Conversations like this piss me off. My daughter and her husband put their lives on the line every day as officers in the San Diego police.
They would MUCH prefer that crimes didn't occur and at the worst of times will use the very minimum force required to take the bad people
into custody. I'm sorry - an old saying goes "if you can't do the time don't do the crime!" Makes sense to me - you won't get tasered or shot
if you abide by the law. It's really that simple.
This really infuriates me. I have about 20 out of print books that would have netted me some nice cash but now a stupid judge says NO. WHY????
It would mean my books would be archived and I like that idea. They're never going to make more money in any event. And now I lose about $ 1200!!!!!!
This brought me back to one immutable fact. I get sensory input through my eyes, ears and other organs. It all goes into my brain. My total universe is, in absolute fact, contained between my ears in a meat brain. Going with that, I have absolutely no knowledge of what things look like to you nor do you have knowledge of what my universe looks like. Think about it. You and I agree that a particular color has the name green but you and I may actually see totally different things that we call green. We all agree that a physical universe exists and that we live in it but it's all in your brain. Question is - would the universe still exist if your brain died. We can answer yes but by god I dare you to prove it!!!!
Folks - I spent a lot of my youth with the Weapons Effects Test group. We detonated weapons in the Pacific and at the Nevada Proving grounds. Bing/Google Upshot Knothole and Buster Jangle to see recently released footage of these tests. Then consider that the Japanese event doesn't even come close to releasing the radioactive material these tests released into the atmosphere. Like I say - this is a total non-event...
I thought Linix (as in RedHat etc) was free software. If it's free what did they use to pay the 4.2 million????? You see, as a developer of software I hate this notion that open source means free. SOMEONE pays at some point......
Wow. We use Cox Business Internet and for some reason I can't recall I thought there were no caps.
Just goes to show - looks to me like the very best service available already has a 250 GB per month cap!
So once again - this is really no news LOL.
You'd almost think that NONE of the comments here have grocked the problem. It's about the loss of generating capacity from damaged power stations reactors!
As a developer running dual monitors on a Windows 7 x64 box I keep a number of apps running and minmized. It's easy to switch between apps using the task bar but I would not use any app that forces me to use a maximized view. I'm sure there are those who will do this but forcing choices like this on the user is a bad idea in my view. If it was an option it might be a better idea. Personally I love IE9.
The poster has a severe case of rectal caranial inversion. And with Microsoft bashers, flamers, trolls and all the others making mostly useless comments I found it necessary to write a blog here. http://geekswithblogs.net/GGBlogger/Default.aspx Craig Mundie is simply pointing out potential futures for end user interfaces. There is NO WAY this is going to be the LOOK of Windows 8. It will evolve over time as computing hardware gets more powerful and less expensive but folks I think we're stuck with the mouse, keyboard and non-touch displays for another 10 years.
We've fallen to a second rate nation with the cessation of this program. I'm 83 so probably won't be around to see how far we fall. What I hate most is this is the legacy I'm leaving my granddaughters and it sucks!!!
We had a PayPal account some years ago. At that time the easiest way to get free software was to order using PayPal and then dispute the payment. PayPal would immediately take the money out of our bank account until the dispute was resolved. It always went in favor of the buyer so we lost thousands of dollars. It got so bad that PayPal zeroed our bank account. They then closed our account permanently. Worse, I had family members unrelated to our business who's acconts were also closed because they were relatives. So yes - PayPal can and does take money out of your linked account without asking unless they've changed their policy.
I hear many different definitions of net neutrality but it seems to come down to the internet should be free. That's all well and good but I also realize that it just ain't the way it works. I pay Cox a significant amount of money for internet access. Everyone who runs a connection to my house is looking for money. I believe Cox also charges if you go over a certain useage level. Soi we don't have net neutrality now and never have had. So will someone please tell me what the phrase really means?
First I do not have any use for modern religions. It's my view that no one anywhere has any better idea of where we came from or where we're going than I do. That being said I have no way of knowing whether there are powers at work beyond my comprehension (i.e. god, aliens or whatever) so I leave that open. Further, I have a problem with evolution... Pandas only in China? Kangaroos only in Australia? And how about the duck bill? Why are they not found in the rest of the world? I'm far more inclined to think we're an alien zoo. Makes the best sense to me!
An elephant backed a keeper against his stall this morning crushing her to death. I think the man is messing with a million ton elephant and doesn't want to be a chair.
At 83 with years of computer experience I can't understand for the life of me why people dislike Microsoft so much. When I was growing up the American dream was to build a business and make it grow like crazy. Bill Gates did exactly that. So to me he represents the culmination of an American dream. That said the main reason Microsoft gets pummeled with exploits is that they are a huge target. Virus writers want to make a name for themselves so they go after the biggest targets.
My answer is simple - I use Windows Security Essentials - a free virus tool from MS and I haven't had a virus since I started using it. Many of the commercial anti-virus folks aren't real happy but frankly I don't care. And yes - I do run other tools occassionally to ensure that all is well. You say you don't like Microsoft? I say "fine - no problem - you use whatever floats your boat but stop taking pot shots at MS." You don't need to use it and you don't need to like it. I don't care. I don't take shots at any "...ix" versions. You're welcome to use them or whatever you want. I just happen to love all things Microsoft and get a lot of work done using them. Take pot shots at me if you like - my name is Bud Aaron and you will find me with a simple name search.
Lordy - get it right. The PC era isn't ENDING. It's just that other devices will ship more units than PCs.
That's 446 million PCs and 468 million phones. That's hardly the end. Let headlines reflect the TRUE story please.
So let me get this right - you'd prefer to be shot?????

Man I really needed to know how "rugged" the iPhone is! I'm so excited I could cry!

That's dead simple - supporting people against another genocide bound despot willing to kill his own people to retain his money and power.

I truly wish that posters here would be more truthful and less dramatic with headlines. The leader on this one is such bullshit!!!!!!!!!!
At current gas prices that might make the fuel cost more than the car!!!

IE still has no real competion in my view - so what's your point.

Yup - My head hurts

Who writes these idiot gloom and doom headlines. I truly hate misleading BS like this!!!!
That's one more reason I love Microsoft... They provide me with FREE antivirus software from a trusted source!
