    a) don't know better

    b) have this code running since forever and don't know better.

    And then they throw us this shit for us to optimize for our supercomputers, because, guess what? They don't know better!

    You have no idea how fortran is despised in the HPC world, but we have to deal with it because some people (not a single one with a CS background) keeps using it.

    So far, the only place with ridiculous software patents that I'm aware of are US and Japan, with US pushing both EU and, individually, every EU country, into establishing patent laws, as US politicians don't care to be puppets of lobbies and corporations. And unfortunately, EU politicians are as stupid as politicians everywhere.

    What baffles me is how small the businesses like the mafiaa are, in comparison to, say, the software industry. But their tentacles seem much longer...

    The obvious solution is to release games at the 'used' price point, then everyone will consider it worth it from the start..

    No, the solution is make a game that you want to play more than once until you get to the end. Replay value is the solution!

    XBOX CASE:
    I bought that mirror's edge game, new, some years ago blahblah open world yeah parkour blablabla, highly rated etc. Damn frustrating game, from the start. I tried playing it again last week. The game is FRUSTRATING. I would NEVER play that crap again.

    Now think of this latest assassin's creed game. There was some time since I last played it, and when I turned on the console, I realized there is some new levels. Besides, the game is so good that I want to play it over and over.

    I don't think they would replace arm with an x86 design, if it's that what you mean.

    But there's nothing impeding intel using their chip manufacturing plants to actually produce whatever apple throws at them, as arm designs, the same way they already use others..

    here in germany I just go to a supermarket, buy a pre-paid credit card and put some credit on it, right on the moment to pay for it. If I want, I can reuse it, or else, I just throw it away.

    But for such a menace to exist, they need people in there first. So, military occupation needs civil occupation.

    They could offer moon mansions for the people in Detroit. It's not like their place is getting any better soon... And then forge some terrorist attack on the moon, and finally send the soldiers!

    Actually I was talking about the mastering process, not simple conversion. They had sound engineers "cleaning" the sound for a long time. That ruined some albuns

    CDs were said to lose quality as well. Especially from the classics recorded in analog, and digital mastering to make the sound clear. If you want the real bang, you could stick to Vinyl.

    They will release the playstation 4. That will just speed them up into a half-baked solution, as they were expecting the ps3 to last a little longer.

    I would hire this people who broke the ps3's security to help me make the new version if I were them. Hotz even talked about it.

    As previously mentioned, the fact that developers would have to support older os versions (and sdks) might be a burden that not everyone wants or can afford to.
