Look, despite what nutjobs want to think about how corporations are out to get them and all of that crap, there likely was a reason that particular ISP was banned. Last I checked ICQ was not making much money from their service. On the other side of the same coin, because they do not have unlimited funds (like Microsoft), perhaps a lot of spam or hack attempts were coming from that ISP in particular. I'm sure they've banned quite a few other countries' ISPs if that's the case. Maybe the ISP didn't do anything to stem the tide of the crap their users were putting out? If that were the case.. shit, I'd ban them too. Especially if I really had to manage my resources extremely carefully to keep service operating as normal for everyone else.

Seriously, you guys need to get out of this retarded "omg they're out to get us" mindset. There's reasons shit happens and I seriously doubt it's some kind of "oh we don't care, here have a ban" thing.

Just because it works fine for you doesn't mean it works fine for everyone else. An operating system can't be expected to perform and take the place of Windows if it can't support all hardware straight out of the box. Whether that is the operating system's fault or the market's fault doesn't matter - the bottom line is that these experiences shouldn't happen, period.

Hell, I had to wait 14 months for the Ubuntu installer to even run on my machine. Unacceptable. Mod me flamebait or troll or whatever, but this is a serious problem. It's not even necessarily the fault of the Linux programmers either. The way the market has been shaped by Microsoft has a lot to do with it as well. Bill Gates is a smart man.

You know, if you examine *anything* in the English language closely enough, you will find that all of it is basically an ill-defined hodgepodge of concepts. Anything when looked at too closely loses meaning, and you're just trying to find witches to hang I think. I don't see what that has to do with anything.

They couldn't come right out and say, "we won't be dicks, promise" for their motto now could they? They've done a good job with things so far, I think, given how most companies turn out when they get to be Google's size.

Besides, I don't exactly see Google trumpeting the damn thing. Maybe I'm missing something. It's just the slashdot crowd that keeps picking it up over and over again and repeating it like it's some kind of god-fearing mantra. Google, as best as I can tell, has it on two of their pages. How is that "trumpeting it loudly"..? Aren't you over-exaggerating? Again, maybe I missed something, but who really gives a crap?

You might know this and were just venting, but for those readers out there that don't know, I'll attempt to clarify.

"0-day" typically is used in the warez/cracking scene. 0-day releases are essentially programs or games or whatnot that are cracked or released for download the same day (or even before) they hit retail shelves. So you've got 0-day games, 0-day cracks, etc. - but in the context the summary uses the term it doesn't really seem like it means anything unless it coincides with a brand new release of IE8. But being a slashdot poster, I didn't even bother to read the summary all the way through, and I sure as hell don't care about IE or vista.
