Seems to this old dude like we have too many languages already. Why another language? I understand the reason for multiple languages like English, French and Spanish for example but why in the hell do we need to keep inventing new programming languages? Just looks to me like one more severe case of rectal caranial inversion.
But the message is crystal clear. You can't legally COPY someones work and especially you can't share it.
I'm a writer and I want to get paid for copies of what I write. NO ONE has a right to take my work and
share it with others or copy it without paying. I have every right to expect that what I write IS MINE
TO SELL or give away - but it's MINE.
It's even more insidious to me. Any legal resident ot the USA MUST speak, read and write English. I know - both my wife and daughter-in-law are naturalized citizens and HAD to learn English. So why should the ballots be printed in Spanish???
As a past holder of TSBI and AEC Q clearances I can tell you that the idiot who wrote these stories hasn't a clue what he's talking about. Comp C burns but doesn't explode unless a detonater is used. I won't go into whether or not or when the "nuclear core" is inserted but I can tell you that without a carefully detonated implosion nothing would ever happen. The China Syndrome is science fiction so this is all fear mongering for the effect. All bull.... and I DO know what I'm talking about.
At 83 I get SO exasperated... no living person - including the POPE - has ever seen god or heaven or anything associated with the "after life." Why in the world should I believe there are people out there who know more about "god" or what happens after death than I do? Oddly I don't fear death which I think is the very reason that I an assess this in somewhat logical terms. I'm either going to wake up in some new reality or I'm simply going to cease to exist. But I don't KNOW which it will be and neither does any other living person.
I spent several years first testing nuclear weapons and later as a quality control inspector. In fact the information on some of the test shots I worked on has recently been declassified. Do a search for Operation Upshot Knothole or Operation Buster Jangle. We instrumented these shots (using pressure gauges, displacement tests and strain gauges among others). This is just by way of letting you know that I DO have some direct experience with the weapons involved. As close as I was to all of this rumors DO circulate and I heard a BUNCH of them but NO ONE ever implied or suggested that we were being watched by aliens! That includes Air Force, Navy, Army and Marine forces involved in various things. Hell I even got foolish (with a buddy of mine) and drove up to Groom Lake to get a better view of one test. Now Groom Lake is connected with many stories of an Area 51 but I never saw anything even suggesting a major installation there. Oh our testing operations operated out of Nellis Airforce base.
On the flip side of this coin I was in the US Navy going to Electronics school in San Francisco in 1945. Part of my boot camp training involved heavy training in aircraft identification so I had a fair knowledge of all man made flying objects in the world if you like. One evening at twilight I went down from our apartment to empty the trash. I looked in the direction of Moffett Field and saw (several miles away) something that looked like it might be a blimp with a row of lights down its long axis. I finished emptying the trash and looked up just in time to see 3 objects appear to detach themselves and start flying toward me. By this time I was truly puzzled because what I thought I was seeing made no sense.
So I watched these 3 objects continue coming toward me quite slowly. As they got close enough to make out they turned out to be disk shaped but the angle was such that I could not make out anything on top of them. They were flying at what could best be described as "hovering" speed. The bottoms were convex and looked for all the world like a banked glowing coal fire. I had time to call my wife and ask her to come down. When she arrived they were directly overhead and I said "What are those?" She answered in an amazed tone of voice, "My god - flying saucers!" I would guess that they were between one and two thousand feet altitude and about 100 feet in diameter but I have no certainty of either the distance or the size. Now I had never before seen nor have I seen since anything that looked remotely like these craft. To this day I have NO idea what they were, where they came from or where they went. What I DO know is they had no resemblance to any flying craft I had seen during my aircraft recognition classes and I have never seen anything that resmbled them since. So although I know WHAT I saw - I try not to speculate on who might have been flying them but I frankly don't believe that anyone with that kind of technology would have a worry in the world about us because we will never leave this planet in the next hundred or more years in any manner to be a threat to others in the universe.
