Its one thing to continuously crash things into Mars, we all hate those damn Martian scum anyways... But now we are talking about Earth! Stop forgetting about your unit conversions or carrying the 1, or else someone might get hurt!

My #1 LinuxWorld Prediction:
CmdrTaco will make appearances at the OSDN booth, acting like he is some sort of celebrity, waiting for the hot linux babes to scream, "Oh CmdrTaco, please tell us over and over how many hits Slashdot gets in a day!"
as if getting picked on for being in this chess club wasn't enough.. they had to go make an internet chess club to insure that nerds will get a good beating by the jocks.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Kill the Jews! Thats a good one! I'll have to remember it! Damn... where is a pen, I need to write that down. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Kill the Jews.. you crack me up.
When are people going to wake up and realise that the register is just like all of the UKs publications.. a tabloid. Why write about the truth when rumour and flat out lies are so much more interesting and lucrative.
What the hell is this crap? What in the world does this have to do about News for Nerds? I mean, I know you guys all want to keep your job at Slashdot and keep your 6 digit salaries for surfing the web and watching anime. But seriously, ease us in to completely selling out, don't do it all at once.
this being the first time i have ever had a first post, i would like to thank a few people.
first off.. thank you slashdot. if it weren't for you, there would be no glamour in first posts.
i would like to thank my parents, my girlfriend, all the linux nerds in the world, my friends, the rest of my family, my hamster, my co-workers, the people who ride the bus with me, the people at subway, the guy at the liquor store, the lady at 7-11, the scary pizza guy... yeah. thats about it.
above all, i thank god. god gave me the power to click faster than the rest of you suckers.
AND YES... i used my +1 bonus on the FP, and i am using it again for this speech. there is nothing about FP to be ashamed of!
I don't know, the Unreal demo (1993) has always been my favorite. I think it has more to do with the fact that it was the first demo that ever really blew me away.
Funny enough.. at 700Mhz and 192M, I still had to make a boot disk to watch the demo:) Ahhhh.. boot disks.. DOS 5.0... memmaker... *sigh*
I picked up this Toshiba about 2 1/2 months ago, and it has worked great with linux. Its a nice thin laptop too.
For $1200 (almost 3 months ago.. price has prolly dropped) I got a 700Mhz Celeron, 64M ram (I added another 128M for $50), 13.3 Active TFT 1024x768 (really crisp), DVD, built in modem (haven't tried it out in linux -- use my pcmcia ethernet).
The only problem I have had is with sound. I haven't found good support under linux for the cs4281. Upping my kernel to 2.4.3-12 helped.. but mp3s skip a lot. The OSS drivers work perfectly, but I refuse to drop them cash ($45!) because I'm too lazy to fix things myself. Anyone have this soundcard working well on a laptop?

"ANSI Common Lisp"
Paul Graham
ISBN: 0-13-370875-6
Not only is just up to date when it comes to the ANSI standard for common Lisp, but it tackles many issues of learning functional programming. Good examples and lessons in recursion, macro writing and much more.
"Just imagine--sitting in the grass, in the sun, hacking away at some code that you've pulled from your sourceforge CVS archive through the ethernet port in the tree behind you."
It would be much cooler if hidden in the branches were 802.11b omnidirectional antennae. That way you are free to stroll around and be unteathered.. the way you should be inside a park.
the final nail in the coffin for OpenSource. If you think it is hard now trying to find a job using technologies that work rather that technologies that are popular, just wait until.NET comes out. This is when the shit is gonna hit the fan. We are fucked unless we do something drastic. We are all going to be out of a job.. and all the people who have been spending their time drinking coffee and eating doughnuts at these stupid fucking.NET seminars are going to take our place.
So what can we do? There is only one solution. Start killing. If you know someone who is excited about compileable ASP code... KILL THEM. If you know someone who has Visual Studio.NET beta... KILL THEIR WHOLE FAMILY.
If you want OpenSource then you are going to have to contribute to OpenKilling. This is the time to seperate the true advocates of free software, from the the poseurs who brag about the money they made when RHAT was hot... which reminds me, if you know someone who sold RHAT at a reasonable price.. KILL THEM.

will this hamper his ability to run so fast?
Who cares is the FBI smells my keyboard? It prolly just smells like sweat and doritos.
> I was at the Jefferson Memorial this summer. It's nice and all, but he deserves so much more.
Yeah... they really should have a big statue of Jefferson with his slave lovers and some of his illigitimate children. That would be beautiful.

Haha! Sounds like someone needs to migrate to Lindows for IE alone.

hehehe! geeks in space! hohoho! hahaha! lets say it again and maybe it will be funny this time!
if the slashdot team ever had a meeting in space, i would surely try my best to depressurize their capsule and watch everyone explode.
This will make you millions...
Lisp + Perl + C

"i guess this can only mean more fraudulent accounts of his-story."
His-story.. I hate that term. Who are you? Michael Jackson?

Thats funny.. mine was kind of similar, it usually was some variation of the following:
I'm sorry, I do not know how to "fuck myself".

obviously you did not read this followup

Now maybe someone will create an xbill 2!
using only my DVD remote control.
.... yes, that was a joke.
