i just mainly use gnome to launch apps, I only use about 10 of them daily so it's nice to have a little icon to click on rather than tediously going thru menus to launch an app. also the gnome applets rock and I think are much better than the E epplets only cause the epplets are so tiny and the font is hard to read. E's pager though, blows away gnome's.
I've even had apps spawn a GNOME Panel when I run them. This is just ridiculous. I do NOT use GNOME. I do not WANT to use GNOME. I just want to run an application.
>>> try running PROGRAM --help to see if you can turn off the panel stuff (like gnomeicu, irssi with xchat its an option in the prefs.)
I thought GNOME was supposed to be about "choice"? Then why are so many developers hell bent on making sure I don't have a choice if I want to use their application?
>>>maybe they dont want to reinvent the wheel with ANOTHER LIB to link to.
On a related note, I have been told by friends on the gnome mailing lists that Helix isn't going to make Debian packages because they feel it is "too hard". What the hell kind of logic is this? As if it is any harder to make a.deb than it is to make a.rpm?
>>> why not READ the helixcode.com webpage, theres.debs available. i know cause i apt-get'ed them yesterday.
i tried the linux version of the beos os, had the same problem as up above.. the dial up networking didnt even want to work, tried both serial1 and serial2. and i have an older zoom isa 33.6 modem, w/jumpers. another weird thing is that it recognized my sound card, which wasn't supported anyways.
whats this have to do with linux, linux sucks, freebsd had usb first, linux smp sucks, IIS is better than apache, i submitted this article three days ago, cmdr taco sucks, hemos sucks too, i remember when the internet was all text based before all you windoze lusers came over and ruined the fun, real men code in vi, emacs sucks, rms is a commie, esr is a wacko, whats this story have to do with the hotgrits pouring down my pants? natalie portman NAKED AND PETRIFIED!!!! mac os sucks, visual BASIC sucks, PERL RULES!!!! kde sucks gnome rulez!!!

Gnome 1.1.4 Released

im running gnome+sawmill and have xchat, gnapster, gnomeicu, gaim and lots of gnome-terminals and (ugh) netscape and it's taking 40 mbs of RAM. of course, what is the biggest RAM eater? Netscape! it takes up more RAM than X! according to ps aux | grep netscape its taking up 29% of my RAM. opening and closing netscape is a habit now every other hour. if you can, try to run apps that use the same graphical libraries, like all qt/kde or gtk/gnome apps.
try worldspy.net it's reliable, fast speed, hardly any busy signals. the catch is, you have to create your account using windows with IE4 (IE3 wouldn't let me in). once you create your account and use their fancy doodad setup program to dial in the first time it creates a dialup networking applet thing, with an almost random username listed. they use regular pap-authentication so you can dial in with it in linux/mac/fbsd or regular dial up networking in windows;)
Why do we need Desktop Environments (DEs)? In their current form, at least, they are mostly useless. I don't want desktop icons; the dock is much better. And, with KDE at least, there's no way to turn off said desktop icons, which only clutter my desktop. So if I want to use, say, kfm, I can't, not without running the rest of KDE, memory and CPU time I'd rather not spend
well, for one thing you have a choice of not using kde or gnome at all, and it's not like the desktop icons get in the way of whatever program windows you have open. you could just maximize a window or cover them up. as for kfm it was specially written to be used with KDE (startkde) where gnome tries to be window manager independent. i think it's a good thing for all the program to look somewhat alike using the same theme like gtk does. it just looks more uniform/pretty imho.
jeez.. you think you're funny with your pineapple something operating system, but you're not you fucking asshole, stop posting such unfunny shit, at least the grits boy is funny, bitch.
>BTW. 300 programmers ?? Shit, in commercial >setting one could create much, much more over >this period of time.
i think most of them are volunteers, not getting paid, doing programs because it's fun. rather than complaining about programs that don't work, try sending in a bug report or don't use it.

whats wrong with you moderators, "moderate this up'! made me laugh
[diamondc@sugarkane ~]$ ps auxw | grep netscape
now that's the memory killer, netscape sometimes goes up to 35%! somtimes.
moderators, mark this up to 5!!!!!!!

why is this 'insightful' when there were NO examples given?
you might be wrong since the source code package's are on the debian website. just cant distribute modified binaries, I think :)
shouldn't this be retitled Best E theme?
mmm, im eating caramel, and OH it's sooooo good ;)
if i did that, then my girlfriend could never email me :(
