The US certainly takes the cake for number of citizens sitting in front of computer with too much time on their hands. I would like to see a breakdown based on the severity of these attacks, to differentiate between some kid running a port scanner on his local cable loop and a deliberate attack on a .gov address or Randy Newmann or such.

  12. Re:Next up, censoring "backup tools" on YouTube Bans Terrorist Training Videos · · Score: 2, Insightful

There is no right, clear, or morally correct answer for any of this. It's all relative to the individual- whether that be the parent or the congressperson, it all comes down to trust.

Do we trust humanity with an instructional video on how to build a bomb or how to kill?

Proponents of free speech and free information begin to lose that trust when it blows up next to them. So then the bar is raised, and the next target is the bomb components. Or more directly for the sake of argument: guns.
Take away the guns because we don't trust humanity not to kill each other with them.
Then what's next? Video games and TV/movie violence- because we don't trust our children to know the difference between fantasy and reality?

So go ahead people, keep eroding the trust: Get in your car and drive to work so you can avoid that scary man on the bus. Don't take a moment to extend kindness to the less fortunate, let them build their stereotypes and become your enemy. We're digging our own graves..

This isn't going to make pop music more dreadful. The amount of bands and songwriters pumping out the same derivative progressions delivered with heartless predictability reached a critical mass years ago. The entire major record label business model is based off predictable pop, and that's in part why they are now failing.

The way I see it, art will always be art and the soft landscape paintings you see in Country Kitchen will always be temporary and forgotten.

The concept of a "killing frenzy" does not really apply in a tiger's natural environment. I doubt there has ever been an evolutionary period of three legged deer or grassland goats in which to hone a tiger's instinct to stop hunting when it has enough food.

  23. Re:Show me the quality on Will the Web Replace TV? · · Score: 1

The masses have been happily accepting convenience over quality for decades: cassettes vs vinyl, VHS vs Laserdisc, and 16Bit/44.1KHz CD's are still considered high quality when most albums have been recorded at 24 bit /48KHz for more than 10 years. Then there's DVDA, SACD, Blue Ray, HD DVD, and we'll see where those go.
It's the same reason a McDonald's burger is still considered food: it's easier not to care.