Damn - without media coverage no one in the world would know! I think personally that the MEDIA is the organization putting our troops in danger. If the media left it alone no one would know!!!
Do you think! Wouldn't it be sensational if the world media simply ignored them. If it WASN'T for the media coverage who would know?
In my view it's their option to burn anything they like but the MEDIA needs to sensationalize it!
Wow – I’m 83 and never finished high school! That said by military standards (formal testing) I have the equivalent of a PhD in Electronic Engineering. I worked for a year (while still a Navy enlisted man) as one of 8 service people doing engineering work for Sandia’s Weapons Effects Test Group. I also qualify for Mensa but never applied.
My view of formal education is that it’s way overrated. Employers use it (sadly) as a measure for your qualifications for a job. I worked for a year at Gamco Industries designing and building a computer for educational purposes. The man in charge was an Engineering PhD Professor. With no intent to fault him it was me who did the engineering and design – he just took the credit.
One of my repeated questions is – precisely WHO in the educational system is going to teach the next generations of technical people required to maintain our highly technical infrastructure with cell phone towers as one of many examples. I’m convinced there are no Universities in existence now or in the foreseeable future with that capability in either curricula or teachers. So education will be either corporate internal or on line I suspect. I think Bill Gates is absolutely correct. We are so far behind the curve in University educational capabilities that we will probably never catch up. My real fear is that India and China may well be where the people we need are educated.
I played World of Warcraft from 2004 until early this year. I'm 83 so probably not your typical game player but I got so insanely bored that I deleted all my characters and cancelled my subscription. I've thought about restarting but when I take time to consider I realize I'm just going to get bored again. It's reached the point that I don't play ANY games but I will buy Diablo 3 when it's released.
When I was a kid I had a magic act. Among my (admittedly mostly mechanical effects) was something called "Carson's Zombie Ball."
This ball (about the size of a regulation softball but metallic) sat on a pedestal. By draping a magician's silk over it I could
make it float around the room as if by magic. It really astonished people and got a lot of applause.
I can tell you - no magic was involved but it sure looked astounding to the folks who didn't know how it worked. So - as I said - this keyboard
for which there doesn't seem to be a credible demo for (aside from videos and controlled demos) seems creepily like my Carson's zombie ball.
Seems like someone has it remotely wired - probably looking for funding. I'll believe it when I can personally try it in the absense of the owners.
It's odd to me that all the Apple fans weigh in to dis Microsoft but you seldom see
a Windows lover like me make comments. Personally I think the iPhone and iPad are for
kids with too much money and nothing to do. I'll pose a challenge. I'm a software
developer, game player and movie watcher. Can I develop software using the iPad as
a platform? Nope - not easily. Can I play World of Warcraft on an iPad? Nope - not
really. Can I watch a high quality movie on an iPad? I suspect not really. So what's
left? Telephone calls and texting. I don't do texting and my Windows MotoQ phone takes
care of my phone calls. So please someone tell me what I need an iPhone or iPad for?
Headlines like that truly annoy me. The implication is that AT&T is going to allow eavesdropping
when in fact they are just not going to stop a talk! I don't like AT&T but that doesn't mean I
like to see them or anyone else incorrectly maligned!
I'm still LMAO - that's a GREAT point.

I once charged over $ 100 an hour. I'm now lucky if I get a job for $10 an hour. Go figure!

The headline for this article is so misleading. The US doesn't "object" - NIST and the world simply say it needs to be redefined and I agree.
It's even more insidious to me. Any legal resident ot the USA MUST speak, read and write English. I know - both my wife and daughter-in-law are naturalized citizens and HAD to learn English. So why should the ballots be printed in Spanish???
Yup - it's incredibly full of misinformation and mostly stupidity.
Absolutely correct!!!!

So can someone explain why this is news? Sounds more like it reflects the number of computers in the country!

Oh I love that tag line - SO true "rule number 1 of slashdot: ANY thread can be twisted into a bash of microsoft. no exceptions."
The real losers are the taxpayers who provide funds for the school.

Good old Google! They would NEVER consider biasing things in their favor! They just love us all so much - and we need them so badly - NOT!
ROTFLMAO - they already do and have for a long time. The worlds oldest profession WILL find a way even though they get flagged.
