I participated in this competition, and my team probably has a photo of Laurentian's robot somewhere. In the meantime, this link has a picture of the robot. It's difficult to find a larger image anywhere online.
GNU/Hurd has never been released in Stable. It is available in Unstable, but isn't complete enough for them to upgrade to Testing and Stable yet. GNU/kFreebsd however, is now an official Stable release with Squeeze (6.0).
Not that this isn't something to worry about, but ebooks aren't the *only* sources of literature. We do have books made out of paper...I've heard they don't have advertising in them.
Then again, ebooks are going to increase in popularity, and the last thing we want is a precedent of putting ads in them.
It would be nice if this could be developed into a way to simulate a keyboard on a touchscreen. All these multitouch devices are great to use, but it can be a pain to type on them, so a way to give tactile feedback on what is a key vs two keys, would help a lot.
In very simple terms, transistors work like a switch. When a voltage is applied to the base (one terminal), they allow current to flow between the collector and emitter (other two terminals). "On" current is when the transistor is allowing the current to flow. "Off" is...off. No current flows.
If I'm wrong, someone correct me. I'm helping someone on a project with some transistors, and need to know if I'm messing it up.
Don't give them any ideas. They might decide that, since all these squirrels live in trees on my yard, I have to declare them on my returns. I'm too young to be yelling "get off my lawn", let alone to a bunch of squirrels.
I think you mean Republican and Democrat. Neither party seems to fit the old distinctions of conservative and liberal. Instead, they have just been used by the media to polarize the country, while in the end they aim for the same things.
Remember, Firefox has a different UI based on the OS you are using it on or it was compiled for. The article only mentions changing the interface on Windows platforms, so I'd assume they only change it for the Windows build, and keep Mac and Linux on their current system.
On the other hand, some EWS workstations like the ones in Everitt here (also UIUC) comprise solely of Red Hat machines. Plus, there are a lot of directions for enabling printers, installing software, etc. Although it's not officially supported, it seems to be accepted.
This is a gene in your DNA currently, that became inactive ages ago. These scientists have found a way to re-activate the gene. (I'm trying to finish loading the summary to read more it, but it appears the site is just about slashdotted.)
I do the same thing, especially with 's' when it starts a word. It's my own style of writing, and in some places it's actually faster and smoother to slip a cursive letter in between print letters, than to pick up the pencil and write a print letter on its own.
You get more than just the OS. iLife is included with a new Mac (anything else?), and those programs cost a bit too. People always forget to mention that when comparing Macs and Windows system costs.
These comments about Opera bother me slightly...I'm running Ubuntu with 512mb ram (495 after video card grabs some), and Opera Unite doesn't even use half of it (plus, that's when it's been left on with multiple webpages open overnight when I fell asleep at the computer). Do the browsers scale their usage based on the amount of available ram on the system?

You really turned the tables on him.

A coffee table isn't usually considered a weapon...

Certainly there also has to be some damage done by banging heads on keyboards for years...

Posting to undo accidental moderation.
Or eat the same and let it burn excess energy...

I love eating lemons, you insensitive clod!
It's a bit late for that. Swine flew ages ago. Now, temperatures in Hell might be dropping a little.

And what is a lot of bittorrent traffic used for? (besides warez, because we know no one does that).

My girlfriend's laptop is pink you insensitive clod. And it was stolen. Oh wait...no girlfriend...Slashdot...Right...
Ahh, wonderful. They can use the methane during peak hours to generate additional electricity.

Sounds kind of like what Opera is trying to do with their new 'Unite' service. It's just it doesn't work yet (granted, still alpha/beta).
I'm worrying about what they've got against birds. This will wreak absolute havoc on African Swallows migrating with their coconuts.
