Pfft, what, someone offering a "superior" idea didn't actually read up on said idea to begin with and instead opted to spout it out of their ass with total disregard to anything? Welcome to Slashdot dude - if anyone can piss on anything, they will.
Yeah, for those programmers out there who think switching to 64-bit code or multithreading their apps is hard (freakin wussies nowadays, I tell ya), wait until quantum hardware starts making the rounds!
Well, you see.. when posting somewhere like Slashdot that knows nothing about women or girls, anything pertaining to their habits or way of life is insightful and/or informative.
Look, despite what nutjobs want to think about how corporations are out to get them and all of that crap, there likely was a reason that particular ISP was banned. Last I checked ICQ was not making much money from their service. On the other side of the same coin, because they do not have unlimited funds (like Microsoft), perhaps a lot of spam or hack attempts were coming from that ISP in particular. I'm sure they've banned quite a few other countries' ISPs if that's the case. Maybe the ISP didn't do anything to stem the tide of the crap their users were putting out? If that were the case.. shit, I'd ban them too. Especially if I really had to manage my resources extremely carefully to keep service operating as normal for everyone else.
Seriously, you guys need to get out of this retarded "omg they're out to get us" mindset. There's reasons shit happens and I seriously doubt it's some kind of "oh we don't care, here have a ban" thing.
Queue the sound of thousands of tinfoil hats being put on everywhere. Also queue the sound of billions of keystrokes per second of wacko negative conspiracy theorists that believe this was simply a stunt, like 9/11 or the moon landings.
"Stay a while and -" "We don't have time for this idle chatter." "Aw, nobody ever listens.."
Cracked me the hell up. When I'm bored at work I'll start spouting off about Horadric cubes and things in that voice. Needless to say, I heart Deckard Cain:D
"What if you were aborted because you have a "defect"? That would have sucked huh?"
Give me a fucking break. I wouldn't have existed to formulate that opinion in the first place. How would that have sucked for me? I'd never have existed! I wouldn't know what I'm missing! And the way shit is going down on this planet today, I apparently wouldn't be missing much.
Just because it works fine for you doesn't mean it works fine for everyone else. An operating system can't be expected to perform and take the place of Windows if it can't support all hardware straight out of the box. Whether that is the operating system's fault or the market's fault doesn't matter - the bottom line is that these experiences shouldn't happen, period.
Hell, I had to wait 14 months for the Ubuntu installer to even run on my machine. Unacceptable. Mod me flamebait or troll or whatever, but this is a serious problem. It's not even necessarily the fault of the Linux programmers either. The way the market has been shaped by Microsoft has a lot to do with it as well. Bill Gates is a smart man.
Oh for fuck's sake. Linux is not killing anything. Microsoft is shooting themselves in their own damn foot and Linux just happens to be the next most visible PC OS.
So, if Windows suddenly becomes the minority in the consumer OS market, are we going to have people here trumpeting the "year of windows on the desktop!!!one!1"?
If they'd ever been in or around a car before there is much more to it than simply the visual aspect. Sounds, smells, and if it's a v8, the rumble you feel in your chest. There may still be common ground to detect the thought based on those parameters.
Thank you for doing the job you do. I've always had a ton of respect for the police and firefighters (and even hospital staff, as my mother was a nurse and I got to meet a great many of them as a kid), but the clarity of thought you guys have is always impressive to me.
They went from 2008 being the year of OSX on the desktop to 2013 being the year of OSX on everything! Aren't you apple guys happy?:D Confirmation from the future is always a crowd pleaser. We need someone to stand up like this for Linux!
You know, if you examine *anything* in the English language closely enough, you will find that all of it is basically an ill-defined hodgepodge of concepts. Anything when looked at too closely loses meaning, and you're just trying to find witches to hang I think. I don't see what that has to do with anything.
They couldn't come right out and say, "we won't be dicks, promise" for their motto now could they? They've done a good job with things so far, I think, given how most companies turn out when they get to be Google's size.
Besides, I don't exactly see Google trumpeting the damn thing. Maybe I'm missing something. It's just the slashdot crowd that keeps picking it up over and over again and repeating it like it's some kind of god-fearing mantra. Google, as best as I can tell, has it on two of their pages. How is that "trumpeting it loudly"..? Aren't you over-exaggerating? Again, maybe I missed something, but who really gives a crap?
You might know this and were just venting, but for those readers out there that don't know, I'll attempt to clarify.
"0-day" typically is used in the warez/cracking scene. 0-day releases are essentially programs or games or whatnot that are cracked or released for download the same day (or even before) they hit retail shelves. So you've got 0-day games, 0-day cracks, etc. - but in the context the summary uses the term it doesn't really seem like it means anything unless it coincides with a brand new release of IE8. But being a slashdot poster, I didn't even bother to read the summary all the way through, and I sure as hell don't care about IE or vista.
Sure, they're not fast machines but if you can get some form of Linux on those things and install BOINC, you're in business. I'd be running Seti@home on all of them just to piss off all the self-righteous, hypocritical folding@home think-of-the-children wankers.
Pfft, what, someone offering a "superior" idea didn't actually read up on said idea to begin with and instead opted to spout it out of their ass with total disregard to anything? Welcome to Slashdot dude - if anyone can piss on anything, they will.
You move to Nevada and join a legal brothel? Then.. profit?
See what happens when you try to install Vista??

You've got some underlying hardware issues, I think. The browser is not that unstable due to its own coding.

Yes, and humans never really landed on the moon, either. Conspiracy theories are tiresome and stupid.

I agree with this sentiment 100%. It is ridiculous how much people feel the need to control and subjugate others.
What, you can't be arsed to even read the summary now?

Man, I really screwed myself out of these low userID wars. :(
If only I'd have known back then!
See, guys? I TOLD you it'd be the year of OSX on the desktop!!

Or if we want to extend the analog to Supreme Commander, fat people are merely mass deposits ripe for harvesting!
:(
Being a hefty guy myself, this is worrisome. I always did hate robots.
