works fine. I have yet to have a framerate, rendering, lockup, reboot, etc problem since my Asus Geforce 256 card went back in. And believe me I tried EVERYTHING I could think of, bios flash, every driver known to man on the system update, os reinstall (2000 and XP) couldn't use linux as a test platform as XFree86 doesn't have 8500 3d support yet.
