No, but you get to keep the original music track while the other person gets a copy. If I steal the pizza, you lose a pizza. If I DOWNLOAD a COPY of a file, you don't lose the file.

This is why it is not THEFT.

No, they don't. I've not listened to any new music from major labels for about 2 years, and I don't think i'm missing out on much.

The only folks i've heard of so far are Amy Winehouse (whos voice I hate more than Macey Grays'), NIN and Radiohead. I bought NIN and Radiohead's albums (FLAC for NIN, CD for Radiohead), and I also bought 10,000 Days by Tool.

Apart from that, i'll gladly listen to my Maiden, Metallica, Guns 'n' Roses, and all my other music many more times. I can wait out this game indefinately, as i'm missing nothing.

I will admit, however, that I do download CC licenced music. I'm not overly impressed so far, though.

I have tools like this, and probably BETTER tools than distributed on this USB drive.

I'm doing it from a moral standpoint; I don't need a Microsoft PC to game, and that's all I use Microsoft software for. My new Mobile contract will come with a free PS3 so I can game all I want in Hi-Def, play DVD's etc, and i'll run Linux on a laptop / barebones PC because I don't need anything Microsoft offers.

I'm doing this to spite Microsoft; I may even stop buying games associated with Microsoft Studios, and I buy a lot of games. I simply object to this blatant display of total irrelavence to end-user satisfaction, and my way of saying "I am not ammused." will be to not use Microsoft products any more.

I know it's quite a hollow gesture, being only one person, but I'll be sure to add into my Objectives next year to research Open Source alternatives to Microsoft products in Primary and Secondary education. Losing £x00,000 in volume licensing for Windows Server, Client, Exchange, and Office applications is much more likely to be noticed.

Unless there is a way to bridge this divide between the technically capable and the technologically uneducated, there will be no wide-scale market uptake of anything else.

Microsoft became popular by supporting as much hardware as possible, ensuring the file structure was easy to use (try telling your mum her DVD isn't located at D: but now at dev/cdrom).
