Mainly because, if I follow this correctly, merely saying you are going to harm or kill somebody constitutes a crime.
I have said this many times, and never really meant it considering I have yet to off anybody, but the truly disturbing implication here, especially under the threat of workplace shootings and whatnot, If I were to say it now, I could be prosecuted.
Has to be one of the most insane schemes I have ever heard of. I am pretty sure the Whalid company did not develop this solution, but yet they want to make money off of it. Whatever happened to a work ethic?
We keep hearing rumours that Microsoft will eventually be coming out with this or that for Linux, but on the flip side, Microsoft PR has some very negative things to say about Linux. What I am wondering, is there any truth to the rumours, and given the recent announcement that Microsoft will be developing a product with Transmeta, will we be seeing Microsoft put a kinder face towards Linux?
Sega sales had been lagging for years, and then they just basically died after the ill-fated Saturn. Dreamcast was a great platform from what I understand, but Sega jst didn't have the capitol or instant brand loyalty of that Nintendo and Sony command nowadays.
I hardly ever use search engines anymore. Most of the sites that I find are linked directly off of pages that are specializing in what I am looking for anyhow, and I find that the content is usually of a higher quality anyhow.
Merely a figure of speech. Yes, recessions do happen, but in a country such as India that still has a staggering poverty rate, if the effects of our recession start to affect them adversly, it affects them much more severly, as, unlike us, most of their population still lives in third world conditions. A recession happens here, and peoples standards of living go down.
There, for most people, the standard of living CANNOT go down, they just die.
It is Interesting to take a look at India and see just where they have been going recently.
They are the Tech Powerhouse of SouthEast Asia, and that is a lot considering all of the tech in SouthEast Asia. Their Economy is on the upswing. They may just be the next economic powerhouse.
Or their reliance on US and British goods will bring them down with us.
Is it any surprise that a large corporation uses your demographic info to target ads, make money, etc?
I do not agree with it, but it is so present in our (american) society, most people don't even care anymore.
But there is a way we can fight back.
Have as many people as possible use your grocery card, TiVO, pet club card, and whatnot. Give them such a random sampling of as many people as possible, give them fake info when you sign up for thier incentives. It may not do much, but tell your friends, have them tell thier friends.
Eventually they will be getting so much bad data, they may just quit.
Well, the legacy of Apple is being user friendly. Look at applesoft Basic. You could teach it to children and they could actually write viable programs. Then the Macintosh. One mouse button. Icons. A (somewhat) intuitive file structure. All this when PCs were still command line as a standard. Can they make *Nix user friendly? Perhaps. Will OSX be friendly out of the box? Probably not, at least not for a standard end user. I think they can do it, but it will still take a little while, maybe in two or three years they will have it truly userfriendly.
Granted, this is exciting and it is good to see these steps towards holographic storage, but seeing as how we have had all the vaporware promises for the past year and a half now, and still not even an alpha item, I am not going to hold my breath on this one.
Information that cannot be accessed without destroying said information would be quite secure.
You had just better make sure that you run your backups EVERY DAY.
Although with the increased instance of intrusions in the past few years as the armies of Skiddies swell, it alomost makes one wonder how often you would be running said backups.
Ah, So Basically, We have UCITA going down in VA, where AOL lives, next we have it going down in WA, where to of the biggest PC OEM's in the country live, what do you want to bet WA or CA are next???
Although I do notice both VA and TX are republican states also....
How does the ninth post, and the first that wasn't a troll, rudundant?

This sounds suspiciously like a police state.

A sad end to be sure
Wasn't there a story on this or something similar last week?

Either that or freinds will send me links.

Sorry, I should have specified economically.
Basically, from what I understand of how this all works, a good IP spoofer would defeat all of these survaillance measures.

Either way, only the future will tell.

Oh, I am a Troll now.
Who gave the RIAA Mod Access!?!?!
How long until the RIAA and the MPAA sue these carriers for allowing people to get online for free and download Movies and MP3's
The Nerve!!
Or wasn't this announced a few weeks ago?
The benchmarks are nice though

Any Idea if they intend to use this streamlined BSD for any type of handhelds or Internet appliances?
And if so, how would they make it work?
Here is hoping that something sane happens
It sounds too farfetched.
A major cabal of multi-million dollar corporations doing something that just plain makes sense?
I'll believe it when I see it.
Anybody who reads /. on a regular basis?
;-)
But thats just a guess

Also, how easy would it be to crack?
So what about all the people that do not have internet/network connections?
And yes, they do exist, as in to the tune of approximately 48% of the population in the US (last time I checked)
They just don't get to play a game they already paid for???

I thought Compaq was out of Canada and Dell was in Texas?
