Already, only Ford and other Microsoft partners will be able to use this technology. Meaning if you're not in a Microsoft partners' car, then you can't run the software. So you'll only be able to avoid traffic jams if you're in a Microsoft approved vehicle. So people will grumble, but eventually the majority of people will be driving Microsoft cars.

Pretty soon Debian Car will be launched, along with Ubuntu Car, BSDCar, etc., running better software, getting 1000mpg, capable of 0-60mph in 1.0 seconds, have 4-wheel-drive, and 5-star safety, yet only geeks will drive them and they will never be popular. Apple will come out with the iCar, which will have DRM software, and only the original purchaser of the car will be able to drive it, but it will "look cool" and have a Touch-Steering Wheel. Other drivers will only be able to drive the car 5 times before it will mysteriously stop working, and if you buy a BETA iCar it will randomly become a paperweight whenever Apple decides. Meanwhile the Microsoft car will get 1 mpg, do 0-60mph in 20 seconds, and crash randomly every day into a nearby object. But people will still use the Microsoft car to avoid traffic jams and for the other software available. Meanwhile Google will develop better traffic jam search software, that will be available on any car, and Microsoft will get jealous and try to buy it, to no avail...

...*sigh* the future sure does seem predictable!

And tons of people are refusing to switch over, and I don't blame them. I mean...why? What does Vista have that XP doesn't? What new stuff can Vista do, or what existing stuff can it do better? ...... Exactly! "Bring back the wild west. Bring back the buggy, unforseen, wild, insulting, violent mess that was Ultima Online back in the early years. There were no cookie cutter classes. There was gambling, extortion, confidence tricksters, scammers, spammers, raiders, looters, exploiters, thieves, honorable and dishonorable fighters and gangs. There was somewhat of a safety zone in towns. There were no factions, everyone and everything was fair game. There was no one way to play the game, I'm sure people have so many interesting stories about how they or friends played. I had a friend who liked to spend his time stealing useless items. He was a weird looking fellow and a clepto. He also enjoyed running around town naked. He would yell at the NPCs and get angry at the guards when they caught him and killed him. That was his take of the game. "

This guy is so right. As much as people complained, THIS is what made Ultima Online so great in the early days. The fact there were no PvP zones, or anything like that. ANYONE and EVERYONE was fair game. THAT is what makes the game good, for PvPers and non PvPers alike. It was actually dangerous to walk out of a town, no matter what your level or what your gear, etc. No matter how big your guild was, or where you were fighting, you were ALWAYS at risk of being suddenly attacked, and that added an amazing element to the game. And if you died, you could put a bounty on your murderer's head. Some people (like me) got their bounties up to millions of gold pieces! I was legendary on my server (Great Lakes). Perhaps you heard of my PK character...named Xath. Eventually I sold my account when they patched things into oblivion. But honestly, as much as people hate PKs and all that, and think they want PvP zones, the game is SO much more fun when there is constant danger like real life, and there is a risk at losing EVERYTHING you have on you (including your equipment, house keys, etc.). That makes people think twice before donning all of their "best" gear...and makes the gear actually rotate around a bit. If a game like the original Ultima Online ever came back I'd sign up in a second, and I'm sure millions of others would, too.

Here's a BETTER idea. Give tax incentives to companies to change their work days. Seriously. A lot of companies (i.e. software developers, etc.) can easily change their company's workday schedule. And give them tax incentives to do so. That way X companies work 8-5, Y companies work 9-6, Z companies work 10-7, W companies work 11-8, and V companies work 12-9. Then have some go the opposite direction, and work 7-4, or even 6-3. That way ALL companies will be open 12pm-3pm, and plus the economy will be stimulated because people will actually be able to visit stores during the work week since all the stores' hours won't coincide with your working day! Brilliant! How in demand would the bank be that was open noon to 9pm daily? Or for the seniors, 6am-3pm? Think about it! Not to mention it would put WAAAY less strain on our roads, and our other systems during the day and even out the load.
